Chapter 30, The Last Battle
An armistice was declared between the armies in Rellekka and the soldiers and commanders rested between the lines making friends with what had only recently been enemies. Zooknock's family came to visit him, and Little Neddy was overcome with tears at the sight of his father. He wept openly until his father took him in his arms and said "Shh, my child, i have fought and killed and now you may live in a world of peace, for the errors of my generation have taught the world the foolishness of excessive war."
Love inspires war and it inspires peace. Because of this, love is the force of balance, so all who felt love in the world felt the forces of peace that spread from the battlefield. There was, however, one creature who did not feel love in the world. Glough was so consumed by holding onto his power he lost all the love in his heart and felt no peace. So when his soldiers deserted him to feast with the humans, Glough's hatred grew. Glough took his personal flyer to the center of the newfound peace, Zooknock's camp. He arrived there a few hours after Zooknock's family.
When Glough saw father and son playing and laughing together, he was overcome with a strange feeling. His heart had had no love for so long his brain couldn't register what he was feeling. His brain, having been pooled in hate for so long, knew no other emotion and channeled the intense feeling, of what should've been tender emotion at seeing the reunion of father and son, into cold hatred. Glough struck out, and with his poisonous dagger struck Neddy in the back of the head. Neddy dropped to the ground at his father's feet and died as his father collapsed on top of him, consumed in convulsive sobs. Zooknock felt pure unbridled hatred at Glough, but after seeing his own son die, he had no more urge for violence. The general of so many battles, killer of so many men, couldn't bring himself to kill the true evil in the world.
