"We have no choice, but that fact does not mean that I have to feel comfortable with it. We are very much at risk with these auras, and we may not even be aware of their danger before it is too late." Matt replied.
"I've heard of those stories. I just don't get the point of you obtaining and guarding treasure. Why waste all that time and energy? For that matter, aren't you basically just asking for people to try and kill you for your treasure?" Matt asked.
"I know, but my point is that the people who meet him will be so overwhelmed by him that they will think that the word Frilarth doesn't cover him effectivly!" Matt laughed.
"Trust me Forlirn, there are ways. If they grew everything in greenhouses for example, then it wouldn't matter where they were." Matt said

"Well, that's what the large supply of blankets are for," Forlirn said, shrugging slightly. "If you get cold, wrap another blanket around yourself... and another... and another..."
"Well, I guess time will tell, for better or for worse," Caelidorus sighed. "I just hope it's for the better..."
"It's simply what we do," Caelidorus said, shrugging. "Every dragon hoards in some sort of way, even if he or she claims not to. And I wouldn't suggest trying to change that in a dragon. It'd be like us trying to convince you to give up your native language."
"That's why they need to be explained to that the word had always been used as an understatement," Caelidorus grinned. "So they can figure out how it's meant to be used!"
"The sunlight isn't as direct here, and the storms often block it out," Forlirn replied. "Few plants can grow with such little sun and usually grow only very slowly. And, to my knowledge, not a single one of those plants bear fruit."

"Yes, so do I." Matt sighed. "I somehow doubt that will be the case though."
"I don't care if you have your hoard or if you don't. It just seems a bit odd from an outside perspective. So anyway, what sort of stuff do you have in your hoard Caelidorus? Is it the typical pile of gold with the occasional jewel scattered about?" Matt asked.
"I know, but knowing Frilarth the way we do, we have to admit that many people may think the word is too much of an understatement to be used. Lets face it Caelidorus, when Frilarth is involved in something, then any outcome is possible." Matt grinned.
"We have technology that is essentially artificial sunlight. It's used in greenhouses to ensure that plants always get enough sunlight. If people really wanted to live up there then they could use that in their greenhouses." Matt replied.

"Never seems to be..." Caelidorus said quietly. "Never seems to be..."
"Oh, Tempests don't keep an individual hoard," Caelidorus answered. "At least, not those of my clan. Rather, it is all brought to the clan hoard. 'Tis there where we bring out ashes, to the great central urn..."
"True, true," Caelidorus chuckled. "What I think would be interesting is if his outcome happened. Because armies of evil pies would certainly be a tasty threat to face."
"And they would have to constantly transport in fuel to power these greenhouses," Forlirn said. "Fuel that would be rather hard to light, since coal is the only fuel that doesn't freeze this far north. Meaning any sort of settling would require constant resupplying through a landscape often covered in blinding snowstorms and other such conditions harsh enough to stop many machines. And it's not devoid of dragons, and those dragons won't necessarily like having humans intrude in a place where resources are already thin. To add to that, there simply is not an incentive for humans to come here. Humans are not going to settle here."
"I've somewhat gathered that by now," Forlirn chuckled. "I'd probably hate it too if I could actually feel it..."

"Your clan has a giant urn where you place all of the ashes of your dead? Do all tempests get the honour of having their ashes placed in the urn or is it only a select few?" Matt asked.
"You're the only person I know who would look forward to the apocalypse because you would get to eat a lot of pie as a result. You've got quite a sweet tooth to say the least." Matt replied.
"Well I think there are supposed to be resources under the ice that we might need. I'm not sure what kind, but I have heard it mentioned a couple of times. If that is the case, then a couple of small towns might pop up here and there. But i'm far from an expert, so I won't pretend to know." Matt said.

"Every Tempest who has died honorably, so nearly all of us," Caelidorus replied. "So in the end, all of our ashes are together, for we all acted to serve the clan. We all hope to someday join our ancestors in that urn... though I've occasionally wondered what will happen once it's full..."
"What can I say, sweets are tasty," Caelidorus said, grinning. "And seeing as I typically only eat meat for food, they make a nice change of pace... especially since sweets aren't exactly commonplace in Elune."
"I can't possibly imagine what they would be looking for or how they could so easily conclude what they're looking for is even in the north," Forlirn snorted. "I'd reckon that more than half of the earth beneath the snow and ice is solid rock, particularly farther inland. And rock isn't exactly easy to drill through in freezing temperatures and when it can snow enough to literally bury a house."

"If I had to guess, I would say that they would expand the urn. I'm guessing they would make it taller or something. If it was even made a few feet taller then it could hold a considerable amount of extra ashes. Of course I don't know if you consider your urn to be sacred and thus see such a move as an insult..." Matt replied.
"Heh, I can see what you mean there. Before you return to your clan, you'll have to stock up on sweets. I'll also have to make sure I have some sweets on hand when you return to Neuva to visit me. And before you say that you are not returning to visit me at some point, trust me when I say that I will ensure that you do." Matt replied, also grinning.
"I won't pretend to know either Forlirn. I never really paid any attention to this sort of thing, so if they ever explained it then I never heard it. All I can say is that I assume they have their ways of figuring these things out." Matt said.

"Another point to consider.....if the land this far north is always froxen like this then the ground beneath, even if it is not rock might possibly be permenently frozen. That and the extreme cold would take a heavy toll on all forms of machinery as well as the humans operating them. Just food for thought." said Rhen.

"I'll take your word on that Rhen since you seem to be an expert on all things related to machinery. How are you going to survive up north considering you use mechanical limbs? Are you going to have to remove them?" Matt asked.
