As soon as the man passed them Al snuck up behind him and daintily removed his hilt and sword and handed it to Adam. Adam would have been surprised to see such a mastery of thieving if Al had not already demonstrated many times before his expertise in his craft. The clunking slowly but surely faded off into the distance and the shadow vanished behind a corner leading down into the tunnels, he was going to wake up the rest of the prisoners.
Adam felt a sudden jolt as a thought from Rachel struck him with a tidal wave of joy, “I can see you Adam.”
A wide grin spread across his face and he thought back, “Don’t leave me in suspense here, come join us! This is Al, a good friend of mine. Don’t worry; I’ll shield you from any harm that may come at us.”
This time a voice responded as Rachel walked out from behind a different corner than the guard had come from, this one was the other of the two main tunnels, this one led to the women’s mines, “I can defend myself Adam, as long as I have the right runes I am a force to be reckoned with.”
Adam smirked when he knew she was just as quirky as ever, even after being imprisoned.
“Shall we?* asked Adam.
“Yes, let’s,” Rachel replied as she channeled her magical energy through an air rune and swung the door wide open with a large gust of wind.
“Go!” Adam said as guards turned to see why the door was opening.
At his signal Rachel turned around and used a very powerful water jet to carve boulders from the tunnel behind them, blocking any guards doing rounds in the tunnels from coming up behind them. They were much better off than the guards outside the tunnels.
Guards funneled out into the main opening of the mining camp, a flood of them coming from the guards’ quarters with swords at the ready. “You two, run for the gate! I’ll be right behind; those guards took my favorite dagger.”
