These poor, decrepit defenses... They had a sledgehammer taken to them, its pounding bring forth the truth. Admitting to herself the veracity she had long feared, ripping herself up as she mumbled it. Just as Raphael had told her, every blow dealt to the Resistance this past year could have been prevented if she only acted.

The people who died, and the people who live would not had to have felt that suffering brought only by death. As she sat there and thought, she came to another conclusion. Yes, she found that there was no way to justify her actions, her cowardice. She let every single one of those people whom she claimed to care for, die.

She could have changed their fates if she merely intervened. But no, she hid in her room, surrounded by the walls of deception. She pushed out a lamentful breath, then fixed her stolid eyes up to the sky. Yes... perhaps she was equally to blame for their deaths as the one who actually committed the acts.

She didn't deserve this, she didn't deserve to be here. No, she didn't belong here, she realized. This couldn't be her home anymore, she was a Solasúian -- just that god -- a being that so many feel burdened to be around. She had caused so many pain and misery, brought death to this town like multiple plagues, and had failed in her duty to protect Uriel, her brother.

The more she thought, the more she stabbed at herself. She burned, falling faster than she could make alibis. She had to remove this farce, end this leading role in this distorted film she had acted for. And she stabbed herself some more, tearing a hole in her heart. Then she bled, profusely. She wept, bleeding herself dry.

The priest then held out a bell the size of his head, ringing that death knell. To that bell that tolled, the sound that eerily hung around, Elena stood up to her feet. She knew exactly what she had to do... stepping into a new chapter of life. Whether that step was backward or forward was unclear, all she knew was that she had to move onward.

She traveled to her room quickly, her mind set certain yet doubtful. Her hand moved as swiftly as she could, gathering together only the stuff she'll need. Outside her window, the funeral carried on. She knew she had to move, and fast. The town of Lumbridge deserted of people, them all being at the funeral. It was perfect, no one would know.

She made her way through the town, standing now a few steps outside of its gate. She paused, feeling a flicker of her old self, a chain holding her back. She then stared back into that void, the image of that homestead appearing with detail upon her dull-blue eyes. She was agonized seeing the town of Lumbridge in her rear-view mirror, but she knew it was for the best.

As painful as it was, she knew she had to move on. Putting her left foot forward, she pulled her latching eyes away. She walked alone, stepping grew to be a pain with each bit of motion. Her heart ached greatly, battling with herself to keep going on. One side was winning against the other, but just barely. She showed no emotion as she walked, but it was clear to see that she struggled to fight back her tears.

The day marched on, Raphael having his chance to speak. He spoke inspiring words, and words that showcased his sadness. This burden he held, this worry he wore. He had to get rid of it, otherwise it would consume him from within. At the end of the funeral, Uriel had been laid to rest along with the others. Those of Lumbridge returned to their normal lives, though now they wore a extra burden upon their shoulders.

Raphael began climbing the ladder that led up to the top of the castle of Lumbridge. Step by step, he took slowly but fast enough that she'd know he was coming. He had thought all day about what to say to her, although he knew deep within himself that there was nothing he could do to absolutely erase the terrible things he said to her.

He poked up, looking at where she usually was. "Hey, Elena, we need to..." he spoke the start of his words, but his voice stopped as soon as he noticed that she was not there. Well, maybe she's in her room, he hoped. Quickly, he made his way down the ladder. He then made his way down the stairs, and through the castle hallway to reach her room.

He knocked twice upon that door. "Elena, it's me," he said. "Can I come in? We need to talk."

He waited, and waited... Ten seconds would go by before he found himself too worried to just wait anymore. "I'm coming in!" Raphael warned, twisting the doorknob. He opened, revealing the room to him. "Elena?"

This was more than enough to start making Raphael get very, very uneasy. Apprehension had begun to sink in, his purple eyes viewing a room without life. He then did a frantic sweep of the entire castle, looking down door to door for that black-haired woman. One room yielded nothing. The next, nothing. On to another, still nothing.

He asked around, nobody saw anything. He then searched all around town, asking anyone who gave a care. Still, there was not a single trace of her around. It was as if she disappeared off of the face of the earth, never to be seen or heard from ever again. He had spent a fair amount of hours looking for her, the afternoon became the night.

He now found himself at the opening of the city, its very start. He stood at the gates, the place she was just hours prior. He scrolled his eyes all across the land, unable to find anything of her. But then he found himself staring forward, his eyes going on the same path as hers. And it was strange, finding himself to envision her walking down that way.

This injured him by a exceptional margin, pounding his fist against the stone gates. "Dammit!" he angrily yelled to himself. "Elena... what I have done?" He didn't realize it, but Elena was already far gone...

It had been a day or two since then, finding her eyes gazing up upon that familiar castle, those familiar walls. She stepped further, feeling her soul fracture just a little with each step. It was within the dark hour, night falling down upon this world. Balor found himself in his room, staring out his window. His deep-blue eyes detailing every inch of his empire, watching the sun set once more upon his city known as Governanti.

A cup of tea in his hand, he took a thoughtful sip as his mind wandered. She appeared in his mind, as she always did. It didn't matter to Balor her feelings about him, those things she said to him that day she was first brought back to Governanti. It was his duty as her brother to always and eternally love her, no matter what she thought of him.

Though his hand still shuddered at that thought of the day that he 'killed' her, shivering at the idea of even bring harm to her was a thought he simply could not digest. He could never forgive himself for that crime, it would be wore on him like a scar. His ears then caught the sound of two taps at his door, not bothering this king in his thought. "What is it?" Balor said to that person outside.

"My lord," spoke the voice from the person, whom sounded like Momus, on the other side of the door. "you have a visitor."

"I'll allow it," he permitted. The door then opened, Elena herself then walked into the room. She turned to her uncle, respectfully bowing to him. The door was then closed, leaving the two siblings together again. Elena walked forward, coming into the view of Balor's window as a reflection. The king's face reacted to seeing her reflection, for a moment thinking his eyes were deceiving him.

Upon that image, a bright, warm smile. Placing his cup of tea down on a table beside him, he slowly turned around to truly determine if this really was just him eluding himself. He then saw her, she was no illusion. Her smile and her beauty were all real, not some crazed deception. "L-Lucia...?" he named, stunned by her presence.

"Hello, brother," her gentle voice then greeted him.

"Why are you here?" Balor wondered. "Why aren't you in Lumbridge?"

"I've changed my mind," the archer answered honestly. "I wish to fight for you, for the Imperial Kingdom of Governanti."

"But I thought you disagreed with the dream?"

"I've thought long and hard," she returned to him. "I wanted so desperately to follow in father and mother's footsteps, but I've come to the realization that I cannot fight fate. I do not belong in a rebellion of humans, I belong here, as queen of the kingdom I was born to rule."

"That is truly what you believe?" he then asked. "We can alter our dream, you know. We can spare the humans, if you wish."

Elena shook her head. "Why would I tamper with something that's already so perfect?" she then responded.

He was so elated to hear her say that. He didn't care anymore, he simply was just happy to have his sister back with him. Balor then embraced his sister, the one and only dear thing to him. "I'm so glad..." he wholeheartedly stated. "I'm so happy you're back."

Elena accepted his wrapping arms, pulling her arms around him. "I'm so glad to be back home," she then said, her smile real and true, yet masked her sorrow. Indeed, she made herself hollow, emptying out all that made her that lie, that lie called 'Elena.' She was no longer that archer, a second-in-command for a band of humans, calling themselves the "Resistance."

No... she was a noble, a highborn. She had a birthright to a throne made only for those born to rule. She was a princess, a queen-to-be. She was a woman in power, a guide to the future. Her dream as a person and her role as a queen was to create a perfect, picturesque world where war was a mere afterthought. A world of peace, freedom, and order.

She and her brother together, both born to claim this dream. She told herself this over and over as she held down her emotions, her care and love for the rebel capital.

But she felt despaired, feeling like a barren wasteland perfect for a war. Two sides, two very different coat of arms adorned their banners and surcoats. They waged their wars, the clashing of sword upon sinew created a chaotic scene. It would be left to the last two soldiers upon the field, both twins albeit very different. And only time could tell what this outcome would be.

"Me and my brother together, both born to claim this dream." she recited to herself, closing her teary eyes.

Page 67, last post, first sentence of third paragraph,
“He was like an eagle keeping watch over its children”
Maybe eaglets instead of children? No big deal, just a heads-up.

Ah, one hope of mine fulfilled. Another soul for Spirry’s circle of blackness.

Well, this was a good chapter, had a few twists. But yeah, just me popping by like I said a thousand times before. I was going to say a few things, but I’ll save it until the end of the story, so keep up the good work.

I don't know! I was afraid that it might've sounded like an overuse of a word in a single sentence. Eagle and eaglet are similar sounding, at least somewhat. Perhaps it was just me being silly. xD Ah well, I suppose it's no biggie.

Ohoho, it is just the beginning !

Ooo, now I'm intrigued. o: I'm curious as to what you have to say, but I guess it'll be a bit before I learn it. Anyway! As always, thank you very much for reading and for your time. I appreciate it.

Oh, you’re intrigued? Well, I was just going to say that the two monarchs both go through a lot of torment, and the princess is the one who submits to it, and then the prince lessens the consequences he planned for so long. Effectively opposites, the two change sides for a moment.

Occasionally, characters behave oddly, the most recent is the genius, which suggested to me that there is an evil force somewhere that has yet to make an appearance. A demon, maybe? Speaking of demons, on my last post when I mentioned the name Spirry, it was just a little fooling around about my own created dude, a demon lord who can possess people if they kill him. He can’t control them, but drives the victim to a constant nervous breakdown. I made a farfetched thought by assuming there was demonic possession going on, but I should have known better. It’s quite a cliché, at least in the past, not something you’d do I don’t think. There’s this thing about devils that make them awesome villains.

Another thing I noticed, that your stories generally do not have very many monsters or non-human characters. Considering the environment and tone, I would have added more involvement with monsters, but it’s just a suggestion.

On another random note, Japanese samurai also had daggers with thin, slim, stiff blades to puncture mail and fit into the gaps of armour. Sometimes, Japanese daggers had blades from spearheads. Oddly enough, katana fencing is strikingly similar to European longsword fencing.

Anyways, I think that’s all I wanted to say. I have a feeling a battle will appear near the end, maybe even an anti-god assault, but we’ll wait and see.

Oh, and although I never said this before, when I was reading an earlier story of yours, you mentioned afterwards (in a post about yourself) that you liked Christian rock but happened to be an atheist. That did make me pause for a second, it was pretty good, gave me a reminder never to generalise anything. It’s like how I’m Catholic, am deeply religious and faithful (despite the atheistic zeitgeist of today), and I can be much more blasphemous and a heavier critic than most atheists I know. True art in its purest form!
