Azzanadra twirled and came to rest in a low stance, gazing at Kamil and Dessous, his last two opponents on the platform. "What?" he asked. "All of you are in on this?"
Kamil grinned. "You bet," he replied. "And even you, the great Azzanadra, didn't suspect a thing!"
"Why?" Azzanadra inquired, his face cool and expressionless. Internally, his heart was pounding. He was strong, but it would still be difficult to defeat all four of them. He needed to buy some time to figure out a plan.
"Why? Why?" Dessous shouted, his voice cold. "Because you killed my father! That's why I'll never serve the Empty Lord!"
"Your father? Ah, Raldeir. So one of the Sons was among our number the whole time. You've done a good job of hiding your ancestry, as well as their...characteristic features."
"I won't be hiding them anymore! Not in the age of Mahjarrat!"
"The Age of Mahjarrat?"
"Exactly," replied Kamil. "That's what this is all about! Our master has grand schemes; the institution of Mahjarrat reign over the humans, the destruction of all other governments, and the establishment of a Mahjarrat god on this plane."
"A Mahjarrat god?" scoffed Azzanadra. "That's fallacy! The only way to..." The smirk fell off Azzanadra's face as fast as it appeared. "You need Zaros."
"He finally catches on!" Dessous taunted. "But it's too late! The Empty Lord's end is coming, and yours with it!"
"The Empty Lord? What are you saying?"
"That's your King, Azzanadra," replied Fareed, who came walking casually up the steps from below. "The people revere our Master. They chant his name in the streets. You did not know of this, but before the rebellion of Zaros, the people of Raldeir's Empire did the same. Now, they chant for the overthrow of Zaros in favor of a new Emperor. Zaros is the Empty Lord because he has no real power in this realm."
Azzanadra got a shiver as he felt the world evaporating around him. Four traitors...no, there were more. How many were there?
