As if to confirm his thoughts, a blood red fire engulfed the Zarosian, who shut his eyes, and prepared to feel the last pains of his life. To his surprise, the fire did*’t burn, and after a few moments, Taiyama dared to open his eyes. The fire had vanished, and to his relief, so had the fireballs that had been pelting him and Jayson. A moment’s longer investigation revealed that the entire hall was cracked and burnt, and although two magma pools were still present, none of the magical traps appeared to be active. Furthermore, the mage was now standing behind a collection of vanishing shards of blue light and a second, cracked magical shield.
“The jerk had two shields!* exclaimed Taiyama.
While the Zarosian stared in shock, he realized that he was now being pulled toward what he had previously thought was the ceiling. With a little bit of skill he managed to flip, landing on his feet as gravity took hold once more, and dodging the magma which fell from the pools on the ceiling.
“Did you really need to do this to my castle?” a voice Taiyama did*’t recognize asked. The Zarosian turned around to see Orcris, Rose, a boy in black robes, a lady in red, short robes, and a man in a black suit.
“Orcris!” Taiyama exclaimed in relief.
Orcris nodded in recognition, then turning to the mage said, “I thought as much. So you and ‘he’ are one and the same.”
“Took you long enough to figure it out, Orcris,” sighed the mage.
*I admit, it shouldn’t have taken this long,” commented Orcris, “But, disregarding that, this is really you, not some puppet, isn’t it? In that case, hold still, and I’ll make this painless, in recognition of your kindness from before.” So saying, Orcris drew his sword and charged.
“I’m afraid I must decline your offer of death,” said the mage as he jumped back into a new portal, “Maybe next time, Orcris?” A moment later, the mage had vanished, and the walls on either side of the portal exploded, collapsing the way further in.
