“The short answer is, they’re called Karamthulhus. The long story behind them, is something I don’t want to talk about right now.” He said in a tone, which told the pirate the conversation was over. And so the burly man exited, shutting the door behind him. Azura had her ear pressed against the door the whole conversation, as did the two pirates she was speaking with earlier. The large man was in something of a daze, he definitely did*’t like the captains tone of voice, and the odd injuries these things caused were baffling as well, but he figured he wouldn’t worry about it, and he’d simply do what the captain asked. “Weird.” Azura commented, causing the burly pirate to snap around.

“You two!” his deep voice boomed, “Fetch some sticks, spears… whatever, and get on deck, and help shovel these damn things overboard.” He ordered, before climbing the ladder to get above deck. As the horrible storm raged on, almost one quarter of the crew was on deck, with shovels, spears, mops, and an assortment of other tools removing the abominations, with their only light source being the oil lamps, that were almost useless in such thick rain, and of course, the lightning.

All six of the group found it almost impossible to sleep, the storm had escalated severally since the night before, the constant roaring thunder, the flashing lightning, the vigorous tilting and rocking of the ship.. it was all very unpleasant. The six slowly gathered on deck in the morning, the rain had let off, but it was freezing cold, and the winds were still furious, and furthermore, waves were still washing the things onto the ship.

“What are these?” Lowe asked, poking one with his longbow. He thought it was odd they just kind of sat on the deck, until they were shoved back into the ocean. What was more odd, was how several of the men on deck were bandaged up. Glancing over the large amount of men keeping them off the ship, he noticed that most of the injuries appeared to be in the hands, and face area. Azura wondered if they could be house trained, they were adorable, she thought.

“I heard Captain Bentley call these things, karamthulhus.”, she whispered to the group “He made it very clear to one of his crewmen, that they did*’t belong on the ship.”

“Haven’t we eaten things like this before, Aiden?” Caden asked, lifting up one by its tentacle, before tossing it off the ship.

*I.. think so.” Aiden replied, as he kicked one like a ball off the side of the ship. “Heh, I think I know what I’m going to be doing for the rest of this trip.” He kicked another one into the raging waters below, but lost his balance, and slipped. He groaned and stood back up, but undeterred, continued kicking, tossing, and whacking the odd creatures off the ship. Caden joined in after a while, and due to the lack of better things to do, they found it entertaining to abuse the weird things off the ship. Azura, not wanting to seriously harm them, used weak, water based spells to simply shove them off the vessel. Caden behaved much like his brother, in the removal process.

Lowe tried using his longbow in a manner similar to that of a golf club, but realized his bow wasn’t designed for bludgeoning things very soon. So he found a more entertaining method of getting rid of them. He and Anastasia would take turns tossing the karamthulhus into the air, off the ship, and then they would either shoot it with a headless arrow, or toss empty bottles at them. The headless arrows, though far from harmless, and not very accurate, were still less cruel than outright shooting the seemingly harmless things.

They did*’t make any noises, most did*’t attempt to move any after landing on the ship, and they hadn’t injured anyone else, such odd creatures. The day continued on, rain steadily growing heavier and heavier, soon jackets and coats were completely soaked, and were nothing but extra weight, which they simply found safe spots to store them. It was stinging cold, and they couldn’t accurately, or reliably remove the creatures using any method, hell, It was even difficult to see them.

“Help…” a faint voice ringed out, few heard it out first, but it soon grew slightly louder “Help!”, people looked around, the rain was so damn hard to hear through.

“Man overboard!” a voice roared from the crow’s nest, crew scrambled to the sides of the ship, and scanned through the water, but it was almost impossible to spot anything, until a man suddenly resurfaced from out of the water, obviously struggling for his life. “Get some rope ladders!” an officer cried out, sending several of the pirates scrambling to fulfill the order.

“He’s going to drown!” someone screamed, stating the obvious. Anastasia put one foot on top of the railing, and then propelled herself overboard much to the demise of Lowe, and to a lesser extent, the rest of the group. Lowe’s heart sank like a stone, and his eye widened dramatically, he called after her, but it wasn’t an option to get back on the vessel without the ladders. Lowe ran his fingers through his hair, and began to pace, before crying slightly.

“She’ll be fine.” Forrest’s calming voice came from behind, when in reality, he was not so certain.

Anastasia was quickly surprised at the difficulty of swimming in a situation like this, but she had already consumed a fifth of vodka, and the dangers of reality were slightly dimmed, she did a good job of controlling her heart rate as she swam with all her strength towards the unidentified man. Every time he went under the water, he almost instantly came back up, but he was starting to take a few seconds longer each time, but finally, she had reached him. He instinctively grabbed onto her, pulling her under slightly, but she was a very strong woman, she was slender, but very muscular, and overall very healthy, aside from her drinking problems.

She pulled him above the waves, and managed to get a good look at him, what an odd looking man, with his slightly slanted eyes.. “I’ve got you, no worries!”, she hollered over the pounding rain and roaring thunder. She struggled hard to keep the two of them floating, even dipping under the water a few times. A sharp pain suddenly jolted across her body; the rope ladder had struck her in the head, she went under the water, disappearing from sight from the men onboard the ship. She resurfaced after around five seconds, the man was holding onto the ladder, but waiting for her, his hand extended outward, he assisted her onto the ladder, and the two quickly found a new challenge awaiting them.

The rope was slippery, and due to the ship tilting, would slam against the haul, the man almost fell off, just barely hanging by one arm, he managed to pull himself back. Aiden and Caden began to pull the ladder up, allowing the two to rest their muscles. As they neared the top of the deck, Bentley, and Lowe pulled the two to safety, Anastasia was bleeding from the top of her head, and short of breath, but otherwise alright. The man she had rescued was covered in bruises, cuts, and even had some minor burn wounds.

He collapsed on deck, and it was soon up to the Swag’s medics to save his life, as it appeared that his inner thigh had a deep cut, meaning an artery could’ve been severed, his life was at risk. Aiden and Caden followed the four medics, while carrying the near dead man, a large amount of others followed, as they rushed through the corridors and halls which eventually lead to a large medical station, which was well lit, and supplied.

They began to clean the wounds with alcohol, as well as force feeding him whiskey to kill the pain of sewing up the cuts. The three major wounds he had, were a cut on his neck, a slash along his ribs which looked rather painful, and finally his injured thigh, they weren’t sure if he had any broken bones, but his skeletal structure seemed to be just fine, since was able to climb the ladder with relative ease. They had no idea where all these wounds came from, was it the karamthulhus?

As the medics did their jobs, Lowe pulled Anastasia to the side of the room, and gave her a long, meaningful hug, “Good job, but damn it, you scared me.” He offered her a towel, which she used to dry her hair with, before magically pulling a bottle of vodka from nowhere. She took a swig, before passing it to Lowe, who probably needed it more than she did to calm his ruined nerves. He sighed to himself after returning the bottle to her, he regretted falling in love, again… things were so much more simple when it was only him, his bow, and the whole world ahead of him.

“He looks sort of weird.” Lowe said after a few seconds of silence.

“Da, his skin color, and facial structure seem odd to me, too.” She replied, putting an arm over his shoulder, and offering him her bottle once again. Lowe accepted it, and soon the two drifted off into a drunken, exhausted sleep in each other’s arms.
