With a newfound vigor the umbrella lady lunged across the room, and down went the security guard. In a screaming struggle he too had his neck gnawed open and a sizeable portion of his blood was vacuumed out in seconds. It would make a fine peace offering to the thirst unquenchable.
The tiniest bit of color returned to the woman’s face as she hauled herself up once more and returned to her mission of bringing the stolen umbrella to her awaiting companion. Her bones seemed to protrude slightly less as she hobbled toward the hotel exit beneath the cacophony of the two screaming, dying employees.
Blood trailed behind her as she slunk back out the hotel entrance and began to cross the murderously sunlit street once more. The weight of the sun was just as heavy as before, but this time she was far more able to bear it, and struggled much less in reaching her destination.
Hanging her head low as she entered the alleyway, she wordlessly offered the umbrella to Simon, who barely hid his fury as he snatched it from her.
“What the
fuck
did you do in there, you stupid
bitch?!
” he demanded, immediately clubbing her across the face with the umbrella handle. “I didn’t tell you to make a scene! I could hear that shit all the way out here!”
Simon gritted his teeth in disappointment when the woman didn’t respond, and quickly turned his fury elsewhere.
“Whatever.” he concluded, fidgeting with the umbrella’s mechanism until it sprung open. Angry and unsure, he slithered toward the open street, hiding in the shade of the umbrella. Even the reflected light off the surface of the concrete was unbearable, but being out of the direct sunlight proved sufficient to keep him from withering.
“Now what...” he wondered aloud, not having thought much further than this. Simon looked up and down the street as if to decide where to go next. Meanwhile, his begrudging servant watched apprehensively from the shadowy alleyway.
