Zaros placed the staff back in its place. "What should I do, Azzanadra?" he asked.
Azzanadra frowned. "Are you asking me as an advisor or a friend?"
"I was hoping as both."
Azzanadra shook his head. "As a friend, I would revile a decision to send someone into Freneskae, but as an advisor, I see no other alternative. If someone is using Khanu to fight you, then we must discover both how they have attained it and, if we can, a way to neutralize their advantage."
"I wouldn't think of sending anyone else into Freneskae," Zaros replied. Azzanadra gave him a puzzled look, and then he realized what the Emperor meant.
"You?" he asked, incredulous. "Impossible! You're the Emperor! The Empire needs you, especially now. You can't leave them behind and go into Freneskae by yourself. A realm which, I may add, is filled with beings that want you dead."
"Why would they-"
"Think about it! You killed their kings, Mukesha and Rama. And, to top it all off, you did away with Raldeir and weakened their hold on this world. I bet anyone that killed you would be a hero over there."
Zaros scowled. "I see no other choice. I don't care about the risk, if it means silencing the Sons forever. Also, the Sons' primary goal is to do away with me. If I'm gone, their attacks may ease off a bit."
"With you gone, the Empire is theirs for the taking."
Zaros shook his head. "You or Zamorak would both be excellent rulers in my stead, and each of you is just as able to hold them off as me."
Azzanadra groaned. "I don't like the idea, but I guess in the end it's your call."
The door to the chamber immediately swung open, and Spyridon moved in. "They're here," he said curtly, and Zamorak and Akthanakos followed through the threshold.
"You're all okay," Zaros said with a sigh of relief.
Akthanakos nodded. "We were lucky. Excepting this thing, we got away today without a single casualty."
"One, if you count Kuura."
Akthanakos scoffed. "We don't count dirty traitors."
