"My people have done studies on the crystal and we cannot determine its origin. We do not know if there is anything like it here on Nueva as my people never have traveled here. I am the first but it is not exactly an honor as I am here as an outcast." said Rhen. "As for the miniature crystals.......I do not know if they will work here as neither my people nor I know if how they work is based on magic or nature. If its workings are based on magic then no. But we have no way of knowing if they are as we have not found a way to figure it out. For the reason that I do not know if they will work, I carry my journal as explorers of your race would as for now it is the only thing I can use to write down my knowledge. And yes......before you ask, I do have some of the miniature crystals with me. For when one is outcast, which very rarely happens amoung our people, they are given 3 crystals to use how they see fit. Some have used them to record their lives and others carried on their research in exile and recored their research in them. If you are wondering how I know this well......lets just say for the past many years, I have been busy. In my sactchel I have roughly 30 crystals that I have 'collected' over the years I have been alive. Each houses a different piece of information from other outcasts."

"I see. It does make sense to carry a journal around considering there is a good chance that those crystals do not work. I'm rather curious as to why they would bother giving you crystals considering you cannot do anything other then record onto them. Do your people have some sort of system where you can return to your city after a period of time or perhaps where you can drop of those crystals so that they can be retrieved by watchers who have not been banished? For that matter, how did you manage to obtain these other crystals from other banished watchers. I highly doubt that all of them willingly gave them to you." Matt replied.

<Heh, well, unless I go insane or something of the sort, there'd be no way I'd bother trying to invade. And if I did... well, I do hope the clan would be intelligent enough to put me in an honorary position rather than let me make such a foolish decision.>
"Hm, they'd probably wear almost all white in this kind of snow..." Caelidorus commented. "That would make them nearly invisible... Bah, it will be next to impossible to see them in these conditions. Have any suggestions as to how we might notice them?"
<True, that would be an option. But then we have to face whatever resides in these lands on Elune. I know little of what exists this far north, but I've heard rumors of powerful magic auras.>

<By honourary position I assume that you mean a position where you hold no real power but you still command a certain amount of respect right? Well I doubt that will happen because I agree that you are not going to go insane. The only way I can think of is if something happens in the ruins that makes us become insane. These seekers seem as though they could easily do that if they wanted to.>
"Hmm... it will be quite hard to see them if they are wearing all white. The best advice I can offer you is too look for places where the snow seems to be acting funny. It's hard to describe what I mean, but if you see places where things are not acting right then I would recommend blasting the area with one of your lightening bolts. Other then that, just look for any colours that stand out in the snow. I doubt that their suits will be perfect. Even if they are, some skin may be showing. Keep an eye out for that." Matt replied.
<Well that's still better then being killed off in a cave by the wyvern. I'd like to take my chances in Elune. At least we would have a shot at surviving if we did that. But i'm curious as to what you mean by magical auras. I can't say that I have ever heard of such a thing, though I must admit that I have no reason to pay attention to things like that.>

"Most crystals are found by our traveling scholars and returned to the city where the others learn either what knowledge the exiled have found or how they meet their end. But in our culture, once a watcher is banished, they can never return and their name is no longer mentioned in our society. As for why they give us the crystals.....well let us just say it somewhat helps with an exile's mental state. As an exile can play back what they have recorded inorder to hear something besides the echo of the caves in which they live." said Rhen. "And you are right Matt. The exiles didn't just willing give me the crystals. Before I explain more let me tell you this.....I am one of the few exiles who have managed to maintain my sanity. Most exiles go insane after centuries alone. In a way.........what I did was a release from suffering. If I had not done what I did then they would live the rest of their lies in agony as they plunge further and further into insanity. I belive humans call it a mercy killing. I am not proud of what I have done Matt but as I said........they would have suffered for eternity had I not ended their lives. But they did not die in vain. Their notes and stories are safe with me and they will live on in my own work as I study their work and use it to try and better myself and the ones around me. I can say one thing. Their spirits are at peace now and I did give each a proprer burrial before I left them. As I said......I am not proud of my actions but it needed to be done."

I see. So in essense, you never existed in the minds of your people. I don't think that it is right for them to pretend that you do not exist. It is probably just a difference of opinion though. As for your actions against other exiles, I suppose I can understand why you did what you did. I don't know if I agree with what you did, but I understand why you did it. I only hope that you would not do such a thing if you encountered an exile that was still sane. If you killed someone who was sane then you can't argue that you were mercy killing them." "I have only kill those whos minds were lost. There are other exiles I have meet that have been able to retain thier sanity. Those exiles still live. But if I meet them again adn their sanity is gone then I will end thier suffering. But for now they live their lives in peace." said Rhen. "And yes Matt.......to my people I no longer exist and all trace of me has been removed from their society. To them I am nothing more than a myth that is false and never existed. Just as you thought the ancients were only fairy tales, that is all I am to my people now. But it does not matter for I have new friends you and the others. That is all I need to keep my sanity and to have the will to keep on living."

<That's about what I mean. They're basically positions of no power and little duty but command a great deal of respect, second only to the honorable dead. To receive one means to have served the clan to the greatest extent of your being to the point where you no longer are able to serve in great ways. Had he not been murdered, my farther would most likely have been given such a title. As for what lies in the ruins... I do not doubt that they contain enough to drive us to madness. We will have to be quick...>
"Are you certain they'd have any skin showing?" Caelidorus asked, tilting his head. "I'd imagine that could cause frostbite in these conditions... but I'll keep my eyes open. Perhaps we'll be able to spot them even if they are lying in wait..."
<I can't really tell you much. All that seems to be known about the north on Elune are occasional rumors. The most common seem to say that mages and the like can sense powerful magic from it... I also recall hearing that those who venture to it never seem to return...>
"I think we might be faced with another delay!" Forlirn shouted above the increasing wind. "Blizzard is picking up and I doubt we'll reach the ruins before conditions become unnavigable!"

"I suppose if you only did it to the insane then I can understand your intentions. I'm curious as to what it was like meeting another sane exile from your people. Did you bother talking with them or did you leave them be? And I myself think that pretending you do not exist is a bit harsh. I appreciate that the friends you have gained has gotten you over that, but I still think that erasing you from existance is still very wrong." Matt said.
<I think we have something similar to that as well. At least in some of our countries anyway. Does just about every Tempest get that position or is it only leaders? From what you have told me about your father, I don't think he deserved to have an honourable exit like that. He didn't sound like the best leader your clan ever had.>
"What I meant was that places like the head, hands and feet are areas that are most likely to have skin showing or at least a different coloured material covering them. I'd recommend just going with your gut. I feel that it is best to listen to your body when it is telling you something is off. It is usually right." Matt replied.
<Sounds ominous. But we may have to experience this for ourselves since this storm seems to be getting worse. I guess if we end up in Elune, we will just have to figure out ways to avoid this magical energy. It also sounds like there is some sort of extreme danger up here in Elune. I hope we never end up having to switch worlds here.>

"I have talked with some. Others shooed my away. But the ones I have talked to have given me some very good advice and I have always taken it to heart. The exiles that I have talked to are the ones who inspired me to even consider making replacement limbs. Do directly but they had some hand in it. Part of the reason why my false limbs even work on Elune is because of them. One of them taught me how minipulate the flow of magic in my body to act as a nerve system to move my mechanical limbs." said Rhen as he hunkered down closer to Forlirn's back to shield his face from the blizard. "We can talk more after we make it through the blizard Matt. Right now we should focus on survival."
