Yeah, Toby, sorry about that. I had to commit suicide and then uncommit it also after USA's loss to Ghana, just so I can finish my stories ;)

Anyway, the wait is over! Adds will be up in a minute or two! And there are a lot of them, I wanted to finish out the chapter with these!

"Oh, heavens no! Nobody has found a way in all the millennia since it was introduced!"

Abiel frowned. "So, what are the Edicts of Guthix, anyway?"

Orvian sighed, realizing what was happening. "Kaisen, you clever old... You forced this on me..." he muttered, but then he looked back down to the boy. "Well, the Edicts of Guthix are a set of laws enacted by the great god of balance himself. During the Third Age, the gods were at war. It was as brutal a contest as there ever was, and the world was left in ruins. The fighting was still going on when Guthix awoke from his sleep. He was angry, so he forced the gods to make an agreement.

"The Edicts of Guthix are as follows: the gods shall have no more business on our world. None shall be allowed to set foot here on Gielinor. Next, there must be a careful balance between good and evil. If the balance is shifted too far to one side, Gielinor will be destroyed and remade in an entirely new way."

"How is that possible?" Abiel asked, surprised by the stipulation on the rules.

"There exist a secret group of Guthixians somewhere out there, and, should the need ever arise, they will convene and cast an ancient ritual that will reawaken Guthix. He will then instigate the destruction of our world. Rumor has it that there is a secret altar out there that will serve as the site for the Guthixians to awaken him."

"So that will happen if the world becomes too good or too evil?"

Orvian nodded grimly. "Guthix is the god of balance, so there must be an equal balance of everything. You will find, my boy, that this is true all over our world. Every person has a balance of good and evil, light and darkness within them. There are exceptions, but be heartened. You can almost always find good in someone if you take the time to look for it."

Abiel smiled. "But these Edicts... You say that there is no way around them?"

"None that I've ever found. And to my knowledge, no one else has, either."

The boy frowned. "Grandpa was afraid you would say that. It still doesn't put him at ease."

The sage shook his head. "Boy, when you reach the same age as he or I, you'll find that very little truly puts you at ease."

----------

"I'm home!" yelled Abiel, bursting through the door to his grandfather's house. At the sound of Abiel's call, Kaisen walked into the room, his wooden cane in hand.

"Did you make it into the city?" Kaisen asked.

Abiel nodded enthusiastically. "Yes, and I talked to the sage just like you asked!"

"And?"

"He said he had no idea if it could be done."

Kaisen scowled. "Just as I thought... Oh well, it can't be helped. Come on, I already prepared dinner."

"All right!" Abiel exclaimed, following his grandfather into the nearby room, where a table sat prepared with food. Abiel jumped up onto one of the chairs, which was a bit higher, to account for his short stature. Kaisen slowly reclined into the chair on the opposite end.

Abiel quickly started eating, digging into the fine meal that Kaisen had prepared. The meal was a cooked fish, one that was native to the seas north of the Lunar Isle. It was prepared with herbs and spices. Abiel looked up as he was eating, and he saw Kaisen looking at him with a strange expression.

"What's wrong, grandpa?" asked Abiel.

Kaisen shook his head. "Nothing, nothing."

"You made my favorite meal... And you're not acting right. What's bothering you?"

Kaisen laughed bitterly. "You've inherited your grandmother's attention to detail; you certainly know when something is up. I don't like the feeling I get when I wake up in the morning. I feel like I won't see the sunset."

"You're not too old!" Abiel responded. "You still have many years left before..."

"It's not that. I feel that the world will end before the day is over."

Silence fell between the two. "Surely..." Abiel began, but Kaisen cut him off.

"I feel darkness accumulating across the horizon. Our world is on a collision course with disaster, and the only variable is how soon it will break out. I can feel Zamorak's power strengthening."

"But won't the rest of the world be able to fight him? I mean, the Saradominists are strong too, aren't they?"

Kaisen lowered his head. "We can only hope. Abiel, you're right, I need to tell you something."

"What is it, grandpa?" Abiel asked, a puzzled look on his face.

"I need you to deliver a message for me."

"I just visited the sage! Why didn't you let me take it today?"

"This message isn't going to Orvian," Kaisen replied.

Abiel shot his grandfather a quizzical look. Kaisen got up slowly and walked over to a nearby set of drawers. He pulled it open and took a small piece of paper from under a book within it. "This message is going to another old friend of mine."

"You wrote this?" Abiel asked. "I thought writing was hard for you!"

"Hard, not impossible."

Abiel frowned. "I could still have delivered it today..."

Kaisen laughed, but it was a bitter chuckle. "I'm sorry, Abiel. This is difficult for me, but it's high time you experienced the world for yourself."

"What do you mean?"

Kaisen bowed his head. "I want you to take this message to my friend Jian. He lives in Yanille."

Silence fell at the table once again. Then, Abiel spoke. "Yanille? You want me to go all the way to Yanille?" The boy stood up, not quite as imposing as he would have liked, due to his short stature. "I can't leave! I need to stay here, with you!"

"I'll be fine on my own, Abiel," Kaisen replied. "But it is imperative that Jian receives this message."

"But you..."

"I will be fine!" Kaisen returned sternly, and Abiel was silent. Kaisen sighed. "I'm sorry, Abiel. I'll admit, there are other reasons for wanting you to travel to Yanille besides the letter. I want you to experience something beyond this island. You are a great mage, and a great person, and I want you to see what there is out there. Maybe fall in love. I met your grandmother when I was traveling the world."

"But my life is here, with you!" Abiel replied. "I can find someone to love here!" He thought of the girl Hala, and he was silent, pondering his own words.

Kaisen caught the look in his eye, and he smiled. "You may think you love someone now, Abiel, but you'll know it's true if the love is still there when you return. When I was attending the Academy in Yanille, there was a girl named Nimue that I swore I loved. Then, I left and I met Kalda, and I can't see my life any other way. I just want you to live without regrets."

Abiel bowed his head, unable to speak. Kaisen walked around the table, and he put his wrinkled hand on the boy's brown hair. "Abiel," the old man whispered. "You are named for my father, one of the finest wizards ever to pass the halls of the Guild. He was brave and strong, and I see so much of him in you, even three generations later. You have the strength to leave, I know it. Look deep inside yourself, and you'll see it too."

Kaisen walked away on his cane, limping into his bedroom. Abiel remained seated at the table, the food still sitting before him. Tears started creeping into his eyes. He had a long night ahead of him.

-------------

The small boat creaked as it floated in the choppy waters of the Lunar Isle. Abiel walked over to the dinghy and tossed his backpack onto the wooden floor of the vessel. He turned back to the two people standing on the shore behind him. "It's all ready," he said. A week had passed since he received the letter for Jian, and finally he was ready to set out.

Kaisen walked down to the water with him. "I've enchanted it with all the magic I could think of," he said. "It should be more than sufficient to get you to the mainland."

Abiel nodded. "So it's all here."

"Not everything," said the other person standing on the bank. Abiel looked up to Hala, who was holding a small satchel. She came over and handed it to Abiel. "It's a pie I made earlier. Just in case you get hungry on the way."

Abiel smiled and embraced Hala. "Thank you, Hala," he said. "Grandpa gave me a lot of provisions, but I'll really enjoy this. It's probably much better anyway," he added.

"Hey!" Kaisen shot back with a smile, joking even through his sorrow. Abiel finally relinquished Hala, and he looked to his grandfather. "Abiel," Kaisen said, a tear dripping from his eye. "It's time."

Abiel nodded. "I understand. I'll be back before you know it!"

Kaisen smiled. "And we'll both be waiting when you do." Then, he snapped his fingers, and a staff materialized out of thin air in his hand. "I want you to carry this with you."

"What is that? That's not your lava staff!"

Kaisen shook his head. "No, this staff is far more valuable. I want you to use it, and keep it close by. You must guard it with your life."

Abiel smiled widely as he took the staff from Kaisen. "You got it! I'll treasure it!"

Kaisen, still teary-eyed, hugged his grandson tightly, and their embrace seemed to last a lifetime for the old man. "You're acting like this is a final goodbye!" Abiel said with a laugh. "I told you I'd be coming back."

Kaisen chuckled. "Anyone my age would act like this. I know, I'll have your favorite meal ready for you when you get back."

"I love you, grandpa," Abiel whispered.

"I love you too, Abiel."

Abiel grinned one more time, and then he broke away from his grandfather. "I'll see you two when I get back!" And with that, he jumped in the boat. Using his water magic, he forced the sea beneath him to propel the small dinghy away from the shore. Kaisen and Hala stood on the bank, watching the boy drift off into the wide world. They kept waving until he was no longer visible over the horizon.

As they turned away, Hala looked at the old man. "What was that staff you gave him?" she asked. "I felt something very strange about it."

Kaisen, shocked, looked at her with wide eyes. "You sensed something?"

"Yes, but it was very weak. Like it was being masked by something."

The old man smiled. "You have acute senses. How would you like to come back sometime? I could teach you to harness those magical senses."

Hala was taken aback by the offer, but she finally agreed. "From this day on, you will be my student," Kaisen said.

Hala looked off to the distant horizon. "I'll be strong when you get back, Abiel. You better be ready to handle it."

Kaisen laughed. "That boy doesn't stand a chance!"

With Abiel gone, the two climbed back up to the road, and they went their separate ways, Hala to the village, and Kaisen to his small cottage. "She sensed the Staff of Armadyl," Kaisen said to himself as he walked, looking back at the girl walking the other direction. "She has potential."
