In the Tenedra Marsh, the Zarosians had once again run into an impediment; a large, foreboding fortress built in the midst of the swamp. The windows of which shined with a greenish glow, marred only by the occasional movement.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Ruko groaned.
“You say that a lot,” sighed Jayson, having grown used to the warlock making this same exclamation every time some new challenge appeared. “You know, this really isn’t a surprise.”
“Honestly, I wouldn’t care if this fortress had sprouted from the ground in front of our very eyes!* exclaimed Weva, “Odds are, the Mists are inside, and as such, we must find a way in.”
“You’re probably right,” said Taiyama, “But do you have an idea as to HOW we are to do that?”
Jayson grasped his amulet and closed his eyes, apparently deep in thought. Suddenly, his eyes snapped open and he shouted, “The foundation!”
“What?” asked Weva.
“I see,” said Taiyama, “This is a marsh, so the ground isn’t really firm enough to support the weight of a fortress, at least not if it is built by traditional means. In other words, the only way to build something like this is-“
“Magic!” Ruko interrupted, “Which means that the fortress is probably enchanted to have a type of buoyancy, making it “float” if you will, on the spongy ground, and thus there are no underground structures. In other words, if we can go underground, we can get into the fortress, or at least past the walls.”
“One problem,” Taiyama pointed out, “This is a marsh, if we try to build a tunnel, it would fill with water almost immediately.”
“A tunnel?!” exclaimed Ruko, laughing, “Oh isn’t that cute! Have you forgotten, Taiyama, I am a warlock with a multitude of demons at my beck and call! In fact I have just the one to help us in this situation!
Oh demon which claweth under the earth,
Thou demon, who poisons the land, bringing dearth,
To me make haste and now do rise,
Grant me power, and my enemies, demise!*
