Fourth came a large being of flame; the lower half of it's body was a snake's tail, and the upper half that of a giant with six arms. It's head was that of a bird with razor sharp teeth several inches long coming from it's beak.

Fifth was a voluptuous lady, with long horns sprouting from her head. Her eyes, were like those of a goat, her lips sparkled crimson in the light Muspellheim's suns, and the aroma of perfume hung lightly in the air around her. On her hands were what appeared to be gloves made of dragon leather, Instead of clothing she had a single live snake which had wrapped around her in such a way that it barely concealed the more private areas of her body.

The sixth was a skeletal figure made of gold. It possessed two flawless diamonds where its eyes should be. A crown of pure gold encrusted with every type of gem sat upon its head, and it wore all manner of rings, bracelets, and necklaces.

“Belial is late,” commented the gold figure in a voice that sounded hollow and metallic.

“His arrogance grows each day,” the insect said in a buzzing voice, “Once again he sedns power in lieu of appearing himself. The Void King will hear about this though, mark my words.

More importantly, why have you called us here, Amatsu? Certainly a single incubus is not something that requires the appearance of the seven hell lords?”

“Amatsu has grown arrogant as well,” said a voice which seemed to rise from the depths of the ground, “The Pact of Baphomet insists that we answer the call of the leader of the Warlock Lords, but now he abuses it to call us up for trivial things.”

“I am not required to answer to you, Hellmaw,” snapped Amatsu, “But you should know well enough that I do not call you for trivial affairs. You needn't question me; just deal with Mephos then you may return to your kingdoms in the Void.”

“You grow rusty Amatsu,” said a voice reminiscent of bird song, “Look who was trying to escape.”

The woman had moved while the others were talking, and now stood behind Mephos, holding him in place. Notably, both were a considerable distance away from where Mephos had been standing earlier.

“He tried to flee?” laughed the skeletal figure, “Well, I guess he was always fairly intelligent.”

“Too bad for him,” said the lady, “Hey, Belphegor, wake up and catch!” The lady tossed Mephos with apparent ease, sending him flying toward the stone giant who was sitting close to Amatsu. The giant opened one of its eyes a sliver, and then went back to sleep; but somehow, that act alone had turned Mephos' right arm to stone. Shortly thereafter, Mephos slammed into the giant, and his stone arm shattered.

With a hunted look in his eyes, Mephos caused his right shoulder to turn to mist, thereby dropping the remaining stone stump to the ground. He then turned the rest of his body into mist and seemed to be trying to escape.

“As if I would let you!” cackled the fiery being. Dashing toward the mist, he created a fireball around it. The fire seemed to force the incubus back into a corporal form, and he fell to the ground singed and coughing for breath. He had barely hit the ground when the insect was on top of him. The insect's mouth at the back of its abdomen opened, and a foot-long, deadly looking stinger came out of that mouth. Without giving Mephos a chance to recover, the insect plunged the stinger into the incubus' gut. Mephos coughed up blood and began to convulse.

“So much for one of the legendary Emperors of Darkness,” laughed the skeletal being as he grabbed Mephos' hair and lifted the incubus up. Looking at the large mouth attatched to the ground, the skeletal being asked, “Hey, Hellmaw, want a snack?” and tossed the incubus toward the center of the massive mouth.

As Mephos was thrown, a young man dashed to the edge of Hellmaw's mouth, and managed to catch the incubus just as he was about to sail over the edge, surprising Luxiarch, Zarosian, and demon alike.

“I think you've done quite enough,” the young man said softly. Despite braving seven demons to rescue someone, he was surprisingly plain looking; he wore peasant's clothes that were patched in several places, and carried no visible weapons. Yet, there was something about him which made even the demons think twice about attacking.

Preoccupied as they were with the newcomer, only a handful noticed the ring which Amatsu wore begin to glow softly with prismatic light. Amatsu, however, did notice, and turned pale.

*Who do you think you are?!” the firey being demanded, “You would dare defy the Seven Rulers, I will tear yo-” the firey being stopped mid-sentence as his eyes met those of the young man.

Looking shaken, the Fire King backed down, and looked toward Amatsu.

Ignoring this reaction, the young man said, “I am simply a healer, one who does not like seeing someone pummeled.” Turning to Amatsu, he added, “You've had your revenge for losing this battle, and you've succeeded in your main objective. Leave.”

Trying to appear non-chalant, Amatsu asked “And if I don't, then what? Do you intend to fight us?”

Frowning, the young man pointed at Amatsu, then moved his finger to his left side and said, “Do you want to find out?”

Apparently that motion had some meaning to Amatsu, since all the blood had drained from his face.

“Very well,” muttered Amatsu, “You are welcome to try and heal him, if you want, he is of no threat to me any more.” To his troops he added, “Gather the dead, they'd have wanted to be buried on ground sacred to Zaros. We're leaving.”

Orcris watched all of this carefully, and noted that even the demons who had easily defeated Mephos looked relieved with the order to retreat, and vanished as quickly as they could.

After the Zarosians had retreated out of sight, most of their dead carried by demons that Amatsu had provided, Dionysius, Zenevivia and Nick ran to the young man who had saved Mephos.

“Are you crazy, Iosue?” demanded Zenevivia, “Running into a group of demons like that?”

“More importantly,” added Dionysius, “Why did they flee?”

“We'll talk about that later, first, he needs to be treated,” replied Iosue, removing a vial of thick, red liquid from one of his pouches.

*What kind of potion is that?” asked Dionysius.

“A very simple one,” replied Iosue, “With one ingredient; blood.”

“Blood? How will that help anyone?” asked Nick.

Ignoring the question, Iosue poured the blood down Mephos' throat. Almost immediately, the incubus' eyes opened and he coughed. For a moment, Nick almost thought he saw a hint of recognition in the incubus' eyes, but it vanished almost immediately.

“Don't try to stand yet,” said Iosue, “I've purified the demon venom from you, but your injuries are still severe. A normal person would be dead by now, and even one of the Dark Emperors will take weeks to recover.”

Looking down at his injuries, Mephos nodded and said weakly, “Just get me to Niflheim, I can handle myself from there.”

“And how do you intend to get there?” asked Zenevivia.

Just then, an eerie cackling sounded through the battlefield.

“There's your answer,” Mephos replied weakly, “Kutheostra is nearly here.”

AUTHOR'S NOTES:

I have such mixed feelings about fight scenes. They're a bit hard to write, and often contribute fairly little to the plot. But they keep things a bit exciting right?

But if you're not pro-Zarosian, you have to feel a bit bad for Mephos, gets back in the game and nearly gets himself killed. But honestly, I'm being nice to him; my original plan was for him to get captured and end up spending a month getting tortured by Rue. By comparison this is pretty tame, right? Plot-wise it accomplishes about the same, Mephos is out of the picture for a month, don't think that means he'll stop scheming or be unable to influence events though, he's sneaky ;)

As for Amatsu; he's finally had his chance to shine. How many of you underestimated him before this add? Despite his looks (and being a candy-loving guy who'd rather sit back and relax than fight) Amatsu is actually pretty powerful. Btw, for those of you who read the original Weapons series, Amatsu was one of the other characters I had planned to introduce later (originally, I was going to call him Oriens though.)

Oh, and you will be happy to know, I've manage to get the rest of Weapons plotted (which means hopefully more regular adds.) And have gotten the basics of the next two "books" in the series (there will be two after this, if you want to quit, quit now while you're ahead.) Granted, I don't expect them to be as long as Weapons. I already have the names of the next "book" and it's five chapters (sorry, not telling you what they are though.)

Any, Questions? Comments?

What four letter word aptly describes this add?

The answer: Epic. ******* epic.

I love fighting in books. I am also considered quite skilled at writing fight scenes, and know how hard it can be to write a good one. You did that, and then some.

Good work, Master Niht.

The Zarosian army was unsurprisingly disheartened. They had been close to victory three times, only to suffer defeats at the hands of Seima, Kutheostra, and Mephos. And now, instead of returning victorious, with treasures from looted Muspellheim cities, they returned in disgrace, bearing the corpses of the fallen.

Even Orcris was feel the cloud of the gloom which seemed to hang over the camp, although, as a leader, he knew better than to show it to his men. As such, with grim determination he kept his emotions locked up inside of himself, while seeing to his subordinates' needs as best he could.

Amatsu, on the other hand, seemed less affected by this failed expedition. The only thing different about him was that his normally cheerful demeanor had a slight hint of regret. Orcris couldn't help but wonder why; after all, Amatsu had been the leader of this group, and had been the one to plan their actions; as such, its failure would reflect badly on him, possibly lowering his standing with Zaros considerably.

Orcris kept his thoughts on this matter to himself as long as he could, but at last it bothered him so much that he stormed into Amatsu's tent one "night" (the suns were still out, of course, but many of the troops were asleep) and demanded to know how he could keep up such a relatively cheerful demeanor having been defeated. Ever cryptic, the warlock had replied, "What do you mean 'defeated'? It's true we lost a couple of battles, but this was no defeat, rather an expensive victory."

"How can you call this a victory?" questioned Orcris.

"Wait and see," said Amatsu, "All is going to be revealed tomorrow."

Orcris hung around a bit longer, hoping that Amatsu would say more. After a few minutes of silence, he sighed, and returned to his tent.

Several hours later, as the Zarosians packed up and prepared to abandon their campsite, Amatsu walked out of his tent, with a smirk on his face. Noting the downcast look amongst his men, he shook his head, and still, smiling, asked, “And exactly why do all of you look so upset?”

The Zarosians dropped what they were doing and turned to Amatsu, many of them wondering if the defeats they had suffered had driven the warlock insane.

“It's true that many of our comrades died,” said Amatsu, “And that we failed to take out Stork capital. But, in case you forgot, the Luxiarch war was not really our primary concern. It was a means to an ends. Of course, while I was nearly certain of our success, there were too many chances for something going wrong. Even if we did succeed, it was possible the Luxiarch would go back on their deal, for example. As such, I arranged for something of a contingency plan...

If you would, Gaap.”

A lady none of the Zarosians had ever seen before walked out of Amatsu's tent, holding a long object wrapped in cloth.

“While your armies drew the attention of Zaros' enemies, Lord Amatsu sent me on a mission to find and retrieve this,” said the lady, giving the object to Amatsu.

Most of the Zarosians still seemed puzzled, although a handful, Orcris included, were staring at the object wide-eyed.

Unwrapping the cloth that concealed it, Amatsu revealed a sword; the hilt of which was pure gold, and the blade of which was made of dark, purple crystal, in which small tendrils of lightning occasionally flickered. Holding this sword aloft, Amatsu said, “My friends, I present to you Daemitis, the sword of Zaros.”

At hearing this, the Zarosians erupted into cheers.

Amatsu waited for them to calm down, before saying softly. "My friends, we are war-weary, and have suffered heavy losses. Do not forget that, nor should you forget the sacrifices made for this goal... but nonetheless, do not allow those sacrifices to weigh you down, for as you see, we return to Zaros, victorious."

Having finished, Amatsu reached out toward the center of the camp. There was a flash from his ring, and in the midst of the Zarosians, a large portal appeared,

"This will return us to Senntisten," he said, "Now let us go... back to Zaros, as his victorious army."

In high spirits, the troops marched into the portal.

Back on Gielinor, unbeknownst to the other gods, Zamorak stood in the digsite below the dwarven mines. In front of him was what appeared to be a statue of a large demon, but which, according to Zemourgal, was in actuality an imprisoned demon of immense power. Of such power that it might even be able to halt the Zarosians in their tracks.

It was a long shot, but Zamorak was running out of options, therefore he had called the strongest of his warlocks and those mahjarrat still loyal to him to participate in a ritual which would awaken the demon.

Ignoring concerned looks from Enakhra, Zamorak made his way to Zemourgal and asked, "Are they ready?"

Zemourgal took a few long seconds to reply; he did not normally "waste time by over-thinking things" but even he could see Zamorak's sanity slowly slipping away under the pressure of a returned Zaros.

"As ready as they'll ever be," replied Zemourgal, "Remember, we are dealing with a being of unimaginable power..."

"Yes, that's the point," snapped Zamorak, "A weak being would be of no use to me... start the ritual already."

Zemourgal sighed and exchanged looks with Enakhra, Bilrach, and Hazeel who were waiting for the ritual's start. With a nod from Zemourgal, the other mahjarrat turned to the stone demon and begin to chant. A little ways away, Zamorak leaned back and watched eagerly, so focused on the ritual he failed to notice that there was an intruder in the mines,

Sitting in a dark crevice a ways from the ritual was an odd young man. His skin was pale, and covered in stitches. His left eye was a pale grey-blue, while his right was a deep, blood red. With one hand, he held a small wizard doll, while with the other hand he seemed to futilely trying to smooth out his unkempt black hair.

"They've started," he said softly.

"What?" asked the wizard doll, "Those idiots are actually going through with this? This seems like an obvious Zarosian trap to me."

"Yep, they started," repeated the young man, "Hey, there are four mahjarrat here, you know... You think I could get some of their horns? I always wanted mahjarrat horns."

The doll's mouth fell open at this statement, and it turned to stare at the young man.

"Well I did," the young man said, "They're cool. Besides, they have magical powers... probably."

"Not to nag," replied the doll, "But shouldn't you be more concerned about the ANCIENT, POWERFUL DEMON?"

"Hm..." replied the young man, "Well, I guess I might want his arm."

"I was more referring to stopping the ritual," sighed the doll.

"That'd be a bad idea," answered the young man, "If the ritual is stopped halfway, it would leave several rifts to the Void open, the result would be a slow, but steady corruption of all things in this area. However... we might want to let the white knights know that a giant demon is about to break out into Falador... or make something up so the people will evacuate."

"That'll be extremely difficult," sighed the doll, "But I'll see what I can do... where is the master right now? This is the sort of time we need him around."
