“They did what?” demanded Zaros.
Sendoa smiled. “The idea was brilliant. The souls of the Great Ten were the source of the magic in Freneskae. Therefore, they had to leave them on the world in order to ensure the continuation of their gifts. Each of them isolated a single portion of their power into an orb, which continued to leak their magical influence into Freneskae. Even to this day, each orb controls a certain style and element, and no two orbs give off the same resonance.
These are the Decaphim, the Ten Spirits. They divide the five elements between them: Ice, Blood, Shadow, Smoke, and Lightning. Each element has a Phori orb and a Khanu orb, thus accounting for all ten. These orbs were placed in specific areas of Freneskae, which became dedicated to that element. Therefore, magical abilities became regional, and all of Freneskae was influenced by one of these sets.”
“Sets?”
“In each temple, there sat two orbs. In order to assure that the magic remained balanced in all the Mahjarrat, the Phori and Khanu orbs of a particular element were always kept together. So, for a great many years, Mahjarrat magic was similar to human dexterity. Mahjarrat could use both, but they favored one of the types, either Phori or Khanu. This is how Freneskae developed.”
“This is interesting,” Zaros responded. “But how does it make any sense? I mean, if Phori and Khanu neutralize each other, how could Mahjarrat have both in their veins and still be able to cast magic? What changed?”
“That is the core of the story. Two millennia ago, a pair of brothers were born. They were the sons of Umari, the Fifth Emperor of Thida.”
“Remember the city where we met Zamorak?” added Azzanadra. “That is the city of Thida.”
