Chapter 10: Preparation

"wow, I'm sorry" Tirent said.
"Its alright" Nate replied, it was a long time ago. But I have sworn that some day I will destroy that man."
When Nate, Tirent, Zephy, Sorak, Gorgo, and Spindle arrived at the Dragon Isle, they quickly went to the Draken's quarters and showed him the files. The Draken looked them over, "This is serious," Draken agreed. " I will call together the dragonkin warriors and prepare a defense. You six go get a good night sleep"
"But sir, we want to fight!" Sorak said.
"you will, you will. If you noticed they plan to attack in three days so you will have plenty of time."
"Yes sir!"
Tirent headed to his room, threw his supplies on the floor and threw himself on his bed. He was asleep almost immediately.
The next day, he found Nate who was eating with Spindle and Sorak. " Oh hey there Tirent, I was just telling Sorak that we found out our battle positions for the attack." Nate said. "Gorgo is leading the aerial defense, Spindle and Zephy are manning the cliffs with the other magicians and archers, Sorak is with the ground troops at the beaches, as Morgan will have undoubtedly teach the Empiric magicians where to teleport the ships. And you and I are apart of the sneak attack team."
"Sounds good to me" Tirent answered. Nate got up from the table and winced. "oohhh gonna have to get used to this pain, gonna have for a while."
Tirent knew how he felt, he was covered with aches and pains. Nate took him to the armory and pulled out a map of the Island. "Since the Empire is attacking here" Nate points to one side of the Isle. " So we have our main aerial defense meeting them head on, we also expect them to attack at the shore, so we have the Warriors on the beaches and magicians and archers on the cliffs. They will probably see all that coming though, what they won't see coming is our sneak attack. Half our group will stay in human form and shoot arrows and spells at their fleet. Afterward we will help the beach forces.

"Ok sounds good. How many people are in our team?" Tirent asked.
"about 100, and I'm leading the charge!" Nate exclaimed.
"wow nice!"
The next day Tirent was with Zephy and Sorak gathering up their gear when a messenger ran up to them.
"Sirs, planes have been sighted. Everyone needs to get to their positions."
"Ok thank you" Tirent said. He turned to his friends, "Good luck guys!" and with that they ran off.
When Tirent reached the Sneak attack squadron Nate and most of the other dragonkin were ready.
"ready to go?" asked Nate. "I have to ride you so..."
"yep all set" Tirent answered.
Tirent transformed and spread his wings. Nate hopped onto his back and yelled "LETS GO!!!!" half of the warriors turned into dragons, and the other half jumped on their back. 50 dragons took off and began their course of attack. Tirent stared in awe at a massive fleet of planes at least 500 in number. They might not be able to win this battle after all.

Chapter 11: Assault.

As Nate and Tirent's group neared the fleet of planes, Tirent examined them closely. They were made of wood and had large wings that stuck out into the wind, each wing had a man with a bow and arrows, who was strapped tight to the wood.
As the planes continued to pile out of the clouds, Tirent saw that there were more planes than he had expected. Hundreds came and soon there was at least 500 planes headed toward the Dragon Isle. The main dragon counterattack was a mere 200 in size! Nate patted Tirent's side and said "Increase altitude, we will dive down onto them"
Tirent leaned upward and the the rest of the dragons following him followed suit. Once they got above the clouds, Nate ordered them to dive downward into the mass of Empiric planes. Tirent dove downward into the clouds and then into the battle. He breathed fire at the planes who hadn't yet realized they were being attacked. They went down in flames, but now the other planes knew they were there. Arrows began to whiz by, and some of the surrounding dragons were hit. Nate threw four knives well aimed and one of the planes flew down into the sea. Then Tirent flew behind a plane and grabbed on with his claws, he flung the plane about and launched it into another. Everywhere chaos reigned, Gorgo's group had collided with the fleet and now the air was teaming with arrows, fire and bits of wood. The magicians and archers of the sneak attack squadron road on the backs of the dragons and shot arrows and spells at the surrounding planes. After at least an hour of ducking and dodging, breathing fire and scratching, the battle had finally begun to end. The planes left were fighting with the remnants of the main attack force, so the 40 or so left of the Secret squadron decided to move on to help the men at the beaches.

When they got there they saw 10 ships off the shore and about half of the dragonkin warriors left fighting off a massive amount of Empiric warriors.
Nate yelled " I want half of you to take out the ships, the rest of you come with me" Tirent dove down toward the beach and Nate jumped off his back. Right before Tirent landed, he morphed back into a human and rolled onto the beach pulling out his staff. He, Nate, and the rest of the dragonkin warriors ran forward to aid the rest of the beach dragonkin. As they sprinted, the Empiric warriors noticed them and began to turn toward them. Tirent spun his staff as he charged it with energy, and Nate whipped out his to blades. The warriors around them did the same with their weapons. As they charged, Tirent saw behind the soldiers that Sorak and the rest of the remaining dragonkin were pushing forward on the other side. Then the Empire warriors and the reinforcements collided. Tirent swung his staff upward into the jaw of the soldier in front of him, the man was thrown backward and his jaw was broken. Nate slashed the man in front of him and continued to do the same to the next two. Tirent summoned a ball of fire and flung it into the warrior in front of him, but then a sword slammed into his back. He dropped to the ground and spun around throwing his staff up to defend himself just in time to block another blow. The man who attacked him had two swords, one in each hand.

Chapter 12: Battle

Tirent struggled to his feet and pulled his staff upward facing the soldier who brought his two swords forward. Chaos was all around them, but Tirent didn't notice any of it. His whole attention was on the man in front of him. Tirent conjured a fireball and the tip of his staff and moved to hit his opponent, but the soldier saw it coming and ducked under his swing and stabbed at Tirent's chest. Tirent had to lunge to the side to avoid the strike. He regained his balance and raised his arms and behind him rose five large chunks of rock. As he thrust his arms forward the rocks accelerated toward the soldier who was pounded backward onto the ground. Tirent went to follow up, but another soldier got in his way and paid dearly for his timing. By the time Tirent had dealt with the interference the swordsman had already stood up and was running toward him. Tirent pumped his staff with energy and brought it forward to meet the two blades, but the soldier pulled his swords right next to each other. The man wound back and slammed both swords into the center of Tirent's staff, which splintered, then snapped in half. Tirent froze, he didn't expect that. The man began his finishing blow, but in the nick of time Tirent regained his concentration and dove to the ground rolling behind the soldier and grabbing the two pieces of his staff. His staff may be broken, but that didn't mean he still couldn't use it. Tirent focused on the pieces of wood, and they became metal then elongated and stretched into two shining steel swords. Tirent picked them up, spun them around, testing their weight, then attacked. All four of the swords clanged together as the soldier and Tirent went at it.
