A war will be waged... Kingdoms will fall... Men shall die... Alliances shall be remade... and evil shall spread across the lands of Runescape...
The last Party Hat... An item so valuable it alone could buy all the kingdoms in Runescape...
•••••••••••••••••••
“I am pleased to announce that the city of Yannile will be holding the last party hat known to man!” My father, the mayor of Yannile announced. Everyone roared their approval.
“The council of Falador has decided that the safest place would be here, as it is out of the way from any danger, and we are protected by our wonderful mages from the Wizard’s Guild!” The mages bowed as everyone clapped for them.
“And now, I will place the party hat at the top at the Guild, where nobody will ever be able to reach it!” Then he was lost from view as he walked into the guild. I stood among the rest of the crowd, excitedly waiting for his return. I looked around. A few Gnomes were here, along with the rest of the Yannile citizens. The Gnomes looked uneasy, as if they were late for being somewhere.

I turned my view back to the Guild door just as it opened, and my father stepped out.
“The party hat is safe!” He shouted. Everyone roared and hugged each other in celebration. All the years of war would now be over. Or so we thought. Suddenly, there was a scream and a guard ran forward to us, his face was completely pale.
“Enemies at the door!” He spluttered, and then fell over, an arrow in his back. My stomach lurched as blood poured out of his wound.
“Get the women and children to the Guild! Quickly now! Mages, come with me!” He yelled as he and the mages ran off toward the gates, where the rest of the soldiers were gathered. The Gnomes withdrew bows from their backs and followed the mages. I stood looking after them, wondering if I should go as well. But my mind was made up as someone grabbed my arm and pulled me into the Guild along with everyone else. I looked up to see who it was, and I saw it was my neighbor and good friend, Eragna.
Eragna was a very skilled mage, one of the few who still knew the ancient magiks. But he had not been admitted into the mage guild due to his lack of knowledge about teleportation spells. If you ask me, he was better than all of the mages in there combined.

“Did*’t you here your father? He said to get into the guild!” He said as he hurried in with the rest of us.
“Shouldn’t you be fighting?” I asked.
“Your father told me to stay here and protect the citizens.” He said. I noticed the smallest look of longing in his eyes, but it was quickly replaced by concern.
“Quickly now!” He yelled to the others who were still running into the Guild. Suddenly, there was a huge crash and I turned to see everyone bracing the city door. Roars echoed outside, and arrows flew over the top of the walls.
“GET IN!” He shouted over the cries of women and children, and ushered everyone in just as the arrows clattered down into the streets. He quickly closed the doors of the Guild and turned around to look at everyone.
“Well, what are you waiting for? Go to the top floor!” He shouted. Everyone hurriedly tried to move up the stairs, but it was a slow process due the amount of people in the Guild. I heard more roars outside and the sound of many bodies ramming the city door. Eragna was the last one up the stairs. I waited for him at the top.
“What do you think will happen?” I asked.
*I don’t know Agnar, I don’t know.” He answered.

Suddenly, there was a huge crash and the sound of steel against steel as the enemy army broke through the door. I heard the sound of arrows flying off of bows, and the mages yelling their spells. I looked around. Everyone was sitting in small groups, their faces white with fear.
My palms began to sweat. Would my dad be ok? As if sensing my fears, Eragna put his hand on my shoulder.
“He’ll be ok.* He said. I did*’t know if that was to reassure me, because it did*’t help at all. The screaming outside went on for hours, and finally it stopped. I jerked upright at the sound of marching feet coming toward us.
“They won!” A child screamed, and ran down the stairs to open the Guild door.
“NO! WAIT!” Eragna shouted but it was too late. The child had opened the door, and outside was not the Yannile army, but the Zammorakian army. The child’s scream was cut short by the clash of a sword.
“Oh no...* Eragna whispered. The Zammorakian forces were now running up the stairs, coming straight for us. Eragna casted a spell and the front line burst into ice, and fell down the stairs. The next line was incased in a wall of shadows, they screamed and were thrown off the stairs.

“Get out of here!” Eragna shouted to the people in the Guild. “I’ll hold them off just go!” Everyone slowly got to their feet and started to run up the next staircase where the party hat was. Eragna casted one more spell on the stairs, which turned into ice, and all the men on it slid down. I turned to see Eragna running toward me, but he suddenly stopped.
“Come on!” I shouted!
“I...I Can’t move!” He shouted. “I’ve been snared!” There was nothing I could do. I heard the Zammorakian forces advancing slowly up the stairs, and I made a quick decision. Turning to the crowd of people I said,
“You’re all going to be alright.” And then teleported all of them to Ardounge. The spell had taken away a huge amount of stamina, and I fell to my knees. That magic was too much for me. Crawling on my knees, I burst open the drawer holding the party hat. I stared at it in its cupboard, then grabbed it and put it in my bag. I then ran down to where Eragna was stuck, and gasped when I saw the Zammorakian forces turning the corner. I grabbed onto Eragna’s shirt and casted the teleportation spell to Ardounge, just as an arrow was realesed right at us. All the Zammorakian forces would find would be a small black dot from where we teleported.

We landed in Ardounge with a huge crack. Everyone around us jumped. I was very weak from all the magic I had done. With Eragna’s help I stood up. Looking around, I saw many people standing around us, staring with blank faces.
“Who are you?” A voice rang out from behind me. I turned to see who it was. The man was dressed in expensive looking clothes, and wore a crown atop his head. It was the king of Ardounge.
*I am Agnar, and this is Eragna.” I answered. “I recently teleported many people here, did you see them?”
“Yes, they are here.”
“My town, Yannile, was overrun by Zammorakian troops. They were after this,” I showed him the party hat. He gasped and grabbed at it, but I moved my hand away.
“Give it to me.” He said. “It will be safe in the castle.”
“No.” I answered, but Eragna put his hand on my shoulder and said,
“Let him have it. He is a friend.” Reluctantly, I handed it over.

“Now.* Said the king. “Those Zammork troops will be here by nightfall. We must get ready for a fight. General, get our men ready for war.”
“Yes sir!* The man standing next to him said. He then ran off toward the castle.
“You, come with me.” The king said, motioning at me. I stepped forward and he led me to the castle. I never took my eyes off the party hat. We climbed up many staircases until we were in a small room. He motioned for me to sit in a chair against the wall, and I sat.
“Tell me, what exactly happened?” He asked. I recounted the events to him, and he nodded at each sentence. He did*’t show any emotion, not even when I described the hours of fighting and screaming. Eventually, he asked,
“How did you get the party hat?”
“The Zammorakian troops were coming, I did*’t know what to do, I panicked.
“Well, you did a foolish thing, but the right thing. If you hadn’t done this, the party hat would now be in Zammorak’s control. I thank you for that.” He said. I nodded, then looked out the window. The people outside looked as if they had no life, no joy.
“What is wrong with them? They look as if they have no joy for life!”
“The western part of the kingdom was hit by a vicious plague. Many have died already. And with Zammorak’s forces pushing ever closer to us, there is no joy in them.

“That’s horrible!” I yelled.
“I know. There is nothing we can do about the plague, and Zammorak is getting ever stronger. If he gets this party hat, all hope will be lost. Suddenly, there was a huge crash as the city doors were closed.
“Enemies at the gate!” Someone shouted.
“I must go.” The king said. “And you must get out of here. Here, take the party hat. You seem like a strong boy. The safest place will be the Varrok castle. Head there, they will protect you. There is nothing left for you in Ardounge, there is nothing left for anyone.
Leave now before they find you.” He said, and handed me the party hat.
"But what about the Yannile citizens? Will they be ok?"
"They will be fine, now go!"
I took one last look at him, then ran out of the room. I headed down the long staircase, where Eragna was waiting.
“We need to leave.” I said. Eragna nodded, and we started to run toward the city center. Suddenly, someone grabbed my shoulder. I turned around to see a soldier looking at me.
“I am here to protect you.” He said. “I am a Hero.”
“Thank you.” I said. “I really appreciate it.” With our new companion, we left Ardounge. Rain was lightly falling now. The sounds of battle echoed over the castle walls as we left out the back exit.

It seemed like we had been walking for days. My feet had grown sore, and my desert boots were not holding up well. Eventually the Hero spoke up,
“We should stop and rest. Zammork and his men must be far enough behind now.*
*I agree.” Eragna said, and he rolled down onto the ground. Suddenly, and arrow landed in the ground right next to my foot. I heard the sound of many more arrows being released off bows.
“RUN!” I screamed. We took off through the woods once again, the arrows never giving up in their endless pursuit against us. Soon, Eragna panted,
“I...I can’t go on!” He stopped running and put his hands to his knees and began to take in huge breaths.
“Come on! We don’t have much—“
“Who goes there?” A voice rang out through the trees.
“I am Agnar, and I am carrying the party hat to the Varrok castle.
“Bless my soul, the last party hat! My apologies, my apologies! Please accept them, I had no idea.”
“Who are you?” Eragna asked.
“I am the leader of the Range Guild. We thought you might be Zammork spies coming to attack us, again I am very sorry.
“We need a place to rest, do you have such a place?” I asked.
“Yes, yes come in, come in.” The voice said.

I heard gates open to the right of us, and stepping through the tress, I saw a huge wall. Archers stood on top of them, all looking at us. I suddenly felt very nervous. These people had just tried to kill us, and we were heading right into their hands?
"Welcome to the rangers guild." An archer said as he stepped out from behind the door. My body relaxed. A guild, we were safe.
"I'm sorry about the confusion, I thought you were...someone else."
"That's Ok; as long as I'm alive I'm happy."
"Yes, well I'm sure you are all very tired from your journey, please come in and rest." We walked in, and it seemed as if the whole area was devoted to rangers. There were ranging shops on the left and right, and in front of us was a small target practice area.
"Come this way." The man said, and we followed. He led us into a small tent, and he sat down. I and the others sat down too.
"So, you¡¦re the one with the last party hat, eh?"
"Yes." I answered.
"Well, I know it must be a huge task for you. Might I or someone else at the guild care for it?"
"No.¡¨ I said, It is mine to carry."
"It would be safer here, let us take it."
"No." I said again.
"Let us take it!"
"No!" I answered and stood up. The ranger stood up as well, and withdrew his bow.
"I don't know why someone would be as stupid as to let a boy carry this valuable item!" He brought his bow up, and put an arrow onto the string. I froze with fright. The archer let go of the strong and the arrow flew straight at me.
