“They’re hiding.” his weird voice seemed slightly angry.

“Who is?”

“The extremists, they hide information.”

“You don’t handle vodka well.” she left her bottle upside down in his bowl, and went to get another for herself.

Several hours later...

“What happened here...?” Ko stood baffled at the doorway, the Overlord was laying on the ground with his bowl across the room, Anastasia was asleep on the couch with several books and empty bottles of vodka were scattered throughout the apartment. Filling the Overlord’s bowl with fresh water and sitting him back in it, he then removed a blanket from the supply closet and covered Anastasia the best he could, before retreating to the bedroom. “Two alcoholics, just what I need.”

The following week Anastasia’s curiosity and desire to learn more about the foreign island and Karamthulhu creatures had disintegrated, she had a new drinking partner who had a liver of steel just as she did. He spoke simply and seemed to have just the right answer at all times, and because of all these facts... Pikkupstix’s windows went un-shattered. He was also helpful for other things, b ut it was the previously mentioned ones that she cared most about. Things seemed to be going well.

“Azura, you look terrible. Want a shot?” Anastasia said to her young friend as she stumbled into her apartment, the others would be there shortly but she had arrived slightly early.

“I’ve been having nightmares.” Sitting her down at the living room table, she slid a shot of vodka to her and listened closely, the Overlord hopped into Anastasia’s lap.

“About what?”

“These damn terrible things... they are sometimes humans and sometimes not. I killed them in my dream once, but they weren’t dead for long, and it all started over again...”

“You should speak with an expert on these kinds of things.” Azura sighed and sipped from the shot-glass. Aiden and Caden entered the apartment, they both looked thinner and healthier, but were still massive and not nearly looking “In shape” look their rival Forrest possessed.

*Look at us.” Aiden demanded with his powerful voice.

“We’re just beautiful.” Caden insisted.

“We also brought dinner, since you’re cheap about the food you buy.”

“Food is just fuel.” she dismissed the two and examined Azura closely. Dark circles under her eyes, an exhausted look, no make up. She did**t like this.

“Whoa, Azura... you depressed?* Caden sat down beside her and waited for a response. He wouldn’t admit it, but he was protective over her, but he was always protective over his more ‘helpless’ friends throughout life. He was big strong and could take a hit, he felt like it was his duty to stand up for people who he liked that weren’t as capable. Everyone else could go to hell. Aiden took the meal they prepared to the kitchen and began to warm it up. It was a typical ‘expensive’ dinner; fresh vegetables, big piece of beef seasoned in everything you could think of, and with some shrimp and other exotic foods mixed in.

Forrest made his way in, he looked as healthy and youthful as always. He was set in stone. He’d keep up his appearance for another fifty years his friends bet, and then finally let himself go, and maybe think about dying a few decades later. “Howdy folks, you alright Azura?”

“I’m fine.. thanks for asking.” he shrugged and went to see what smelled good. Ko emerged from the bedroom in a loose fitting shirt and pants, he too went to check on the food. Caden gripped her tiny jaw with his massive paw and examined her face closely.

“You sick or something?”

“No...I can** sleep.*

*Sleep ain’t something you can go without.” he reminded her.

“She’s having nightmares about monsters and can** sleep because of it.” Anastasia bluntly explained, Azura glared at her for a brief moment, but that did make everything easy all of a sudden.

“We have some spiritual doctors back home in Rellekka.”

“I may take you up on that offer soon...” he smiled thinly and left to assist in preparing the dinner. Just as the plates were placed down, and everyone was settling into their seats, Lowe burst through the front door wearing a smile that he appeared to have stolen from the happiest man on the globe. At least four necklaces of teeth hung from his neck, and he had a large strong looking new bow he left by the door, a long with some arrows which looked crudely and hastily created.

“So i’m back from my exploring, and I think i’ll be able to just relax for a while.”

“Good, now sit yer ass down an’ tell us about it.” Forrest urged him, as he poured himself some gin.

He explained how he went out to Waterbirth Isle by himself, and then survived for the entire time he was gone anyway he could. He enjoyed living in a situation where he could potentially die at any moment, it was a fantastic break from his mundane life style. He explained to them that having them around, would kill the challenge of trying to stay alive. Considering he alone was an expert hunter, so was Forrest, and then with all their other skills jumbled together.. they could start an entire colony.

The Overlord ate at the table in his own seat, no one seemed to mind much. The others even begin to hear him reply to questions. As the night drew on, games were played. First just simple board games, evolving into dart throwing, drinking games, and finally ending with a pyrotechnics display from Azura. Everyone was tired enough to drift off to sleep finally, and one by one, they found places to get comfortable.

“So how well does the Overlord thing...uh, kill things?” Aiden asked as he yawned.

“He does well.” Anastasia tipped what was left of a bottle of spirits into her mouth.

“Can he cook?” Caden softly laughed as he stretched and reclined in a large comfortable chair.

“Yes.”

“Wait really?”

“He is very good at it, makes breakfast every morning.”

“Now this has suddenly become interesting.” Aiden commented.

Cadens eyes‘ glimmered“Yeah, we could use an extra cook around the house. Then he could make breakfast, I could make lunch...”

“And I could make dinner! It’d be perfect.” they laughed at each other for a few moments.

“So ya’ll two is startin’ to look good. Hard ta think ya been runnin’ fer little over three months now.* Forrest wasn’t sleepy just yet, and starting to get bored.

“Well everyone has jobs and things,” Azura sighed “We never get a chance to really see each other anymore.” Lowe was sitting on the couch next to Ko.

“I remember when we barely used to sleep. We were constantly doing something, what the hell happened?” he smirked and looked at his beautiful tooth necklaces.

“You all got old.” Ko joked.

“I sure as hell feel like we did. I remember going two or three days non stop because we were knee deep in toxic sludge and had to escape it. Or we were stuck in a cave system trying to find an exit without magic...*

*Work kills free time.” Anastasia shrugged.

“Hey Ana... is he okay?” Azura looked over at the dinner table, the Overlord looked as if he had been frozen to the spot. She stood up, and so did K*.

“Uh,” she carefully walked over to the table, and poked the frozen squid “He is cold as ice.” she commented.

“What you think Ko?”

“Not sure, this has never happened to me before.” a stream of black liquid began to cover his eye, it looked as if someone was pouring it with a tea pot.

“That ain’t good.” Forrest stood, and so did the two brothers.

Azura sighed, she was just drifting off into sleep “He’s a squid, don’t they shoot ink?”

“Into their own eye? This ain’t quite right.” Aiden was more curious than concerned.

The glass bowl he sat in seemed to turn black as well, and soon his entire eye was covered by the black liquid. It began to pour and drip down his eye stalk, it smelled like rotting fish. A sudden blast of extreme magical energy knocked everyone standing to the ground and Azura shivered, she better than everyone knew what force went into that spell. The bowl creaked and splintered, and then suddenly, exploded. “He is here.” echoed out into the room, as a cloud of black mist was left behind where the Overlord was. Caden stood up, and pulled a glass spike from his arm. The bowl had shattered perfectly into triangles, and were all launched off flawlessly. Each one was stuck in a wall, except for the one in Caden’s arm.

“What the hell just happened?” Lowe pulled a shard of glass out of the wall.

“Familiars sometimes escape their masters,” Ko spoke up “Maybe he was just escaping dramatically?”

“I will consult Pikkupstix tomorrow, will you come with me?”

“I have another entire day of work.” he frowned.

“I will, I need to do something...” Azura volunteered. Azura was smart when it came to magic and other arcane arts, she wouldn’t be completely useless she figured.

“Just sleep here tonight, we’re leaving first thing in the morning.”

“Anything we can do?” the twins asked at the same time.

“Unless you want to go smash in some windows of an old summoning shop, no.*

*Alright, well we tried. Hell, we’ll clean up for you though, right Aiden?”

“Uh, yeah sure.” Forrest joined them in cleaning up the mess without being asked. The holes left by the glass shards disappeared after a few seconds of being pulled out, as if the wall mended itself. But the three said nothing about it. Ko tried hard to think of a logical reason concerning the random outbreak, but nothing came to mind. Azura thought hard, and realized the energy used for him to teleport away like that, was the same as the gemstone she gave him, or at least partly. The other energy was completely foreign.

Anastasia slowly realized she had nothing to do, but wait for her instant work force of free labor to finish cleaning her house, and figuring out what her problems were. They were done in a matter of minutes, and soon the house was empty except for Ko, Azura, and Anastasia.

Anastasia and Ko retired to their bedroom, leaving Azura to sleep on the couch. “I just don’t know what happened, and it’s annoying me.” Ko said as he removed his clothes.

“I will find out tomorrow.” a vague smashing of glass echoed in the distance, she ignored it.

“I hope so. I’ll miss having him cooking for us otherwise.” Ko chuckled, and extinguished the lantern that lit the room. Ko was sleeping fast in minutes, but Anastasia was too perplexed to sleep just yet, she thought carefully over the events of the night. “He is here”, what did that mean?

She thought back to the supposed wicked god who had abandoned his people, maybe? She rolled over and tried to sleep. An hour or two passed, a shriek of terror briefly echoed out into the room, Ko lurched up and so did Anastasia. He was much quicker getting into the living room.

“Ahh!” Azura shrieked as she almost bumped into him.

“What’s wrong?!”

“You have a knife!”

“I thought someone could’ve broken in!”

“Put it up!”

“Azura, just take a deep breath and calm yourself.” Anastasia figured it was just another nightmare in the first place.

“Can I sleep in your room, Anastasia?”

“You’re nineteen.” she had only managed to grab her vodka bottle instead of proper weapon, and she began to drink from it.

“Honestly if I leave now, I can reach Burthope by sun rise, and maybe not have to work ALL day.” Ko nodded and hastily dressed himself, and packed his things for the day. Anastasia wasn’t upset he was leaving, but she was upset that he had only slept for maybe... four hours, and was now off for an entire day’s worth of work. All because a nineteen year old girl was having nightmares.

“I’m sorry...” Azura whimpered.

“Don’t be, we all have problems. I’m an alcoholic for example,” she laughed as Ko walked out of the bedroom in a suit “Ko is a workoholic.” he grinned.

“Well you ladies sleep well, I’ll lock the door on my way out. See you later.” he stepped very lightly as he did*’t want to wake anyone in the apartment building on his way out.

“Can we leave the lantern on?” she asked out of the blue.

“No, open flames around alcoholics are dangerous.” Anastasia extinguished it and lay back in bed, and tried to go back to sleep. After a second or two, Azura lay down on the other side of the bed, like Ana expected. Almost asleep, Ana suddenly felt someone lay their head on her shoulder. This wasn’t going to work out well.

After eventually managing to fall asleep, the night continued on rather peacefully.

Morning came, and Azura was awkwardly hanging halfway off the bed by now. Anastasia dressed herself, but decided to skip breakfast since she had no time to waste. As she turned to wake her partner for the day, she was startled to see her waiting patiently a few feet behind her. “Ready?”

“Yes.” the two walked for about five minutes in silence.

“Sleep well?” Ana finally asked.

“I slept... better.” they continued down the street, the sun was just barely in the sky casting only a very dim glow. Arriving before Pikkupstix’s shop, Anastasia was mildly alarmed at the shattered windows. He sat outside sipping a cup of tea as he and two lackeys tried to figure out who could’ve done something like this.

*What happened here?” Ana commented, surprising Pikkupstix.

“I am not sure, but a few eye witnesses say a pair of giants did this, or something. I don’t know,” he noticed she appeared to want to ask him a question “is there something I can help you with?”

“I have problem with the Overlord..” she explained to him what had happened to it.

“Well that is one big problem... but my hands are all tied up with these smashed windows, I can’t really help you today.”

“Old man, I don’t have time to wait.” he looked baffled for a moment, he hadn’t ever dealt with a student so pushy or rude.

“Well, I have a friend who might be able to help,” he stroked his chin, “her name is Aazzi, she lives on the island of Karamja, deep in the jungle,” he began to walk inside and motioned for them to follow “I have a map here some where, and I can help you get as far as the docks of Brimhaven.” he rummaged through his things like a pack-rat for a few moments, “Here it is.” he handed her a fresh, hardly been used before looking map.

“So I just follow this to... Tai Bwo Wannai?” he nodded. The map began in Brimhaven, and he said he could help them get there “Alright old man, to Brimhaven.” he went upstairs and called for them to follow. On his wall was a mounted amulet, it had a big purple gemstone in the center of it.

“Dragonstone amulet!” Azura said with a big smile as she carefully examined it “It’s been enchanted, too.”

“Aren’t you a clever girl,” he laughed with his big stomach “Just rub it, and it can take you to Brimhaven.” Anastasia went first, followed by Azura. Well that was exciting, he thought to himself as he sipped from his cup and headed back downstairs to begin work repairing his windows.

They landed before a tall iron fence, a tropical paradise lay just beyond it. “Are you in a hurry, since I think I could spend a little time here.” Azura giggled. Pushing the heavy gate open, the two proceeded into town. It would be a slightly time consuming walk to reach the little tribal village, but either way Anastasia wanted to make sure to have some supplies on hand. The two did spent some thirty minutes shopping until finally leaving the small collection of buildings to head out into the brush.

Among the items purchased, Anastasia invested in a machete to help clear through the thick jungle more easily. She was glad she did spend the money, as she almost instantly found herself needing to use it. The jungle was uncomfortably thick and the humidity was even worse. “Snaaaaaake!” Azura screamed latching onto Ana’s back like a monkey. She calmly strolled over and lopped it’s head off, and they continued.

“This machete, I like it.”

“Why’s that?”

“Lightweight, can clear brush and people too I bet.”

“And snakes..” they stopped after about two hours of walking in a small cleared zone of the jungle. Anastasia spotted some fruit up a tree, but the problem was the fruit was at least twenty feet up, and the tree had no low-hanging branches. Removing her belt, she wrapped it around the tree, and used it to help her climb up. “Ana...” Azura nervously called.

“One second.”

“But there’s some..

“Got it!” she pulled a papaya off the tree “Catch these.” she began tossing them over her shoulder, and could hear someone catching them. Five papaya later, and she was satisfied that would be a decent lunch.

“Don’t stop!” a completely foreign voice said from below. Peeking over her shoulder, she saw several slim, athletic looking men, their skin darker than Azura’s.

“I’ll trade you fruit for directions.”

“Fair deal. Where do you want to go?”

“I am looking for a village called ‘Tai Bwo Wannai’”

“You’re in the right place bwana!” the young man grinned “I live there, I will happily guide you to our humble home.” well that was convenient. She plucked the tree of all it’s fruit, gathering up a total of seventeen fruit. She scaled back down the fruit tree and the hunters began to lead her back to their village.

“What business do you have in our land?” a sturdy looking man asked.

“I am here to visit wise woman named ‘Aazi’.”

“Oh!” the small group of hunters instantly relinquished all their doubt or paranoia about the foreign woman’s intentions, she was just another seeking the infinite wisdom of their prized shamaness. “Well da, she can help you with anything.” Azura did*’t exactly like them, they looked too savage to relax around. War-paint all over their faces and chests, primitive looking weapons, they just did*’t look entirely trust worthy.

Another hour of bush whacking, and the village of Tai Bwo Wannai was insight “I always heard that this village did*’t have problems...” Azura said as she starred at what appeared to be a massive, brick wall with a small opening that was heavily guarded.

“Any society will have problems!” the thickly accented man laughed.

“But... I meant like problems with attackers.”
