She said to the doctor,"oh ok. That's good to know. How can a subject can never be harmed by their own mutation?" The strange energy in her kept growing and growing even stronger then ever.

A few mins later the strange energy finally came out of Annie's body. She screamed with pain and fright as fire came out of her fingers. It shot all over the place hopefully she didn't hit anyone in the beds next to her or no damage to the lab. She fainted but she was breathing.

Damage to the medical bay wasn't a concern, as the moment the fire came into being there was a shimmer in the air around her bed and all of the fire that would have gone into the surrounding area was stopped more inches away. The only thing that it was able to hit was her bed, and the angles that the fire flew off at meant that it was barely able to do anything. The sheets were burned with some holes in them and the metal might have raised in temperature by a few degrees, but that was the extent of the bed damages.

As for pain, Annie was actually not able to feel any. The sensation of the fire coming into being was definitely warm, hotter than most things she was used to, but not painful in that sense. Any fire that touched her would just move on, not harming her in any way, and the elemental-resistant qualities in the jumpsuits prevented it from catching fire.
Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.

The moment the projection was dissipated, Jack felt the flood of sensory suddenly cease. The immediate lack of stimuli left him nearly as unanchored as the initial flood. For a moment he fought for some kind of mental footing and it took him a second to ease back into his regular mental state.

Unknown to Jack, his mutation was rapidly rearranging connections between neurons in his brain using its natural neuroplasticity. It wasn’t unnatural for the brain to do this to optimize itself for whatever cognitive skills were used most frequently; however, the rate at which the new connections were forming was far from normal. Perhaps more intriguing would be the way the connections were forming a new structure in the brain, taking cells from the frontal lobe to create a small new region. This would of course come at the cost of some of his social skills, but he never really used those all that much before.

Closer inspection could reveal the new region was being designed to handle mass amounts of sensory input and return corresponding commands. Specifically input and output for multiple projections; though, at the point of the first projection the new section had not been entirely ready, thus overriding his regular senses. The region was now forming rapidly, but slowing down the rate at which new connections were being made.

Jack jerked his head up from where it rested on the bed, completely bewildered by his experience. He only just caught the hologram’s question when the girl in the bed beside him screamed. His head snapped over to see some fire spurting from her fingers, but vanishing a few inches away. A normal reaction perhaps would have been to jump away from the fire; however, he felt so drained that he realized there was no danger from the fire before his reflexes could have him jumping away.

Jack rose back up from the bed staring that the flaming girl, a little too overwhelmed to think of a logical response to what he was seeing happen in front of him. He turned back to the hologram, his mouth slightly open from trying to think of something to say, then uttered, “Umm… I’m fine I guess, but what the **** just happened?”

Cogito Ergo Sum

The dark-haired girl had a lot to say, as much as she tried to make the opposite clear. The doctor's incoming footsteps repelled her. Hoping to avoid meeting eyes, she grazed her troubled eyes on the crash site to her left; the IV pole had felled a small cart of miscellanea. Worry still twinged in her gut that Dr. Vellian wasn't coming to talk -- and rather was just taking her time to attack -- but the supply of will and anger that would have motivated the girl to defend herself had run dry.

She could hear now, though. Her own breathing was foremost to her ears, but her mind was clear enough now to receive what the Doctor had to say; it all felt numb -- a mental blank so sheer and blunt that just being aware of it staggered her thinking.

And what the Doctor had to say was enough to make the girl shift. She squirmed however she could to distance herself, and was still for a time, like she were tendering words she was anxious to speak.

"
I don't know who that is.
" she said of the name. Her voice was clearer now that it was quiet.

"
I just... don't remember anything. I don't know why I'm here -- I don't know anything!
" she continued, cradling her head. Her voice rose and desperation and then fell with a sharp sigh. It frustrated her that she couldn't be more articulate. Thoughts more substantial lurked on the rim of her mind, but her dazed brain and numb tongue couldn't figure them out.

The girl suppressed a whimper. "
I don't know what's happening.
" she said, mostly to herself.

She seemed ready to draw herself into a tighter ball until a scream broke the relative silence. Her eyes snapped up past her knees, and -- past the two unrealistically similar-looking young women who had simply appeared in the midst of the room -- the little blonde girl sat on her bed, vivid orange flames spraying from her hands.

The dark-haired girl tensed upright and froze, transfixed by the morbidity of what she was seeing. The flames, as alarming as they looked, didn't escape the area -- it was like an indistinct field of glitter punched into existence around the bed in between blinks, holding the air in place and turning away the tendrils of flame that neared what the dark-haired girl supposed was the boundary of the distortion. She couldn't pick out an edge or a surface that might suggest a barrier, and yet something stood there.

It felt like the little girl was frozen there, ablaze, for an uncomfortable eternity, but the dark-haired girl blinked again and the fire had receded. The girl was collapsed, apparently unburnt. A cloud of warmth flowed down the room, escorting the scent of burnt fabric.

When it was over, the dark-haired girl sank back again, still evading the Doctor's eyes.

The girl embraced herself, detached by shock and disillusion.

Just as planned, Red's entrance into the great hall cafeteria drew the attention of near-enough everybody present. Startled heads turned her way, though most were quick to turn back to their groups when they saw it was only the resident mini-hulk. The only noteworthy event ended up being somebody, and it was impossible for her to know who, declaring that she should go yell at somebody else. A little disappointing, to be honest.

Pouting slightly the girl stuck her hands on her hips, shaking her head with some degree of exasperation. Where was all the enthusiasm? Come on, they had superpowers! What was with all the doom and gloom? Well, doom and gloom through her eyes, at least. Somebody walked inside after her a second later, actually giving her a greeting unlike CERTAIN OTHER RUDE PEOPLE, and upon looking his way she took a second to recognize him.

Dom? No, uh... Danny! Wait, wait... Harry? No, she was getting further away... Kilian! Okay, where'd that name come from? Oh! Oh! She had it! She had it now!

" Mornin'... Sheene! " The redhead declared loudly, jabbing a finger triumphantly in the boy's direction. She wasn't good with names, especially not with so many to remember. Luckily, it seemed like she caught herself a couple of moments later, slapping her own forehead and holding up her finger in realization. " Dean! that was it, Dean! Mornin'~! "

Proud of herself for finally remembering the poor guy's name, Red pursued him down the central line between the tables, heading for the food on the opposite end of the huge room. There was a bounce in her step like always, the tell-tale sign of a ridiculous amount of energy that only ever seemed to wane when she was trying to get up in the morning. With this slightly hastened pace she reached the food before him, gathering up a plate and tray then scrounging for whatever took her interest.

Thus she was supplied with a full English breakfast. With extra bacon and a small side of some kind of soup.

Soup for breakfast? Sure, why the hell not! The staff here WERE tryng to keep them happy, after all. But with food in hand the next big question of the day came to the bundle of energy, and that was where was she going to sit?

There was TONS of empty tables scattered around the room, far more than they could ever fill, but sitting on an empty table was just BOOORINGGG. Red was a social creature, one who needed to be around others if only to prove how awesome she was, so it was after only a brief scan of the cafeteria that she turned her focus to a quiet little table over in the corner where a single girl around her own age sat.

Subject 13? Subject 13.

It wasn't like the two were close. Heck, the diminutive girl couldn't remember 13's name! She wasn't entirely sure if she'd ever gotten her name, actually, even if the two had both been here a long time. But that was just going to have to change! Of course, it wouldn't do to just have the two of them sat on a table together, that was still just too quiet and lonely! So, not even bothering to ask what he thought about the idea, Red reached out and grasped Dean's arm once he was done getting his food, then promptly led him across the cafeteria to 13's table.

The boy would have no choice. Her grip was like a steel vice.

*RATTLE*

Man, those trays really made a racket when they hit the table surfaces.

The redhead sat opposite Subject 13, trademark grin plastered across her bright face. If she remembered rightly the other girl hung around a lot with a bunch of the Subjects who tried to escape, and one of them had been her cousin or something...? Oh, her sister! Well, it wouldn't do to have her feeling down and sat all alone, so here she was to brighten things up!

" Hey! " Red greeted 13 cheerfully, quick to tear into the bacon on her plate. She continued speaking with food in her mouth, although luckily without any kind of splattering! " What'*ha been up to? "

Miles crossed his arms in front of him when Talbot finally turned to face them. Must be some great honor for him to look you in the eye. Talbot began briefing them on the mission and confirmed that finding out the fate of those subjects was an objective, though a secondary one.

Miles was puzzled when this new voice began speaking, casting a few glances around the room in confusion, but then he realized it was the intercom announcer. Was it some sort of AI? This place just kept getting weirder. He listened to its description of forty-three, interested in such a technical ability.

He accepted a holo-map from Juradis, looking the device over a bit. Seemed like a simple enough mission. Even if those Subjects were still alive, they couldn't do a damn thing to their recon team.

"We'll get it done." He tucked the map away and looked aside at his two teammates. He had no further questions and was ready to go.

----

Red was certainly an... Energetic girl. She struggled to remember his name, but he wasn't too offended. He didn't really draw much attention to himself. Dean reached the food shortly after Red, taking a tray and grabbing some nice helpings of waffles, bacon, and sausage.

Dean raised an eyebrow when Red took some soup. Why was soup even available for breakfast? Maybe some weirdos like clam chowder in the morning? Sure, why not.

Once he was done picking breakfast, he scanned the room for tables. Normally he sat with one of the smaller groups, but maybe Red had something in mind? "Where do you wanna-" Suddenly her hand shot out and seized him by the wrist and dragged him along like he was a child. He felt like his arm was about to dislocate as he was tugged by this redheaded brute.

She plopped him down at the table across from Subject 13. As Red greeted her enthusiastically, Dean gave her an awkward look that said something along the lines of I'm not here of my own free will , only for a second before he started on his breakfast.

"Seems straightforward enough." Gary said, accepting his device. Though he was a bit reluctant to rely on the powers of a subject. The idea of leaving his body behind and entering some sort of ghost form did not make him feel comfortable.

"I'll need some time to get a light source and a weapon." He said to Miles. "I'll meet you down there as soon as I can." And with that, he walked out the door.

When the time came, he would be standing at the door to the lower levels with a flashlight, a pair of nightvision goggles, and a pistol as a sidearm.
