Has poison ever finished off a hero? The laws of physics clearly state that only love interests, sidekicks, or tragically inclined characters are actually hurt by poison :P

First main main character that comes to my mind that died of poison was Romeo! Well.. his anime counterpart was different. BUT STILL!

Romeo falls under both Tragically inclined and Love interest; in general shakespearian characters tend to have stuff like that happen to them in his tragedies so Shakespeare doods don't count :@
