Standing up, looking down, Calvin watched as the archer spiraled downwards. And in a sickening thud, the archer slammed into the ground. He laid there with limbs bent in ways they were never intended to go, twisted and contorted in a cruel, grotesque fashion like a broken doll. He was an egg dropped from that height, his body felt broken and splattered.

Calvin's eyes lingered there for a little while longer, watching the light of the archer's eyes fade to the dark. It was a grave task which this assassin was not fond of doing, but all of this was for her. Knowing that as truth, he performed his duty with the utmost devotion and willingness. Calvin turned away from the dead archer, looking to the barrels and the jack-in-the-box-like toy which attracted the archer's attention.

The assassin lightly smirked at the acknowledgement of his plan's coming together, stuffing the dragon back into the box and closing the door shut behind it. Finding peace with himself for his actions, Calvin's remorseful eyes then pushed past the dying archer. He turned out towards the inside of the city, able to looking down upon Ormemel in its entirety.

It was a massive undertaking for such a small band of rebels, concerning the usually laid-back assassin. Anxious of the whole ordeal, Calvin reached into his shirt through its collar. He pulled out something hidden under his shirt, an object hooked to a small, thin chain. It was a small horseshoe charm, a special one to Calvin in particular.

The assassin looked down upon his charm with heaviness weighing down his eyelids, vaguely and graciously recalling the days of old. It was a myriad of memories both good and bad, wondrous and terrible. He then put the charm to his lips, kissing it for good luck. Finding solace in it, Calvin put the charm back under his shirt and rekindled his focus.

He looked down the way previously walked: the southern wall of Ormemel. It stretched a fairly long distance, but the assassin could just vaguely make out as his clansmen followed him in his actions as planned. Libitina led the assassinations, being the first to thrust her blade into an unsuspecting victim.

She and her assassins appeared like shadows given form, sticking out as they scaled up the stone brink wall of contrasting color. And like the precise strike of a singular blade, the assassins began cutting down the archers in one fluid, synchronized motion. They burrowed their blades into the most vital points of their target, the suppressed cries of their victims filling the air.

It was a scene played out everywhere the eye looked, a tide of red washed over the shore of white. Performed at near perfect timing, a credit to the assassins' training and teamwork. Their motion so lucid, the archers literally had no idea what was happening. Alike the many other assassins, Kereske stood faithfully at Libitina's side.

Behind his victim, he targeted the archer's neck. He aimed his dagger slightly downwards, trying to swerve around the nasal helmet which partially protected the archer's neck. Kereske's dagger chewed through the archer's chainmail, tearing asunder the tie between the archer and his body. The archer knew not how to think, how to feel, but only the morbid thought of his own demise coming to form.

Kereske's brown eyes then turned forward, gazing upon an archer who took notice of his actions. Her eyes watched on in horror as the very shroud of death draped over her and her allies, bearing witness to the death of each and every person she knew quite well. She reached desperately for her horn, she had to tell everyone what was happening here.

But even her hand wasn't fast enough to link her lips to her only salvation, feeling a terrible, acute pain at the back of her head. The sickening sensation of a blade bore through the base of her skull, severing her brain stem. A callous assassin named Libitina stood right behind her, her hand clenching the dagger which struck the archer down. She quickly pulled the dagger out, then cradling the archer in her arms to lay her down upon the ground.

Upon their attacks, the assassins gently laid the bleeding bodies of the archers to rest, paying respect and taking note of their sacrifice. Furthermore, there were a few assassins going around the walls, going up to any lantern which used eternal sunflies as a light source. The assassins opened those lanterns up, releasing the sunfly out from their prison.

Being at the top of these walls, the assassins kept themselves down so they didn't arouse too much suspicion. They all stood over the bodies of their fallen prey, some of them still weakly drawing breath. The first part of the infiltration appeared successful, but they needed confirmation of this. Libitina then bolted for the nearest archer's tower, speeding off faster than a person could blink.

Once she found herself before a tower, her body then began to take flight. She quickly scaled up the tower's walls, so high that she felt she could reach up and grasp the moon. She closed her eyes, focusing her senses entirely upon her eyes. She then boldly pushed them open, able now to very clearly make out every detail that made the city.

Upon a thoroughly sweep of the entire city, she could find nothing out of the ordinary. She could make out patrol, soldiers in steel speaking to another. Once finished with visual look, she prioritized her sense of hearing, finding a vast city filled with so many different noises and voices. They all were put before her in a plethora of different volumes, drawing a map of the city, each sound the ink to help paint the picture.

Soundwaves bouncing off surfaces helped determine the mass of an object, the sound of footsteps helped determine the patrol. She heard their voices, but they did not speak in a tongue of alarm or fear. With this piece of information, the callous assassin could believe that the cries of the archers have gone unheard.

It appeared that their invasion had begun in earnest, and within secrecy. As she honed her ears in, she could eavesdrop upon entire conversations. "—Indeed," she heard one soldier say. "Before my family and I moved out here, I was in service as a Loyal Knight to His and Her Majesty. And I must confess, Queen Lucia is absolutely ravishing."

"You must be joking..." a soldier responded. "You're actually fond of that savage?"

"Shh!" the other soldier hissed in urgency. "You're going to end up on the gallows for saying such things!"

"There's no one else here to listen but the walls, and they cannot speak." the grumpy soldier returned. "I find it a difficult task to look at her as anything but a cutthroat, or even a despot. Clearly you were not among us when we assaulted this place, it was... cruel beyond words. She delighted in the violence, smiling as she slaughtered the humans. She did not flinch even to a man she was supposedly friends with, but instead threatened him! What does that say about our 'splendid' queen?"

It seemed the soldier went rather quiet after the other's words, able to hear as the crickets chirp. "...Well, I still find her attractive," the soldier finally replied, breaking the large gap of silence.

Libitina heard as their lips continued to produce chatter, chatter that was like pollution to the air. It was irrelevant, worthless, useless... The guards appeared oblivious of their intrusion, so she turned to her comrades for the next phase of the plan. She began to move in reverse, going back the way she came.

She quickly climbed down the walls of the tower, returning to her clan almost before they could realize she was gone. Her red-as-blood glowing eyes inspecting her clan, finding them turned to her with fire in their eyes. Everyone and everything appeared in good condition, so they turned their attention to the next portion of the plan.

The four guards at the gates, two on the inside and two on the outside. They wore armour in a slightly thicker quantity than the archers, but still they did not pose too much of a problem. They appeared somewhat drowsy, bombarded by an army of yawns. Or perhaps they were simply bored out of their skulls, not even conversation could kill the time.

Knowing that the next phase was ready to launch, Libitina turned to Kereske. "Do it," she ordered him. With a nod of his head, Kereske acknowledged his orders. He lifted his head, gazing up into a beautiful, starlit sky. He puckered up his lips slightly, placed the side of his right hand beside his mouth like a wall, and closed his eyes.

Just outside of gates stood a multitude of different trees, from the tall to the wide-spanning. Behind two of those trees were two archers awaiting word: Shinon and Shakir. They were ready, willing, and able, an arrow pulled back upon their flexible, well-crafted longbows. They made absolutely sure that not a part of them was exposed from behind their tree, lest the senses of the Solasúian soldiers would pick up on them and spell doom to their surprise attack.

An odd noise then rushed into their ears, catching their attention. It was the tweeting of a bird, echoing in this near-morning darkness. The soldiers looked to each other with confused expressions, raising an eyebrow. "What the...?" muttered one guard to the other, fixing their gazes up above.

But Shinon and Shakir knew exactly what this sound meant: it was the signal. They suddenly and swiftly pulled out from the cover of their trees, holding their bows up and out in front of them. They had to very quickly adjust to their target, making sure to put the tip of the arrow right where it needed to be. The soldiers immediately sensed this incoming threat to their lives, pulling their eyes down to locate its source.

But by the time they could locate the malicious force, it was too late. Their bodies were rammed with a foreign object forcing its way into them, an arrow penetrating through their trunk. The upper-center of their torso was the target, the bodkin point punching through the soldiers' chainmail and taking on their sternum.

One soldier fell down slowly onto a single knee, his face an agonizing grimace with teeth so bare he looked to be without lips. His hands upon the sight of this injury, his fingers gripped around the shaft which stuck out from his bleeding chest. The other soldier simply crash-landed upon his back, his jaw broken and eyes like a full moon.

The soldiers on the inside of the gate immediately spun their heads behind them the moment they heard the stomach-turning impact, unable to do anything for their dying comrades. Their eyes looked on helplessly, their ears were plagued by the sound of their desperate moans and cries. But this was to befall upon them as well, and the soldier on the west side was soon to realize this truth.

As they stared backwards in horror, they began to feel the ground tremble as though it too feared the events which occurred. It grew in intensity in a rapid fashion, becoming larger still. This tremor brought to their attention, finding their eyes fixated upon its source. The western guard turned his eyes towards his left, and he suddenly was the receiver of the greatest scare in his life.

He quickly turned towards the incoming attacker, drawing his blade in the process. A monstrous creature came at him in a full-sprint, a creature known only by those have seen it once before. It was called the Talon Beast, a familiar which inspires utter panic in the hearts of those who stood against it. The soldier attempted to take a swing at it the moment it came in close, but he underestimated the creature's jumping capability.

A massive impact was then placed upon the soldier's chest, and a beast that escaped the prison of nightmares pounced him before he could make a move. The weight of the creature dropped the soldier hard on his back, trying desperately to fight the ferocious beast off. There was little use, the beast finding its way to expose him.

It placed its paw down upon his right arm, the arm which carried his blade. A brawny, sturdy body built so strongly that not even Solasúian strength could move it. This realization terrified the soldier immensely, and all he could now was scream. But the beast wasn't going to have that, knowing well what its master told it.

Its frighteningly large, powerful fangs ripped out his throat in a brutal, bloody fashion. His chainmail reduced to shreds, being completely decimated. He was petrified, trembling, his glowing teal blue eyes watching helplessly as his trachea was savagely pulled apart right in front of him. His will to battle for his life diminishing by the second, his blood pooling all around his head.

The soldier off to the eastern side of the gate just stared in utter dismay, her mind scarred eternally with the bloodcurdling sight and sound of this soldier's untimely and rather violent demise. All she could think to do was run, run as far and as swift as physically possible. With the skip of her heart, the soldier bolted faster than a groundhog after seeing its shadow. All she could think to do was get out of there, willing even to desert her comrade and leave him to his inevitable murder.

Her face reflected her hysteria, feeling her head spin around faster than she could blink. Her very first second of the view behind her revealed something to her dismay: the tip of a dagger giving her the evil eye. Its presence caught her by surprise, not having heard its coming. The dagger found its way through her multiple times in rapid succession, causing her to watch her own blood fly out from her.

Her glowing blue eyes pressed forward beyond her own blood, her hand reaching for the blade at her side in a fleeting attempt to save herself. And going beyond the sound of her own ally being slowly eaten alive, she stared viciously upon her killer as he stared callously back at her. She found him to be a fellow with frameless glasses and a pair of brown eyes, they emitted a chill as gelid as absolute zero itself.

He then put his left hand upon her right shoulder, pushing her back as he pulled his dagger out from the last place he stabbed her. He tore out his dagger from her chest, and she collapsed onto the ground in a limp, doll-like manner. Cradled in crimson, she began to feel herself go frigid like him as her life slip away.

The one named Telvern was her murderer, wasting no time over this life which had begun to fade away. The massive gate was the objective, the target. While his Talon Beast was relaxing and nibbling upon the dying soldier like a chew toy, Telvern approached an old rusty door in the left side of the gate.

He fastened his hand around the door's handle, pulling it in to open the way. Hearing as the gate had finally opened, the awaiting Resistance and Lamians revealed themselves from behind a variety of different hiding places. Being the first at the now opened gates, Shinon and Shakir awaited their comrades.

The victim of Shinon's attack was the soldier standing to the west, and he was still upon his knees. He violently coughed out his own blood, watching it seep out from his mouth. He found a pair of boots before him, causing his glowing blue eyes to face upwards.

A hand fastened around the shaft of the arrow which punctured him, his eyes seeing a pair of hateful black irises looking back at him. The hand then twisted the arrow around in the soldier's body, causing him much agony. As he grunted and groaned from the sickening feel of the metal twisting in his body, he suddenly felt a boot pound against the right side of his chest.

Through a combination of the kick from his boot and the pull of his hand, Shinon ripped the arrow out of the soldier's trunk. The dying soldier's fading eyes were now forced skyward, staring blankly upon the darkened sky with squinted eyes and a malformed face. Shinon looked on after retrieving his arrow, watching the defeated soldier upon his back as his life bled out all around him.

Raphael gazed up upon the top of the city walls, seeing as the Desert Assassins had already moved onto the next part of their attack as was scheduled. They had to proceed onward now too, so Raphael wasted no time. He turned to his comrades, all of whom awaited his instruction. "Let's get going," ordered the silver-haired heir to his allies.

Raphael then focused on the path ahead, charging a course forward. The group entered the quiet streets, finding Telvern no longer there, joining his former clansmen in the hunt. The bodies of the soldiers he had murdered disappeared, perhaps he had put them away in a hiding place to avoid someone finding them. Regardless, the group set foot into the so-called city of nobles, a place that looked rather beaten and aged despite its glorious title. Imaginably so, given that the city was just getting over being under attack.

Some soldiers were alerted to the strange pressure in their heads, stealing their attention. As they investigated, their glowing eyes pushed open widely. They saw foolish humans force their way into the city, walking straight towards them with weapons drawn. They felt the sting of their senses telling them of the deadly intentions of those before them, prompting them to make a move.

But alas, not too fast. Even their reflexes were not quick enough for this, a blade in the dark finding their bodies. Silenced grunts of despair filled the hollow night, the bodies of victims lining the streets. The slaughter began the moment of Raphael's foot passing through into Ormemel. Bands of blackened figures crept up slowly upon their prey as if they were sloths on the hunt, not a sound was emitted from their tread.

One-by-one, they fell, indiscriminately and without bias. And after each kill, the assassins made sure to properly conceal their actions. There were a few mistakes made by some of the lesser experienced assassins, causing some soldiers to have more time to be aware of what was going on. But it wasn't enough to halt the onslaught, quickly being dispatched and disposed of.

There was no sweat upon Raphael and his group as they rolled into the city, unconcerned by the soldiers who were being decimated. Overall, the Desert Assassins showcased a rather astounding and frankly unbelievable display of skill, having gotten used to working around the powerful hearing of the Solasúian race.

Along the way, the assassins took out any lanterns which lit up the night with sunflies. The creatures were free to decide their own fate again, fluttering away upon the night breeze. Raphael's group stepped along a long stretch of silence, an empty street dark and seemingly abandoned.

Shinon chuckled very lightly to himself, noticing a lack of hostility. "Damn, these guys didn't even know what hit 'em..." Shinon very quietly jeered. "Serves 'em right."
