"I will be fine!" Kaisen returned sternly, and Abiel was silent. Kaisen sighed. "I'm sorry, Abiel. I'll admit, there are other reasons for wanting you to travel to Yanille besides the letter. I want you to experience something beyond this island. You are a great mage, and a great person, and I want you to see what there is out there. Maybe fall in love. I met your grandmother when I was traveling the world."
"But my life is here, with you!" Abiel replied. "I can find someone to love here!" He thought of the girl Hala, and he was silent, pondering his own words.
Kaisen caught the look in his eye, and he smiled. "You may think you love someone now, Abiel, but you'll know it's true if the love is still there when you return. When I was attending the Academy in Yanille, there was a girl named Nimue that I swore I loved. Then, I left and I met Kalda, and I can't see my life any other way. I just want you to live without regrets."
Abiel bowed his head, unable to speak. Kaisen walked around the table, and he put his wrinkled hand on the boy's brown hair. "Abiel," the old man whispered. "You are named for my father, one of the finest wizards ever to pass the halls of the Guild. He was brave and strong, and I see so much of him in you, even three generations later. You have the strength to leave, I know it. Look deep inside yourself, and you'll see it too."
Kaisen walked away on his cane, limping into his bedroom. Abiel remained seated at the table, the food still sitting before him. Tears started creeping into his eyes. He had a long night ahead of him.

The small boat creaked as it floated in the choppy waters of the Lunar Isle. Abiel walked over to the dinghy and tossed his backpack onto the wooden floor of the vessel. He turned back to the two people standing on the shore behind him. "It's all ready," he said. A week had passed since he received the letter for Jian, and finally he was ready to set out.
