×Chapter 18×

“Lord Drakan!”
“Yes, guard?”
“The prince, John, has requested an audience with you, your highness.”
“Send him in.”
“Yes, your Majesty!”
John walked into the throne room cautiously, knowing every step he took was being judged by his father’s eyes. The sickly green stones of the castle had fancy purple tapestries draped over them below each of the high windows. A lavender carpet embroidered with gold leaf made its way to the throne of John’s father, a wrought iron throne padded with red velvet. Two vicious statues stood at his sides, both had the features of vampires and held swords against their chests pointing down.
Lord Drakan was sitting at his throne, swirling a golden goblet of blood in his pale fingers. He was a pure vampire, not blood starved, not mindless, he was royalty. His features were all pale and ghastly, but his cheeks were not sunken and his hands were not merely emaciated flesh and bones. He was known to be supernaturally strong and fast, with razor sharp reflexes and the mind of a tactician. John shuddered at the sight of his own father; his human mother was leaning on the side of the throne, eyeing John suspiciously.
“So,” started Lord Drakan, “what is it that you want Prince John?”
“Lord Drakan, I am hear to warn you of impending danger to the entire world.”
Lord Drakan’s pointed ears twitched, “Who told you of this danger?”
