"Although we have preferred forms, nearly all ancients are capable of modifying their physical bodies to whatever extent we wish. Lux is not merely an ancient, but one of the four elders; while he prefers a male form, he, like all the elders, is truly without gender and is capable of assuming any feature of gender he wishes in any shape he wishes to take on. He would have no trouble taking on the required form," Umbra replied. "Yes, manipulating an entire nation of your people would be immoral... but is it not justified when the alternative the complete destruction of your kind's society or a near guaranteed extinction of your race if you attempted to alter your fate with the Names of the four? It would not include falsehood, either. He is the highest realization of Light in this world; there is no higher power your people's prayers would go to, save the eldest himself were he still alive. It would not be a falsehood to speak of the destruction the war will bring, for that destruction is very real. His intervention may be the only salvation for your kind."

Caelidorus let out a light snort and gently nipped Matt's hand.
"Have you so little faith in me? Ventus has always been regarded as our patron ancestor and seed of our clan, but he is little more than a respected name. He has never been seen as more than a hero of sorts; that he is a living ancient must have been lost long ago. We respect our ancestors, but they do not determine the way of the clan."

"It is only in few places the barrier is week enough for them to break through," Umbra stated quietly. "And they cannot stray far beyond without being drawn into the Abyss. Only a direct link to the Abyss or the invocation of their Name can sustain them in the physical world. I would not release you while they ravage the ruins. You would be destroyed in seconds."

The abomination let out a series of roars and shrieks great enough to shake the earth, but it seemed incapable of sating its rage. It clawed and bited and attempting to strike with innumerable tendrils lashing from its black depths, even firing dark, magical-seeming projectiles at the group, but nothing could pass the circle of stones. The beast seemed fully contained.
The man took a step back and raised his hands in what resembled a defensive wrestling pose of some sort, flames licking along his arms. His eyes were fixed on the approaching stranger.
"And what promise have I of your intentions?" the man demanded, possessing a distinctly Elunian accent. "They stole me from my home and kept me prisoner for seasons! I am no such fool to not recognize the weapons of your land you carry. It's said those of you with such devices take us in the night to torture and kill us with your... machines! How do I know you don't simply intend to take me as well?!"
The man was clearly fearful of the others. Perhaps Elune had legends of Neuvian 'witchery' similar to those Neuvians had of Elune.

"So in other words, I am damned if I do and damned if I don't. Either I agree to your plan that involves lying to my people and convincing them that their goddess is speaking to them and hope that this calms things down or I refuse your help and thus allow my people to be exterminated by those four... hellspawns. You make controlling them sound so difficult that it is almost not even worth considering. I will admit however that the power my people would obtain is... tempting. WIth them under our control, we would probably be among the most powerful beings alive. I suppose I really do not have a choice in the matter do I? Fine, should we encounter LUx in our travels, I will try to have him go along with our plans. I still do not and never will like it however." Matt replied.

Matt gave Caelidorus a friendly shove. "So this is how you repay my kindness is it? I left my comfortable chair, walked all the way across the room, got you a lovely gift, and try to show you how much I respect you and your clan and how do you repay me? You attempt to devour me and mock my sensitive nature! Oh! Woe is me."

"That's exactly what I meant Rhen. You just worded it better then I did. I don't know if we need to sleep or anything like that while in this place, but I feel we should consider doing so now. Unless, of course, someone else has something they would like to add to the discussion at hand. Forlirn? Caelidorus? Umbra? Do any of you feel the need to add something to our conversation?" Matt asked.

The Brother-Captain allowed for the tiniest of smiles to appear on his face. Despite the actions of the abomination which was only a few feet from him, he remained utterly calm. "You would like for me to prove that I have no ill intentions? Very well. I ask that you look at the hill. On the hill are the rest of my men. All but one of them has a rifle trained on you. Now, these men are members of the Brotherhood of the Flaming Sword. Perhaps you have heard of them? It is no matter. All that you need to know is that our Brotherhood is known for two things. The first is our love towards the Emperor of us all, and the second is our skill in battle. The men on the hill are some of the finest shots in all of Neuva. Had I wanted for them to harm you, I would have ordered them to shoot you by now and I certainly would not have ordered you to be freed. Perhaps it is not proof persay, but it is the best I can offer at this time."

The Brother-Captain paused and took a couple of steps forward. "With that out of the way, let us return to business. At this time, you have two options. First, you can attempt to flee or attack me. You will be shot in a way which will not kill you. We will capture you and take you with us. We will interrogate you until we have the information we are looking for (and believe me, we WILL obtain this information). After the interrogation is finished, you will be imprisoned for sabotaging an Imperial mission. Alternatively, you can come with us peacefully and willingly. While you are with us, you will be offered comfortable living conditions and plenty of food and water. At some point, we will have a civil discussion about your time with the heathens who captured you. Following the discussion, we will compensate you for your time and make arrangements for you to be returned to your home. The choice is yours."

''I agree....as soon as we are able to move out from the ruins we should do so. And unless someone else wants to start a discussion I have nothing more to really discuss at this moment in time. So with that in mind....all I can do now is wait until the danger has passed so that we may move on.'' said Rhen as he finally took a seat in one of the chairs in the library like room.

~There is much to think on right now. But I must let my mind rest for a moment while I can let it rest in peace. Hmmm....now that I think about it....I wonder if this is at all like what other races call sleep? You mind awake yet you body unable to be used. An interesting concept. I shall have to make note of this once we can leave under my notes on human condition.~ Rhen thought quietly to himself as he sat in the armchair.

"I say it's not worth trying to use their Names because I firmly believe that to be so," Umbra stated with a finality that suggested he had no doubt in his words. "Your kind do not have the natural mentality to comprehend Names, much less use them, and you would have one chance to use their Names successfully. Failure would be a guaranteed genocide of your race rather than the destruction of your societies. You may not like the idea of manipulating your nation, but there are times when the means justifies the ends. I believe tricking one's society into not destroying the majority of its race is one such instance."

Caelidorus let out an amused snort and licked Matt's face, his tail beginning to flick slowly. "Perhaps I should devour you, my little human. This isn't exactly 'real,' so I could even get away with it, heheheh."

Forlirn shook his head. "Nothing pressing... I have contemplation to consider first." Caelidorus mimicked the action. Umbra tilted his head slightly. "If that is so, I shall return you to 'sleep.' You'll wake in your bodies. It will still be several hours before it is safe, but if you have nothing more to ask of me I see little reason why you should have to consciously wait until then."

The presumed mage frowned fiercely... but bowed his head, the flames wreathing his arms seeming to dim. The sky was dimming as well as the Sparkstar passed its zenith, the odd lights blinking about in the air dimming as well. Clearly whatever magic he had access to was quickly dissipating.
"You leave me little choice... fine, I shall take your word. And I advise you take mine. When that abomination departs, do not touch any... residue... left behind. It will kill you. Horribly."

((I should mention classes have begun again and have left me extremely busy. I will most likely have a very low posting rate once more.))

"Well it's not really a point worth discussing anymore is it?" Matt asked. "I've already agreed with your suggestion. Lux is probably the best chance that my people have. Of course, that's going on the assumption that we will encounter Lux in our travels which, based off of what Forlirn has said in the past, seems highly unlikely. If we do run across him, I will bring this topic up again but I suppose there is no point in discussing it further until then."

"Ah, and this travesty of justice continues. I, a poor and innocent human, was under the impression that we were partners until the end but now I know the truth. I am not your partner and equal! Oh no, I am just a 'little human'. And my sole purpose is to be the object of your sadistic impulses. Alas, it seems that there is no justice in these worlds! Buuuuut in all seriousness, I suppose we ought to stop this if we are about to be sent back to our bodies. There was something else I meant to ask you but it can wait until return to our bodies and leave these ruins." Matt replied.

"Very well, I suppose it is time for us to return to our bodies. I am ready whenever you are. But if you plan to send us into a form of sleep, then what are your plans regarding Rhen. Forgive me if I am wrong, but his kind does not sleep." Matt said.

"I am glad that we understand one another. Once the situation returns to normal, we will bind and blindfold you. I can understand if you are... reluctant to be bound once again. Unfortunately, this is non-negotiable. Once we reach your accommodations, you will be freed. Now as for this residue you mentioned, I am afraid that one of us will need to obtain samples of it for our research teams. Perhaps someone will die. It doesn't matter. We have orders to gather as much information about this place as possible. If I must sacrifice someone to obtain such information then so be it. He has willed it, and I will not disobey Him." The man replied, still as calm as ever.

Pendant embraced the moist, cool air as she made her last strides out of the wintry forest. She'd spent years trading with the tribes and fighting off the cold any way possible. The moment the young lady finally sold her thick skins that carried her through the never ending winter was one long-awaited.

The changing scenery was a shock. Nothing but glistening white had been in Pendant's peripheral for far too long. She smiled, the first time since a native offered her his spare flint, as the grass beneath her feet rustled in the wind. Once-short dark red hair cascaded over her once-tan shoulders, broadened with the burdens that were her possessions.

A compass guided Pendant's footsteps east of the frigid mountains and hopefully towards civilization; thoughts of her companions motivating her forward.

''Matt is correct in the fact that my people do not sleep. We have no need for it with a constant supply of either magic or light. But, I might be able to induce a sleep-like trance ,but I have never tried it before and I would rather not try it now. I am more than content to stay here if you will allow me to Umbra. At least until the danger passes in from the Seekers and Abyssal Abominations outside. I think that may be the best course of action for myself.'' Rhen commented to back Matt's claim about Watchers not sleeping.

''On a serious note. I have something to ask you Animus once the others have gone to their sleep. It is for you to hear only as it only concerns you and myself. Before you begin to question why Matt, as I know you will be suspicious of this action, I shall tell you later should the need arise. But for now what I have to propose only concerns Animus.'' said Rhen, his tone serious as he turned to Animus briefly.

(( good to see you again Pendant. :D ))

"Then the matter is settled for the time being," Umbra concluded simply.

Caelidorus tilted his head slightly, then nodded in agreement. "Yes, that would probably be best. I suppose it is time to sleep. For us, at least."

"That would be a simple matter to address; I would merely 'speed up time,' so to speak, rather than induce a sleep state," Umbra answered. "If that is all... then I shall return the rest of you to sleep and to your bodies."

Animus tilted his head slightly, eying Rhen with what may have been curiosity. "Then we shall speak shortly, but Umbra will hear. It is impossible for him to not hear all that is said here."

"Hmph, you are rather apt in noting I would enjoy nothing of the sort, but again I have little choice in the matter," the man replied, somewhat sourly. "Do what you will with the leavings of that abomination, then, but I warn you any contact will be lethal. The disease it will infect you with will not be curable by any means from this world."
The creature let out another shriek, although there seemed to be some amount of desperation to its unearthly cries. The lights flickering through the air were beginning to fade; perhaps it sensed the Darkstar was departing.

((I was rather excited to see your name appear once more in-game. You're certainly welcome back to the roleplay, although it might take awhile to get into the flow of things again, so to speak.))
