As the nerve wrecked Lowe and tired Anastasia fell fast asleep together, Forrest quietly observed the medics carefully sewing the man, being careful not to cause more damage than the original wounds. “I wonder what happened to him.” Forrest quietly commented, while glancing over the room. Most of the pirates had returned to the top of the ship to keep removing the karamthulhus, a few were cleaning up the mess of water that was brought in by the rush of men into the medical center. The med center had an eerie feeling to it when it was empty like this, just the quiet medics, and the single man who groaned in pain every now and again.

“Slaves…” the man muttered, raising his head off his feathery pillow In a weirdly accented voice, he began trying to speak “free…. help” his incoherent mumbling continued. One of the medics force fed him another shot glass full of whiskey, and his head slumped back. One of the medics laughed coldly, before speaking.

“Well, slaves are always a fun topic…” Forrest made himself comfortable on a couch, he found the man to be interesting for some reason, he wanted to know his story as soon as possible. He crossed his legs, and began patiently waiting. In about thirty minutes, the medics had cleaned, sewed, and bandaged all of his wounds, he was battered, and bruised, probably hungry, and definitely exhausted… but he would live to fight another day.

Forest listened closely to their theories and ideas of what might’ve happened to the poor man, but he couldn’t hear them very well, despite the quietness of the room, the thunder was not so subtle. “What do you think happened, docs.” Forest asked quietly from behind the four pirate medics. They looked at each other for a minute, before the shortest one out of the group stepped forward to explain their theory of what happened.

“We think, that he was attacked by men, his injuries are consistent to sword slashes. We assume he was on board a ship, maybe some bandits attacked him, and in the struggle he was cut and burned somehow. We also found some wounds near his forehead and nose consistent with human knuckles, so we can guarantee that it wasn’t the karamthulhus.

*What about all the little scratches?” was Forrest’* next question. The four stood puzzled, they weren’t exactly sure either.

“We figured he might’ve been running, and tripped somehow, which caused him to get scratched while sliding across, whatever rough surface he was running on. Forrest simply nodded, taking in all the information, but he still had some questions.

Forrest got a few good looks at some of his cuts, "Looks to me like he shoulda done bled to death, and not to mention the fact he was in salty water with open wounds, don’t seem like it woulda been long before infection set in, and I don’t see how he could deal with that constant pain either.”

The shortest medic nodded in an agreeing fashion, “He’s muscular, he’s very healthy, but even so we’re thinking it’s nothing but a miracle he managed to hang on as long as he did.*

*So yer sayin’ he’s nearing death, or ya already saved him?” Forrest leaned back in the couch, and yawned slightly, the rain was making him sleepy.

“No no, he’s going to recover, in fact we’ll be waking him up soon, to feed him, food is some of the best healing products around. I think he’ll be back on his feet in hours, and back to full strength in a week or less.”

“Good stuff.” Forrest began, trying to keep his eyelids open “Looks like this guy done had lots of bad luck, and things ‘er finally lookin up fer him. Good stuff, good stuff…” Forrest slid his legs off the ground and onto the stiff couch, laying his head back and closing his eyes, the three of the medics departed from the medical station, off to prepare a special blend of foods that’d be of great assistance to wounded man’s body, and leaving one behind, just in case.

Forrest slept for about an hour and a half, and upon waking up, was pleased to see the man sitting up in bed, a half eaten tray of food before him, two of the medics sat in chairs reading books, it appeared there was nothing left to do, but let nature takes it course. The man ate as if he hadn’t for days, Forrest thought. But it occurred to him he probably hadn’t. Forrest noticed Aiden and Caden leaning in the doorway to the med center, Azura was in a chair asleep, and Lowe and Anastasia were still asleep towards the other side of the room in a large chair.

Bentley strolled casually into the room, two swashbucklers tailed behind him. Bentley pulled a chair up and sat at the end of the odd looking man’s bed. Anastasia and Lowe were shaken awake by a rather loud boom of thunder, and upon seeing the man bandaged and eating, they curiously strolled towards Forrest, asking him what was going on.

He woke Azura, and called over Aiden and Caden to tell them all the information he had gathered, bringing them up to pace, Aiden and Caden moved the couch towards the bed, and slid two chairs up so the entire group could be comfortably seated, and observe whatever was about to happen between the Captain and the injured man. Bentley and the man’s eyes connected, but that did*’t slow the man from continuing devouring his food, and soon the large tray was almost empty.

“What is yer name, boy.” Bentley’s gravely voice suddenly asked, breaking the thick silence in the room. The man did*’t bother to finish chewing, before swallowing his food and replying quickly, in his odd accent.

“Ko.”, he took a deep drink from his wooden mug filled with tea, and continued “Ko Ning, is my full name” The Captain nodded.

“I am Bentley, Captain Bentley…what happened to you, I need you to explain in detail, how you ended up drifting around in the ocean.” Ko smiled, his teeth were perfect.

“My story is long, and not very pleasant.” He said before sighing, and rubbing his beard, it was short, shaggy looking, he probably hadn’t the chance to shave in days, maybe weeks. His facial hair consisted of a goatee that connected to his sideburns, Anastasia found the look to be charming, it would be even more so if he was cleaned up a bit. “Well, it all started, back in the lands I was born I was born in, I guess.” He paused, wondering if he should really spill his life story to a pirates, and an odd looking group of six people.

“There are three classes of people back home, the Ruling class, they own all the weapons, all the armor, all the magic, all the houses, they own everything, and like to make sure there’s nothing anyone can do about it. And then, there is the Poor class, you will work all day, every day, and barely be able to put food on the table for your family, while the majority of your money is collected in taxes, and goes back to the Ruling class.* His eyes glazed over, as he experienced some flashbacks from his past, he snapped out of it, and continued more nervous.

“And then there is the Slave class, you work all day, every day, sometimes every day and night, and you get just enough food to live off of. Sometimes a bed, too.”

“But, not everyone likes to obey the rules, not everyone likes being ruled, and that is how I got into much trouble…”

He shook his head slightly, as if reflecting on past mistakes. “My life was good, but I wanted to make it better, and in the process, broke some rules.”

“My father was the owner of a small business, it was a construction company that had a total of fifteen employees, my father charged a reasonable price for quality work, and we did*’t really fall into the Poor category, but we were far from the Ruling class, I suppose you could say we were the middle class, but there was hardly any other such people I knew of. When I was younger, I had to work with my father daily, but as his influence and wealth grew in our small town, he began needing me less and less, as he had crews to handle the labor, and he himself managed the fine details.” Ko chuckled, and took a drink of whiskey from a shot glass. “I guess it’s true what they say, idle time, is trouble time..”

“I did my studies, but they often lasted only a few hours a day, leaving me with plenty of energy, and time for other things. I used some of my time to exercise, and socialize, but there were only so many fun things to do in a group, there was strict laws against alcohol, being loud and disturbing the Rulers was something I witnessed a man get felled by arrows for. And perhaps, most annoying was the even more strict laws against being out beyond a certain time at night, as to prevent thieves. Slaves, owned by the Rulers, would often have a guard watching over them, to assure they caused no problems during the night time, but if you wanted to work at night, you’d have to hire a mercenary guard from an approved location to watch you.”
