He shimmied closely to the Palace wall, he only saw two guards, and neither looked very aware of his presence. He removed one of his throwing axes, and tossed it with amazing accuracy. It buried itself in one guard’s face, and he quickly tossed another, striking the fleeing gang member in the back. Those axes weren’t cheap, and he quickly retrieved them, and poked the men with his knife to make sure they were dead. He then flicked the note through the gate, and took several steps back. He used his flint to light the rag hanging out of his bottle of vodka, then once it was a healthy flame, he tossed it several feet from the gate.

His eyes glimmered, as the glass shattered it almost instantly erupted into an energetic and quick spreading patch of fire, which soon covered a ten by ten area. He giggled and then made a dash for safety. The fire generated interest very soon, and the note was discovered shortly there after. Truand opened the gate, and lit a cigarette on the now dying fire in the square. He peaked around and noticed the dead men. One of them he knew by name. “Well this is all just going to hell.” he shrugged and walked back inside the courtyard. The undead began to stir and search the city for any signs of rebells or the such that may have somehow avoided capture in the initial city sweep.

Truand was informed that Elder had taken the King’s own bedroom for his temporary office. He jogged through the Palace, eager to deliver the challenge. Most of the cultists were asleep by now, he wasn’t sure when Elder tended to drift off to bed though. Considering he had been working with the man for something like six years now, he knew very little about him other than the well accepted belief he wasn’t a human.

“Boss man, got some news for you!” he announced loudly as he swung open the large, well decorated door “Oh look, you ain’t sitting in the dark for onc- oh God...” he nervously smirked, and slowly backed out of the room, carefully shutting the door behind him. There was a few lit candles, but he realized they were intended to be romantic, not for lighting purposes. Everything was getting more complicated now that he had a mistress. A few seconds passed, and Elder creaked the door open. He could make out his outline, but he was most concealed by shadows. *What is it?”

“Some firebomb went off outside the gate, found this letter when checkin’ it out. Few of our guys were killed.” he handed Elder the note, who seemed to be unphased by what he had told him. He nodded to Truand dismissively, and closed the door.

“Read this to me.” he said, handing Roxanne the note. He began eating grapes on the other side of the room. She shrugged and read it to him quickly.

“Are you serious?” he began laughing softly He poured himself another glass of wine “I’m more than certain I could show those barbarians who is the boss. But that would be foolish; I’ll leave it up to Him.”

“Yeah, letting your big scary god kill them for you sounds like the best plan.” she giggled. He sighed, of course favors like this required a sacrifice, but who? A sacrifice of one of his own men would probably mean more, but he did*’t want to do that. He’d just select a few prisoners, quantity over quality. He began to dress himself.

“Aww, can’t whatever you’re about to do wait?” she whined.

“No.* was his simple and blunt reply. He woke the swrodsman Kopf and ordered him to accompany him to the courtyard. After hearing his orders, Kopf slipped on a facemask. He was a heavy set man, with long blonde hair. His age was some where in his early thirties.

Elder ordered Kopf to select five prisoners. Some fighting and complaining emerged as Kopf lead them to the center of the courtyard, but the zombified guards were more than willing to help him restrain them. The commotion woke up several hostages, Azura included. As the unfortunate man sat on his knees with only the dim glow of torches to allow her to see what was happening. Elder began speaking in a foreign language. She jabbed Johnny in the ribs, the poor boy was destined not to sleep that night.

“What’re they doing?” she whispered. His heart sank like a stone, and several beads of sweat formed on his forehead.

“He’s being executed.” Johnny replied in a low voice, she gasped, was he joking? Kopf unsheathed his long thin sword, and swung it fiercely. In one swift chop, the man’s head rolled to the ground, screaming and horrified gasps came from the onlookers. A young woman was up next. With every head removed, the wind seemed to grow stronger, and stronger. And on the fifth decapitation, the powerful gusts abruptly stopped. The corpses were devoured on the spot by the undead. The gnawing and unsettling sound of sharp broken teeth tearing into soft flesh was enough to drive a person mad.

Kopf laughed as he used one of the victim’s shirts to clean the blood from his sword, and then returned to his sleeping quarters. Most found it hard to sleep that night.

“I don’t like waiting like this.” Lowe sighed.

“Me either buddy. I wish I coulda took’er, but it jus* seemed to risky.” Forrest patted him on the back.

Guards carefully scanned the foggy horizon all night long as they waited anxiously for a viciouis and angry horde of dead and drug fueled junkies to attempt storming their beloved homeland. They lacked the proper equipment to besiege Varrock, but they could certainly hold the line for a few days if need be.

Warriors inspected their weapons and carefully assured their bowstrings were well tightened, their spears sharpened, and their axe handles weren’t loose. They already knew the weapons were in fine condition, but it was a good way to help pass the time as they waited for the battle to begin.

Scouts prowled about but saw no signs of any mobilizing soldiers.

“Chief Eckhard,” a small fast looking man said as he kneeled briefly “I spotted not one cowardly cultist. I believe they are merely intimidated by the issued challenge.”

“Ha!” Moric laughed “If that’s the case, they may not have as many numbers as we thought.”

“And that means we could just try storming the city. I don’t like that idea.” Anastasia added.

“Hey, what the hell is happening?” Aiden shouted, several soldiers sprinted to the walls and climbed up ladders which lead to a small ramp across the entire wall. Peeking over, they were shocked by the bizzare and terrifying sight; There was hundreds of corpses floating down the river, some almost entirely fleshless. It was just daylight, though the thick overhanging clouds kept things dark and dreary regardless. The men starred on in confusion, Aiden and Caden sensed something wasn’t right. Lowe twirled an arrow in his fingers and waited. Every single corpse suddenly jolted back to life with a violent thrust of the chest, and began their siege on the village.

Some of the broken bodies crawled, others limped, some angrily charged forward quicker than most humans. Chieftain Eckhard did*’t believe what he was seeing, he had to know this was real. He tossed his spear with fantastic strength and accuracy, and it struck a quick moving charger in the forehead. He took a deep breath, this was very real. “Fetch me a bow and a quiver of arrows!” he hollered out “Zorn!”

“Yes father?” his skilled warrior prince of a son began tossing large rocks at the ones too close for comfort. Lowe and Anastasia stood side by side and skillfully fired off their arrows with amazing skill and accuracy. They noticed shots to the head seemed to kill the undead instantly, but attacks to the chest and stomach area weren’t as effective; it seemed to take several minutes for them to die from such attacks. Oddly enough, some seemed to die, only to stand again. Regardless of these seemingly impossible traits, the unorganized, unarmored, unarmed legion was surely to be massacred, yet so tenacious and numerous were they, it was hard for the defenders to keep up with the onslaught.

They reached the wall, where more bombardment from heavy objects, and long reaching weapons began to thin their numbers drastically.

“Wait a goddamn minute.” Aiden said to his brother.

“What?”

“Ain’t they s’posed to be rescuing those prisoners and become heroes and crap?” Caden replied with a nod, as he chucked a thirty pound rock at a skeleton, which let out a satisfying “Crunch” the legion suddenly converged on the main gate, and began shoving and pushing against it. Several large big men rushed to push back, and large stakes were propped against it to prevent it from being forced open by the hundreds of grey, rotting hands.

“Aren’t you supposed to be rescuing the prisoners?” Caden mentioned to Lowe.

“This horde just floated down stream from somewhere,” he let off another arrow “that means there’s still a city full of cultists and undead.”

“Well damn.” he sighed, and resumed fighting.

“I wonder what it’ll take to convince them to launch an all out assault with everything they got.” Moric pondered aloud as he tossed rocks and empty bottles. He picked up a half full whiskey bottle and started to throw it, but someone removed it from his hand as he reared back. Anastasia quickly plugged the bottle with a rage and lit on fire with her amulet, before tossing it. The mini horde at the gate was consumed by fire in a matter of minutes, and after that large chunk of invaders was turned to ash, there was only stragglers left to deal with. Moric looked confused for a minute.

“How did that even work?” he finally asked.

“Is simple trick, I don’t feel like explaining detail, but all you do is put flammable liquid in breakable container, add fuse.” Moric worked out the physics of how it worked himself, and remembered the trick for future use, since it looked like a very simple and very effective weapon.

“Now what?” Zorn asked his father.

“Don’t let your guard down! Do not leave your posts!” he hollered out over the talking and discussion, he then pointed to Anastasia, Lowe, and Forrest, and motioned for them to follow him. Entering the longhall, they noticed Zorn and Liebe, and several hand picked barbarian warriors sitting at the table. Some were female, but it was a challenge to tell who, as all of them were abnormally muscular looking.

“Meet some of our best warriors!” Zorn said loudly, waving his hand at them. They returned the gesture with a loud roar.

“They are the fastest, most cunning, agile, and some of the strongest of my clan!” Eckhard declared loudly; there was about twenty of them in total “They are the best of the best, and I think they are just what you need for the rescue mission.” Anastasia realized something slightly amiss, what was his motivation for helping the city folk escape? She began to wonder. Lowe on the other hand, was more concerned about trying to get these twenty, rowdy looking men and 'women’ to act stealthily. Forrest simply wondering how long it’d be before something exciting happened.

“So listen, we don’t need you blindly running in there without a plan, so let’s sit down and figure out how things are going to go down.” Eckhard motioned for everyone to huddle around his, now updated map of Varrock.

Meanwhile in Varrock Palace...

It was about Eleven 'O Clock, and with no pressing matters to attend to, Elder was just crawling out of bed. He fixed himself a meal of bread and fruit, and waited patiently for time to pass. He did various forms of exercise and chatted with his men and listened to several status reports, though the one he cared most about had yet to arrive. Growing increasingly bored, he pondered reading a book, and then merely laughed at himself. Quickly running out of things to do, he thought why not explore Varrock, leap roof top from roof top... have some fun.

He walked outside with a thin smile, prisoners cowered in fear as they saw the wicked cult leader stroll by, some of the braver ones tossed rude names at him. He began laughing loudly, “I doubt any of you have the courage to say that to me, face to face...” he paused “How about this, is anyone here courageous enough to fight me? I will gladly accept any duels.” a little brawl would be fun right about now. The crowd almost instantly fell silent. He began walking again, nothing could be heard but the sound of his boots. Johnny bit his bottom lip, and then decided now was his only chance.

“H-hey! ...I challenge you to a duel!” his young voice echoed, he tried hard to sound stern and mighty. Elder turned on his heel, wearing a grin.

“Untie him.” he ordered to a zombie in full platemail. Several gang members took interest in watching the fight, among them were Dief and Truand. The boy was cut loose, Azura watched in shock and disbelief.

“What are your rules boy? You are issuing the challenge.” he thought hard for a few moments.

“Bare-fist fighting, a-and if I win, I want freedom for all of us.” his opponent merely snickered at the noble request.

“Alright boy, I accept. Though If I win, you’ll have to kiss my boots.” his underlings laughed in the background. Johnny had fought once or twice with his fists before, but he couldn’t honestly be called an experienced boxer. Elder simply stood there, arms to his sides

“Are we fighting?” Johnny asked, obviously nervous.

“Yes boy.” his arrogant sounding opposition replied. More laughter from his underlings echoed. Johnny decided he had nothing to loose if he was just going to stand there, he swung as hard as he could towards his enemy’s jaw. In an impossibly quick movement, his enemy stepped around him, and shoved him from behind. He smashed into the pavement... he was obviously outclassed. He leapt back up, and ignored the raging laughter. He starred past Elder and noticed the horrified, yet beautiful face of Azura. He suddenly felt bad she was watching this.

He moved in more slowly, and tossed a less powerful punch, Elder caught his fist, and slapped him across the face. He tossed another punch with his free hand, but his impossibly quick enemy caught it as well, he pushed him backwards and released him.

“Stop toying with me!” Johnny shouted in frustration. Elder shrugged, and before he could react, managed to kick him in the stomach, he gasped and dropped to one knee, he kicked him in the chest into the cobblestone.

“How’s that?” he snidely replied. John leapt off the ground and tossed another, rage fueled punch, this time it glanced past his enemy’s face as he narrowly avoided it. He began swinging his fists as quickly as he could manage, and each time he felt the fabric of his foes’ jacket, he felt more and more confident, until finally Elder leaped to his side, and tripped him. A mixture of rage and adrenaline fueled Johnny as he angrily stood up one more time, brushing his shirt off. A single beam of sunlight penetrated the thick clouds, this was it. In a quicker movement than Elder had expected, he shoved him into the beam of sunlight. Dief and Truand gasped and leaned forward.

A little confused, Elder did*’t make his move instantly, he stood still and tried to figure out how that happened. Johnny tossed another punch, and Elder caught it with just as little effort as always, but this time it was a mere distraction, Johnny’s other hand reached around and grasped tightly the back of his hood, and yanked it down. The single beam of sunlight bathed Elder’s unprotected head, yet had no effect. Johnny starred into the face of pure terror and nightmares, for his hated enemy was no vampire. Truand’s cigarette dropped from his mouth as he starred on in shock, gasps came from every direction, and those who dared continue looking, looked on wide eyed.

Elder had no eyes, he was entirely blind. His face twisted from a thin smile, to very simple, primal, rage. He formed a fist for the first time in the fight, and smashed his young, absolutely stunned enemy across the face. Johnny couldn’t even manage to form a thought to fight back as he looked on in complete confusion, and disbelief. Elder punched him repeatedly in his fit of anger, and then tossed him with a thud into the ground.

“I do not want to play with you, anymore..” Elder placed his boot on Johnny’s throat, and began applying pressure; he did*’t want to crush his spine somehow, he wanted him to suffocate. Johnny snapped back to his senses, and used both his hands to try and save himself from such a miserable death, but it was useless, he had chosen the wrong time to try and be a hero. He still did*’t give up, he fought desperately, but it was simply futile. His senses began to fade on him as he slipped into unconsciousness. His eyes saw something odd, a pair of high heels, and he vaguely heard some shouting, and suddenly the boot was removed. Roxanne had shoved her lover away, and then crouched to the ground to check on the injured man.

“Are you okay?” she shook him, and checked his pulse; he was still alive. He gasped, and coughed up some blood.

“I’m a little sore...” he joked.

“You dumb ass!” she shouted, she was both angry at him for his foolish actions, and terrified for his health.

“How do you know him?” Elder asked as he stood above the two.

“He’s my brother...” she sighed and wiped some blood from his busted lip.

“Your brother?” he took a few steps away, and put his hood back on he took a few steps toward the Palace.
