×Chapter 26×
×Revelation×
“Adam! Wait!” Rachel cried as Adam sprinted off into the rain, dejection tearing through his insides like a cruel sickness.
Adam ran until he couldn’t see the remains of the house through the fog. He did*’* want to see Rachel. She would think he was a monster, some kind of freak. She probably hated him for not telling her. A fence appeared through the haze and Adam spotted a crate next to the wooden fence and he collapsed down onto it, the will to move gone from his legs. He buried his head in his hands and sat in solitude as the rain drenched him to the skin.
Rachel walked around the corner of Aubury’s Rune Shop and continued straight in the direction Adam had run until she spotted a fence piercing through the mist. Next to the fence was Adam sitting on a crate, huddled up against the rain and sopping wet, his face tucked in his palms and his elbows resting on his knees as he sat there, wallowing in sadness.
“Adam?” Rachel asked, more worried than she was confused.
Adam looked up from his hands, his eyes red. Rachel walked closer and hopped up on the fence. The early morning sun had brightened the overcast day into a wet, grey, wonderland. Adam and Rachel were sitting together at the fence, almost in their own little world as the mist surrounded them on all sides, making them invisible to anyone more than a few feet away. It wasn’t like anyone was out to see them this early in the morning anyways, except John of course, who had stayed behind to get their possessions out of the rain.
“Adam, you can tell me anything you know. When I look at you I see only the man I love. Everyone has their minor…defects. Nobody is perfect.”
