Accepting and returning the hug from Flynn, Ariadne couldn’t help but smile a bit more at his compliments. While she didn’t care much for the opinions of the nobility, hearing that what she had done had produced results in a place where it might matter made her proud, and having it come from one of her siblings just made it a little bit better.

Oh, they’re all fantastic at holding grudges.
” was her own low, virtually inaudible comment to what Flynn said. She already knew the two of them would likely get similar receptions, even if the negativity was for different reasons.

And indeed they did, most expressions either neutral or as negative as such a setting would allow. However, the sulking expressions of those she’d put in their place was something she actually did not mind seeing, as it meant she was doing something right. The nobles and high society weren’t the ones that she cared about, at least not before the people of the kingdom were taken care of, and if they were angry at her for caring for the people whose lives they were supposed to be watching over then they didn’t deserve what they had.

Adrienne, of course, was better received, which was of no surprise to anyone. Her twin was much better at everything high society cared about, and it was good to see that they didn’t both have to have a path where they had no choice but to be disliked.

The fact that he brought up complaints, however, put Ariadne a bit on edge for a moment, as she had not expected this to be part of his greeting. Perhaps he had wanted to get it out of the way, as there was no doubt everyone here was aware of this fact, but it still felt…strange. She did not comment on it, though, instead opting to give her father a customary bow before moving back to allow the remainder to enter.

The announcement that brought momentary silence to the hall was one that all present should have expected, as it was quite clear the king was growing old and the naming of the heir was already an anticipated event. Still, it was strange to hear it said out loud, especially to start such an occasion. As for the following announcement, she was of a similar mind to Gallus, a disappointed sigh escaping her lips. She disliked being away for a pointless event such as this, and even though there was unlikely to actually be any problems while she was here it was certainly not her preferred venue.

Thus did she eventually find herself sitting off to the side, drink in hand as she kept an eye on the goings-on. Although she did not intend to lose her edge just now, a drink or three wouldn’t be a problem, as she had one of the higher tolerances out of those she was generally around. It usually took a great deal for her to end up deeply intoxicated, much to the dismay of many nobles that had intended to dull her senses using a dinner party and expensive liquor.

Chloelle pauses in her conversations as the King's voice rings through the throne room. At the news that this would be a seven day celebration, her warm smile grows a little more. One could only assume she was happy to hear they would be celebrating so much. It was only natural for one of her disposition to enjoy such things.

But as her eyes drift towards her sisters, the skin around her chartreuse eyes tightens only slightly, a sign of annoyance so subtle it could easily be missed if you did not know her very well.

"Your brother doesn't look as scary as the rumours say,"
one of the ladies surrounding Chloelle comments. Chloelle glances back at her, before chuckling softly.

"I have many brothers. But I think I can guess who you mean,"
she answers gently, looking in the direction of Flynn.
"I suppose his power can seem quite daunting. I assure you he is not all that bad. Please excuse me."

She turns away as the music fills the room, delicately picking her way through the hall - making a clear beeline towards Flynn.

"Brother, the dancing will not begin until we start it. Won't you be my partner for the first dance?"
She asks pleasantly, holding out her hand towards him.

Adrienne was prepared, albeit disappointed, for her older twin’s rather lukewarm reception. Ariadne had never been especially popular in the court. She wasn’t particularly disliked, really – the court was just quite set in its ways and Ria frequently rocked that system. It was beneficial, in the end, with the military in much better fighting shape than before she took control. However, no one liked being told they were wrong, and even less that they had to step aside for a young elf.

When she was summoned, her list of titles were called across the room. Of course she had selected them as she wanted to highlight her accomplishments without indulging too deeply in vanity. Adrienne stepped her way through the throne room, nodding gracefully at the cheering faces as she passed by. Soon, she was standing in front of the king alongside her twin.

The king’s comments clearly put Ria on edge – the empath knew her twin well enough by now to tell, even without her power – but as he turned to face Rie, she wasn’t surprised to hear a rather dismissive compliment. He bade them to go join the festivities, which Ariadne responded to by moving back. Adrienne followed her lead. There was no point situating herself with another group of people before all of the royals were introduced, since there’d be very little chance for speaking until all were announced.

Once the king finished greeting the elf’s younger siblings, he proclaimed that he’d be announcing an heir. Unfortunately, he also announced that the heir would be announced in a week’s time. Adrienne smiled politely and clapped at this, but she knew that would just mean more work for her and her sisters over time. After all, seven days of drunken celebrating amongst the nobles? More than one diplomatic incident was likely to crop up, not to mention the monetary cost of funding it, as well as the security needed to contain the debauchery.

As the seas of people parted, Adrienne found herself drifting back toward Princess Evvie.

The Young Princess surely had stories of her time away – how she avoided recognition, what caused the scars…

“Sister, now that we’re in a better place for discussion,”
Rie said,
“Would you care to share some of your stories? Where did you go all this time? And, more than that, how did you know to come back?”

Chloelle's approach didn't go unnoticed by Flynn, the prince's gaze falling upon the graceful motions of his sibling as she wove through the crowd towards him. He managed another generous sip of mead before she reached him with an outstretched hand and an invitation, Flynn's eyebrow raising even as he set aside his cup.

" Looking to embarrass your brother on his first day back home? How low you've fallen, Chlo, " He replied with obvious amusement, taking her offered hand without hesitation and leading them towards the open floor. " But rest assured dear sister, I've not let old Madam Hotchins' lessons fall completely by the wayside. "

"Dear brother, would I ever do such a thing? You've so little faith in me!"
Chloelle answers with a laugh, allowing him to lead her onto the dance floor.
"Fear not - if you do struggle, we can also practise another time to polish up your skills."

Taking the centre of the floor, the secondborn Scion keeps her hand in his, raising her free hand to rest it upon his shoulder. For the moment, they are the only two on the dance floor. Some odd looks cast her way did not pass by Chloelle's notice - though it was likely it was due to her choice of partner than anything else. The sound slowly begins to die down, making way for the chosen melody that begins to play for the sake of the dance.

Chloelle begins to move with Flynn in time to the music - her steps light and lively, her skirts billowing out and catching the surrounding light in the myriad of gems and sparkles that dot across each layer. She never seemed so relaxed as when she danced. She smiles up at Flynn with warmth radiating from those chartreuse eyes that seemed so open and innocent.

Slowly - taking their cue from the royal siblings - other couples began to take to the dance floor, allowing Chloelle and Flynn enough space in the middle to capture attention, but giving them company whilst those less inclined to dance looked onwards from the edges of the throne room.

Evalyne saw looks of shock and bewilderment as she entered the throne room. She recognized much of the nobility in attendance. They stared at her with a strange intensity, as if trying to discern how she could be here from her appearance alone. Perhaps it was the new scars. Some few were old friends, probably come to terms with her disappearance. Others, she knew, despite their exceptional decorum, would be less than pleased with her return. They would both have to come to terms with it.

When she got to the throne, she curtsied, as was customary. When she looked up, she was surprised to see that the king had come down from the throne, and she was even more surprised when he brought her in for a hug. After a moment of hesitation, she returned it warmly. The he addressed the crowd, which broke into cheers at the proclamation of her return, and she smiled, as much to herself as to others, as the king gave her directions to join the festivities. There were other siblings to announce; she could have a more personal encounter with the king later.

Flynn spoke to her, plain, as if the distances of the past years held no more import on their relationship than the weather. The smile Flynn had sent just before must have been genuine. Eva grinned in return.
"We'll see later whether he approves of mine. When I get a moment I'll be sure to head your way; I'm sure to need a break at some point tonight."
She giggled,
"I've got seven year's worth of misery to catch up on!"

He stepped over to the side, and she to another side as the rest of the scions were called. The new one, Reyner, seemed inscrutable, which was interesting. They would both somewhat be outsiders today, though in different ways. When she got a chance, she would have to meet him. After they had finished the procession, she could see the nobles looking her way, wanting to go over and speak with the returned Princess but none wanting to be the first to do so. She did notice someone's approach though - her sister Adrienne, emerging from the crowds.

"I've been on what some might call adventures, certainly, but I've mostly been living a quiet life off in Reyalia. I came back when I noticed all the scions returning to the capital. Roland returns often, Flynn rarely; both together? Never. I had to come!"

" What better a time to catch up than when I'm stumbling over my own feet? " Came Flynn's rhetorical reply, his free hand finding its place resting lightly upon Chloelle's waist as they found their spot on the centre of the floor - the notes of the last song drifting away to be replaced by the swell of music that better fit the steps of a traditional dance.

Despite his time away from the capital it became clear that the prince had not lied - flowing into the movements with the same confidence he'd exuded walking into the throne room itself, his steps not as light or lively as his sister's but instead resolute and impassioned. His coat flowing back in the movements almost as a reflection of Chloelle's billowing skirts, yet where she caught the light he seemed to catch only the shadows of the room that cast a darkness over half his face - but it was only that, a shadow, as the smile he returned matched the warmth of his sibling's eyes.

Soon enough they were not alone as others took to the floor, spreading outwards from the central pair like a plague through a body - but perhaps less morbid. With attention spreading out, the swell of both music and clicking heels filling the air, it seemed like an opportune time to speak without a world of eavesdroppers listening.

" I've heard news and rumours aplenty about all of you in my time away, " He spoke with a slightly lowered tone to grant some measure of privacy over the conversation, his movements unperturbed by the need to now split his focus. " But news and rumours leave countless things unsaid and, quite frankly, a lot of horseshit to sift through. " Flynn chuckled, fixing his sister with a look. " Tell me Chlo, how have you been all this time? "
