“Why is he doing such a thing now, then?” grumbled Usha.
“Well, we are dealing with the Monolith,” replied Ece. Now that Agapo had vanished, she had regained her bubbly personality, and was happily skipping through the snow.
“Aren't you chipper today?” grumbled Usha.
“Yes Ece is!” the girl replied happily.
“Sorry, to interrupt, but someone's coming,” Aion muttered.
“Who?” asked Usha, turning around.
Jen and Ece did likewise, and shortly were able to make out two figures walking toward them across the snow.
“Wait a minute...” gasped Jen, “That one looks like...”
“It's Alex,” finished Aion.
“Your companion?” asked Usha.
“Yep,” replied Aion, “Looks like he made it too... I don't recognize the other one though.”
“He must have helped Alex,” said Jen, “Well, what are we waiting for? Alex! Over here!”

From a distance, Alex and Chris had noticed the small group, and had discussed whether they were allies or enemies. Upon hearing Jen's voice, though. Alex broke into a smile.
“That's Jen,” he said.
“Who?” questioned Chris, a slight edge in his voice as he did so.
Alex rolled his eyes, “An old childhood friend, come on, I'll introduce you. Oh, and lighten up will you?”
“Sure,” sighed Chris, “This journey's getting on my nerves is all... Oh, and she better thank me.”
“For what?” asked Alex.
“Saving your sorry hide when you fell into that river,” replied Chris.
“Oh come on!” protested Alex, “Didn't I thank you enough for that already?”
“You did, but she didn't,” replied Chris, “The way I see it, she owes me big time for saving her childhood friend.”
With this statement, Alex began laughing.
“Hey, what's so funny?” asked Chris.
“Ah...” gasped Alex, calming himself down, “It's just... it seems you finally came out of your shell, Chris. It's nice to see you showing your real personality instead of being so guarded all the time.”
“Well, don't get used to it!” exclaimed Chris.
“Well, aren't we demanding?” asked Alex.

“You said you wanted to me to show my real personality, didn't you?” asked Chris teasingly, “What if I happen to just be a demanding person?”
“Well, you two could have contests of your stubborn wills,” suggested Aion, materializing between the two boys.
“Woah!” shouted Alex, falling back, “Who the heck are you?”
“Don't remember me?” asked Aion, “Maybe this will help?” With a snap of his fingers, Aion reverted to his child form, and was once again covered in dirt and clad in old, oversized sailor clothes.
“Aion?!” questioned Alex.
“You know him?” asked Chris, helping Alex up.
“He's our cabin boy...” said Alex.
“Humans,” sighed Aion, “So quick to judge by appearances.” With another snap of his fingers, Aion reverted to his teenaged form and was wearing clothes as white as the surrounding snow once more.
“So what are you?” asked Alex, “If you're not human?”
“He's a construct,* said Usha as she and Jen reached the boys.
“Hekate?!” the boys shouted in unison.
“I see you've met my twin sister,” laughed Usha, “She must of given you two a hard time.” Looking over Chris, then Alex, she added, “Actually, I imagine she was especially hard on you two...”
“Not nearly hard enough if you ask me,” said Jen, punching Alex playfully, “Don't run off again, you idiot.”
“Heh, sorry Jen,” replied Alex, “But hey, nothing happened to me, right? Well... nothing bad...*
*I don't know,” mused Chris, “Let's see... Hekate was pretty bad, oh, and you nearly died of hypothermia...”
“What?!” exclaimed Jen.
“Oh yeah... fell into the river,” said Alex, “Silly me.”
“You fell... into the Cocy*us, and survived?” questioned Usha.
“Well, I kinda owe Chris for that one,” admitted Alex, “He fished me out and saved me.”
“How did he fish you out of...” Usha trailed off as she looked at Chris. “Oh...” she muttered.
“Just noticed?” asked Aion.
“Shut up,” replied Usha, *It's been a while, besides... he's...”
Aion nodded and mouthed a word none only Usha seemed to understand.

“Well, anyway,” said Usha, “Nice to have you on board with us. We seem to be nearing the legendary capital of the Prantiqeth, only a little further, and we should see it, right, Aion?”
“Maybe...” said Aion.
“Maybe?” asked Alex.
“All the other areas had guardians...” commented Aion, “But... I don't sense a guardian in this land...”
“Maybe it's already been defeated?” suggested Jen.
Aion shook his head. “No,* he said, “Something is odd up ahead... I sense a magic that feels very familiar... Usha...*
*I though I was imagining it,” replied Usha, “But there's no doubt in my mind... there's definitely a powerful latent spell up ahead, and it was definitely put there by Mephos.”
“Mepho*?!* exclaimed Chris and Alex together.
“You two know about him too?” asked Jen, wondering if somehow she was the only person who had missed out on hearing about this “Mephos” guy.
“He... or rather... one of his fragments stopped us from releasing a powerful demon,” explained Chris.
“Mephos has fragments here?” asked Usha, “Why would he do such a thing?”
“Whatever the reason,” commented Ece, “The city will answer all.”
“Um, who is this?” asked Alex.
“Her name is Ece,” replied Usha, “She... joined us recently...”
“Chris?” said Ece.
“Um, do I know you?” asked Chris.
“If one could change their race, would the price be worth it?” asked Ece.
“What the heck is that supposed to mean?” asked Chris.
“Yes or no?* asked Ece.
“Um... yes?” asked Chris.
“Ece knew you thought that!” exclaimed the girl, “Now, on to Levia- er, um, meow?”
Alex turned to Jen and asked “Um, Jen, is Ece...”
“Completely out of her mind?” asked Jen, “Yes, yes she is...”
“And she's traveling with you?” asked Alex.
“You want to tell her she can't?” asked Jen, “And before you answer, you should see how she fights.”
“Um... okay,” gulped Alex.
“Let's go!” shouted Ece, running forward, jumping and sliding a few feet on her belly, then getting up and repeating the process.

“What have we gotten ourselves into?” asked Alex.

“Good to see you again, my Lord.”
Agapo turned to Monica and smiled. “Well done,” Agapo said, “You handled the plant excellently. Oh, and good work, clouding their memories and walking off while they were focused on the phoenix. Although, it was unnecessary to call my attention to they're reaching of the frozen lands, I was already waiting.”
“Of course, my Lord,” replied Monica, “As you know...”
“You contacted me as a courtesy, and I do appreciate it,” finished Agapo.
“Naturally,” replied Monica, “I doubt it would be possible for the true Great Lord, the Absolute, to be unaware of such a group reaching these lands.”
“You should be more careful when you say things like that,” said Agapo, “You never know who is listening.”
“Of course, my Lord,” said Monica, “But I must ask, why did you personally get involved? You tend to refrain from directly intervening in this world.”
“Ah, actually, the reason I got involved now was so that I didn't have to get involved again until the end,” replied Agapo.
“What do you mean by that, my Lord?” asked Monica, “Surely you don't intend to get involved when they reach the city?”
“Not the end of this adventure,” replied Agapo, “The end-game if you will... The time for the gods of Gielinor to be judged, and for humans to decide the fate of this world once and for all.”
“Judgment weighed upon the gods?” asked Monica, “So now it comes to Gielinor as well... that which was begun two millenia ago.”
“Yes,” replied Agapo, “Zaros must return to Gielinor for this purpose. He and his followers believe that he is returning to Gielinor to rule anew... the truth is, he is returning to receive judgment in the land his empire was built in.”
“But, does not Gielinor have it's own judge already?” asked Monica.

“Armadyl does not have the authority to judge the gods,” replied Agapo, “He was sent as a herald, long ago, to teach the Law. He taught it to both gods and mortals, to the former as the lowest of equals, to the latter, as a judge, made higher only by the authority of the one who appointed him.
Nor does he have the right to sentence the gods. For the sins and good works of the gods are visited primarily upon mortals, and the authority to judge the gods lies only with a higher god. Therefore, it shall be a god greater than those of Gielinor, who pronounces judgment upon the other gods, and it shall be mortals who decide what the sentence is based on the verdict that is given.”
“When will this start?” asked Monica.
“It already has,” replied Agapo, “Bandos' judgment has been given; even now he prepares to return to Gielinor... he is planning to start the final war, however, he will not succeed. WE have made our decree; for using mortals as pawns in war after war, Bandos will receive his sentence from the weakest of those who were once his followers... the first who freed themselves from his rule.”
“When will this happen?” asked Monica.
“Before the year is over,” replied Agapo, “Already, the events are in motion... they cannot be stopped any longer.
But that is enough of serious matters for now. You've done well, so you should take a vacation. Ardougne is good this time of year. Then again, All Hallow's Eve is coming up, so Niflheim is a good choice too, and Ginnungagap is always lively.”
“You're seriously offering me a vacation, aren't you?” laughed Monica, “Honestly, you go from talking about judgment being delivered against the gods to asking me to choose a vacation destination in the same breath, how do you do it?”
“S-E-C-R-E-T,” laughed Agapo, “Now come on, choose.”
“Hah, let me think about it,” said Monica.

“Well, for when you're done, the inn you're staying at is called Lungald Inn, your room is penthouse three, and your personal attendant's name is Nuih,” said Agapo.
“Abusing your precognition again, my Lord?” asked Monica, smiling as she did so.
“I have it so I can use it,” Agapo replied playfully.
“Very well, Niflheim's all Hallow's Eve and Samhain festivals it is,” said Monica.
“One portal to Niflheim, coming up,” Agapo responded, “They're expecting you, of course, and don't worry about the bill, it's been covered.”

So I knew my theory would turn out correct. You add a lot less when I am not here to kick you into doing it. Funny that is, but perhaps it is because I am one of your first readers loyal to you to the very end. Honestly I just wish you would write a book so I could pick it up, read it without stopping at all no matter how much sleep I was deprived of, and then be quite satisfied I finished the sacred destiny series which you started writing like five years ago. Funny how time flies like that, pity it doesn't go for any leisurely strolls.
I look forward to more adds, but I have the patience to wait for them. You're stuck with him until you finish the series buddy, even if I have to hunt you down and force it from your mind. Muhahaha. I plan on rereading everything during thanksgiving break, if I don't manage to then I will surely do so during Christmas break(which is five weeks long this year as opposed to the three we got last year!)

After the two groups had joined, the mood of the journey seemed to entirely shift. Jen, Alex and Chris began to talk to each other excitedly, relating what had happened themon the journey, before Alex and Jen exchanged stories about their lives before this crazy adventure with Chris, who, in turn, told them some small tidbits of his life, being careful to leave out mention of the Kinshra as he did so.
While the three of them entertained themselves in this way, Aion and Usha held back, watching bemusedly in a way very similar to how parents behave while their kids are socializing. Aion's maturity seemed especially out of place, as he had returned to his childish form, and for all the world looked to be no older than ten... all save his eyes which shone with wisdom far beyond his apparent age.
“Refreshing, isn't this?” asked Usha, as she watched the teenagers pull ahead of her and Aion. “It's nice to not feel like we're about to be ambushed for once.”
“Yeah,” replied Aion, “Especially given what's ahead.”
“Yep,* answered Usha, staring ahead in thought. “Lucky for us, those three couldn't detect an ender-spell spell go off unless they could see it.”
“It's strange though, isn't it?” asked Aion, “The magic ahead seems to have saturated the land entirely... I guess that would be expected of the Monolith being used, but it's not as chaotic as I supposed.”
“I know,” answered Usha softly, “It's like someone's using it, but I can't say for what... And it's certain that those Prantiqeth aren't aware of this, or they'd throw a fit.”
“But, I don't think anyone actually has the Monolith,” commented Aion, “So, it's more likely someone set it up to do something and left it there... But in order to do that, you'd have to use one heck of a magic circle.”
“I know of seven people who could make such a thing,” said Usha, “And on top of that, one of them was definitely here... he's made a point of it."
