"Rhen, does it seem to be getting darker to you? I have been talking to Caelidorus, and he cannot tell for certain. I certainly hope that I am wrong. This place has no apparent source of light, but whatever it is seems to be dying down. I hope that the darkness does not bring out more abominations." Matt said*

***;For once, having more sensitive eyes may be an advantage. I could swear that the light is dying down and that may bring out more of what inhabits the city. Hopefully I am wrong. Even if the darkness does not bring anything else out, I still wouldn't want to be caught in the darkness down here****;

What Litis had said earlier had proven to be true. All across both worlds, the human and dragon armies were all mobilizing for war. Many were unaware of the others intentions, believing that their nation or clan was the only one who was mobilizing. In Neuva for example, humanity was mobilizing it's armies to 'purge' the land of dragon sympathizers. The target of the coalition of nations was the few human civilizations that still allowed non humans to enter. The leader of this coalition was the dominant nation of Neuva, known simply as the Imperium. Having existed since before the discovery of gunpowder, the Imperium has been ruled by the Imperial family for centuries. With an army whose numbers are unknown by all outside of the ruling elite, the Imperium is feared by all.

((I thought I would introduce a human nation that can serve as an antagonist.))

"I feel it as well Matt. Not in just my eyes but my body as well. There is little light here for me to thrive on. The further we go the more I might need to rely on our provisions to keep me going. But for the time being I will use what light I can until it gets to the point to where I can barely function." said Rhen as he looked around.

~It is a cavern. But certainly a city like this here on Nueva should have a power source and lights for the city to see and keep warm here. The question is.........where is this power source if there is one and is it in working order?~ Rhen thought to himself while pondering what Forlirn had said.

"Oh yes, you need the light to get some of your energy or something like that. Well what sort of provisions are you talking about Rhen? I would rather you take them now, rather then wait until you are too weak to do anything? What if you are attacked? You need to keep up your strength. Just let me know what it is that you need and I will give them to you." Matt said.

"Without light I must consume food to keep my energy up. But for now I have enough light collected from the last several days to last me a while so I should be fine for.......perhaps another day unless something happens where I must expend more energy than just walking. I do appreciate your concern Matt and I thank you." Rhen replied to Matt.

"Forlirn........would it possible that whoever lived here had a source of light to give light to the city and to use to grow crops to support the city? I mean......the surface isn't exactly good for growing things and without some form of light plants would not be able to grow down here to support such a city unless they had other ways of producing food or lived off something else." said Rhen as he glanced over to Forlirn.

"Nonsense Rhen. Here, take this." Matt said as he reached into one of the nearby bags and came out with a couple of apples as well as a few packs of crackers. "We can't have you get weak or starve or whatever happens to your kind. It isn't much, but it should keep you going for now. At the very least, you should be able to summon enough energy to get out of here quickly if we are attacked."

"Thank you Matt." said Rhen as he reached out and took the food from Matt with his Void infected hand, the black crystals sounding like someone sweeping broken glass as they moved. "Trust me on this first Matt.......I am more likely to fall into madness than I am to......how do you humans put it.....ah yes.....starve. For my people have resilient bodies but as wise and smart as we are, our mind are fragile. We loose more of our people to madness than other things. But for the moment I guess you are right, my energy is what needs to be taken care of for now."

"I'm just concerned about your wellbeing Rhen. I know that you may be more resilient then I, but I am just worried about the possibility of something bad happening. Maybe I am foolish for being concerned, but I can't help it. I mean, we are literally travelling through the unknown right now. Who knows what we will encounter? Maybe it'll be something that will break us mentally, or maybe we will be broken physically. Either way, we need to be ready." Matt said.

"It's likely the abyssal forces at work," Forlirn said grimly, his tail flicking uneasily. "Which bodes rather ill. Creatures of the Abyss generally perform more... effectively... in darkness. It allows them to exist in this world to a greater extent, which means they'll be more likely to deal with us. As for a light source... well, it's as possible as anything else, I suppose. I've seen nothing save for the magical-seeming glow coming from the walls, even though magic shouldn't be possible. What I do know is this place has existed since before humankind discovered there was more to electricity than lightning in the sky."

<If worst comes to worst then I'll use my lightning to create light to see by. It wouldn't be too difficult for me to make small sparks dance along my jaws, though I doubt I could last as long as we might need it to last. Even that small amount would be a fairly substantial drain on me after a span of time. Did we bring any of those mechanical light devices your kind uses?>

((Not a problem. I do apologize for my infrequent posting. I'm dealing with many life events that are making it difficult for me to post much at all.))

"I hope you are wrong Forlirn. I suggest we get into this palace structure and then get the hell out of here. Every moment we spend in here is another moment that whatever lives in here can kill us. I know that it is getting darker in here. That means they are getting close to us." Matt said*

***;Don't worry. We brought a few flashlights with us. It'll save you the trouble of having to use up your energy. Having you be exhausted and unable to fight efficiently is about the last thing that we need. I'd be ready to do so in any event though. This place defies all logic and it may in some way tamper with our flashlights****;

In the capital of the Imperium, Algamorga, the Emperor and his inner council sat in the depths of the massive Imperial palace. A fierce debate was raging between those who desired war and those who opposed it. "We must strike at the last demonic holdouts among human civilization. A few nations still refuse to forcibly exile the demons or destroy them. The only reasonable alternative is to annex these possessed regions and show them the light of Humanity." One councillor said. "I disagree. The remaining nations in Neuva already view us as warmongers who take away the rights of our serfs and citizens. To go to war now only furthers that view. I despise the demons as you do, but we can't risk war." Another replied. "Enough!" The Emperor, who was a man that appeared to be middle aged (though he was supposed to be well into his seventies) interrupted. "The Imperium is the most powerful state in Neuva. The other nations are too fearful of our power to intervene in a war. Besides, the 3rd and 12th armies are already massed along the borders of the traitor states. The only logical step is to launch Operation Exodus, starting in three days. With the annexation of these regions and the removal of the last demons from our society, the Imperium will be the unquestioned power on the planet. With that, we can finally begin the utter extermination of the demons."
