Daralt

The diplomat said nothing when the guards allowed her through the gates and continued to be silent throughout her escort to the palace. She could tell that this was the capital of the Sorusian Empire; everything was architecturally beautiful, especially the palace that she eventually reached. She had to admit – although it pained her to do so – that Daralt was even more fascinating and attractively built than Morriford, as pleasing on the eye as the capital of Rournic* already was.

Her group of bodyguards stopped at the entrance and she handed over her flagpole/spear, steel dagger and also her green and white painted wooden shield which had been strapped to her back. The escort informed her that the Emperor would soon be present and she nodded in acknowledgment. The room was very nice, quality paintings hung on the wall of previous emperors which the diplomat took time to study as she waited.

When Emperor Cidius II arrived, she gave a small curtsy before speaking,
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, I did not know whether I would be meeting with you or a messenger,” this was true, it was a slight shock that the Emperor himself turned up to meet her, in a way she felt honoured despite the fact the man was widely hated.
“I would like to discuss the relationship between your great Empire and my own Kingdom. We both know of the war with the dwarves and there are fears the whole continent may be dragged into this war. I know not of the intentions of Dormoor but I would like to talk about the benefits my Kingdom may receive if we sided with you in this war. Of course, I am but a diplomat and cannot decide my Kingdom’s fate but the King will be informed of anything that we may gain out of this war.” She was hoping the Emperor would not hold back and be open and honest about the advantages of an alliance, rather than be wary of treachery or lies on the behalf of Rournic*. That is if he was for the idea at all?

The Meeting

It seemed the diplomat from Rournic* was being targeted a bit by King Horic and especially the gnome who accused him of being a fool or a coward. Of course, it wasn't even the diplomat's choice whether to join this alliance or not, he was only there to discuss terms and report back to the King.

"It is true that the Sorusians may turn their attentions west towards the Kingdom in time and that would suggest an alliance would be a good thing. However we must be sure it is strong enough and worth the losses in cost and also life. If the King believes the alliance would be worthwhile, I can assure you that he would be happy to pledge forces to an offensive movement and by that I mean a full on attack on Sorusian armies, cities and castles. We may not be able to offer as much in terms of skirmishing as King Eodis, for example, but we have a strong and large army to put to use." The diplomat explained. A long speech, but he felt he had to defend himself after the previous comments.

The Meeting

"We have our own plans for Cidius, but that is something we can talk about once we get to him." King Horic said to Telperion, pleased that there was another person fully dedicated to a frontal assault in the room. He knew little of Telperion's nation in truth, and had heard both some good things and bad things. The bad things could just rumours, but the good things could just be propaganda. He wasn't entirely sure.

Eodis had gone silent, presumably because he wasn't going to press the argument any more when the host of the meeting had already disagreed with him. Could Horic trust him? He didn't know much about the Grays either, other than they were very warlike, but could they hold back from brutality? The **ivoth King spoke with no regard for the innocents his plan would be killing. But they also needed every ally they could get...

"We have gone over the advantages than an alliance can give." King Horic finally said, looking at everyone in the room. "As well as the threat the Sorusians pose. If anyone else in the room wishes to pledge their support and has the authority to do so, or wishes to state any other concerns, please do it now." It would be clear that the meeting was nearing its end.

Asindia

"Before we go into details, I would just like to address something." The diplomat began, taking a seat at the table. "I know that our empire does not have a good reputation. I would ask that you please keep an open mind, as there are two sides to every story, and not judge us purely on what you have heard from other races."

"Anyways, you are correct in your assumption that this is a military alliance. Emperor Cidius wishes to unite all humans under one banner, much like his father. Unlike his father, however, he wishes to go about it in a more diplomatic manner."

"After that we may establish our control over other races, like the dwarves to the southeast or those barbarians that dwell in the mountains. By doing so, we will create a lasting peace across Karrus." The diplomat explained. It sounded like a good offer, really - continent-wide peace with thehumans in charge. The question was, would it be enough to convince them?

The Tanik Forest

Hearing the urgency in the small creature's voice, Captain Darius accepted the coin. He took some time to examine it, before closing his palm around it but not pocketing it. But the Beta's words: "very bad" stuck with him, and soon the rustling of trees could be heard.

Darius's hand lowered to the hilt of his sword, not quite touching it but close enough to easily pull it out. His lieutenant and the men at the front followed his lead. Unlike the rest of the men, both officers had their swords at their right hips instead of the left as another way to distinguish their ranks. "Who is watching us?" He asked the creature, with mild suspicion in his voice. It was loud enough for whoever was watching him to hear.

Daralt

An odd look came across Cidius's face for a brief second. The Kingdom of Rournich, a lesser kingdom, had just sent an offer of an alliance all the way to the Sorus Empire just to ask what the Empire could do for them? Shouldn't it be her job to tell him what Rournic* can offer? They were the ones who came to him, after all.

"First I'd like to hear what the Kingdom of Rournic* can offer us." Cidius told her. He already knew, of course, but his pride demanded him to show her he was in charge for this meeting.

The Meeting

The Rournic* diplomat remarked that his people could potentiality be able to assist in an assault, and Eodis felt a bit better to have been mentioned. Not that he really knew anything about large-scale warfare, let alone the leaders and their homelands, but he figured it wouldn't be difficult to attack an empire.

The Dwarven king and the Gnomic king shared an offensive attitude in the battle plan. Somewhat rebuked by the host, King Eodis decided to be quiet for a while, his reddish eyes briefly scanning his surroundings. He respected the host's authority; this was his world. King Horic then spoke, mentioning that if any nation had any concerns or plans, now was the time.

Horic was concerned about the Grays' behavioral nature, could they really be taken on a long-term campaign? If so, perhaps it was best to make sure they remained far away from the main army, however, that would make them harder to control. Or, maybe, the Grays could be kept close, and simply given some sort of stimulant after a battle to calm them down.

( In Asindia, diplomats mention that the Sorusian Empire may allude to a possible attack into the “barbarians that dwell in the mountains*, if this refers to the Grays, they'd be caught by surprise, as they've never been invaded by a real army before. )

Tanik Forest – Retaliation

22 out of 30 Grays managed to escape the Goeracks, for now, which they found surprising; they expected a pursuit. Perhaps the Goeracks let them flee? The Grays neared the edge of the woods, but were still within the forest boundary. The Grays slowed their pace, panting, some limping. Six were seriously wounded with blunt force trauma, or suffering from sprained or cracked necks or limbs when the Goeracks tried to rip them apart. Some of them grunted or snorted, upset that they suffered some casualties and did not gain anything.

“Uliyor, why did you charge the red ape?” The Gray captain asked aloud, adjusting his bone-armour.

“I think he's dead, he's not here.” A female Gray replied, the same female who spoke last time.

“Oh that idiot, he should've not picked a fight with those giant red monkeys, not when we're spread apart and didn't know how many there were." The Gray captain continued, sitting on a log to catch his breath, ripping a handful of grass form the ground and chewing on it.

"What's with these weird logs put all over the place? It looks like they were dragged.” A Gray remarked, but no-one cared.

“Heh, Uliyor, he was a little crazy.” An older Gray mumbled.

“Ya, and now I lost my langseax because of him.” The skeleton-armoured Griv(c)oth whined, looking for a scapegoat.

The Grays sat down or leaned against trees, most of them disgruntled about losing, but there was nothing they could do. The captain suddenly shot to his three-toed feet.

“Hey! Everyone, start a fire." The captain barked.

“Why? I'm tired.” A Gray whined.

“Shut up and do it!”

The Grays, except the captain, each gathered a bunch of dried grass, clustering it into a ball mixed with twigs and bits of pinecones. They put these little spheres on the ground. Taking a long, straight, thin stick, they put one end against a dry log and, keeping the stick between their hands, and by rolling the stick side to side, drilled against the log, until the friction created a tiny ember.

They pinched the smoking ember and put it into their cluster of dried grass, gently blowing into them, until smoke appeared steadily. They then shook the cluster strongly side to side, until the tiniest flame sparked to life. One by one, the Grays had tiny fires building in their hands.

“See that dead pine tree over there? You half, start a fire around its trunk, build it with sticks leaning against it. Once the fire reaches its branches, the fire will spread to its top, and then spread to the other trees. You half, let's make a bonfire under that redwood, its branches are very low. Let's make a big bonfire." The captain said, and they started just that.
