“Your boldness increases with age it seems,” said Zaros, his voice, cold and stoic, but radiating with more power than the cloudless storm which raged around him, “To think you would appear at the seat of my power, Armadyl.”

“Your injustice and violence became impossible to ignore,” replied the bird, its voice as musical as that of a songbird, but like Zaros' radiating with power. “So I have returned to squelch it once more.”

“You, squelch the power of the Great Lord?” demanded Zaros, “Impossible, you never had my power, and it was a fluke, not you that brought my demise before.”

“A fluke?” asked Armadyl, “There are no such things as flukes. Do you really believe that my staff was lying around unguarded, by accident? Do you really believe that it just so happened that the person finding it triggered the events that brought it to Zamorak's hands? Do you think that you, a god, tripping was but an accident? Or that the power flowing from you into Zamorak and not the reverse was mere coincidence?”

Zaros' eyes widened in rage at these questions, if what Armadyl hinted at was true something else had planned Zaros' demise... an unwelcome development that would mean one more being to deal with in his return to power.

“Speaking of those who helped bring your demise,” said Armadyl. With this, his form shifted to that of a young man, and in his hands was the coveted staff which belonged to him. Zaros' rage and desire mixed at the sight; he knew the staff was more powerful than Armadyl, and as ancient as the Stone of Jas. He likewise knew that it granted power and authority to whomever had it; in the hands of a mortal, that mortal could become a god. In the hands of a god like Armadyl, it could grant the power to match even Zaros. And in the hands of Zaros or Guthix, the entire of Gielinor would be shaped by their will alone.

“By the authority that this staff symbolizes,” said Armadyl, “And by the status as judge of Gielinor that I received with it; I declare those who brought down Zaros innocent of wrong-doing, and free from his curse!” With these words, Armadyl lifted the staff, and Gielinor was covered in an aura. The aura was neither light nor dark; it was as if music had become visible, and now blanketed Gielinor with its beauty.

At various places throughout the world, the aura descended and wrapped around six ancient ghosts, dissolving the curses upon them as easily as lamplight dispels darkness. Freed from their curses, the ghosts let out a joyful song which brought hope and happiness to all who happened to hear it, and then vanished, passing onto the afterlife that had been denied them for so long.

Zaros glared at the staff with envy, knowing that if he could take it, the world would be his entirely, and utterly. But likewise knowing that he was not able to take it in his current state.

“Zaros,” said Armadyl, “The law I have been set over is absolute, not even you are freed from it; should you persist in your current ways, I shall bring judgment against you for your transgressions.”

“Bring judgment against me?!” laughed Zaros, “You do not have the power, not even with that staff! All who oppose my rule shall fall, you as well Armadyl, along with your so-called justice.”

“Is that so?” asked Armadyl, “I am beyond your grasp, as you know.*

*But your followers aren't!” exclaimed Zaros, “Or have you forgotten what I did before to your beloved Aviansie? History will repeat itself, Armadyl, and you will once again flee this world in tears!”

Anger seemed to radiate from Armadyl at this statement, but his composure did not falter for a moment. “Those who persist in evil, and turn away from every opportunity of redemption, have already pronounced a grave judgment upon themselves. You should remember this Zaros.” With these words, Armadyl vanished, and immediately afterword Zaros reverted to his Parsis form, leaving the stunned Zarosians below pondering if they had really seen the two gods conversing, or whether they had dreamed it all.

“Evil, huh?” said Parsis softly, turning to walk down from the wall. “Good and evil are relative, Armadyl, there is no objective good nor objective evil as you claim. And as such, they are arbitrary and can be defined at whim. Something is good because the gods command it; that is what you and Saradomin do not understand. I have given my command; to honor and worship the Great Lord Zaros is good, and all who do not are evil, and must be converted or wiped off the face of Gielinor.” Pausing for a moment, Parsis added in a mocking tone, “This is the Law of Zaros, which is greater than the Law of Armadyl.” After this, he remained silent as he returned to his temple.

“Tsk, the gods and their games,” sighed the old lady, watching as the sky returned to its normal color, “I swear, one day they will get their's.”

“They do seem to like toying with us,” replied Nick, as he sped up his pace to keep up with the lady. Despite her advanced age, Zenevivia was still more fit than many women in their prime, and traversed the rocky terrain before them with ease.

“But,” added Nick, “Aren't we about to be helping one of them?”

“Help?” laughed Zenevivia, “Not on your life. We're simply making use of Saradomin to get our hands on the Weapons of Destiny. You get the sword Armadyl made, we get one of the bows for your friend, and Dissy and I will take the staffs.”

“And how does this temple we are going to help us do that?” asked Nick.

“Some of the weapons have ended up in other worlds,” replied Zenevivia, “Dissy and I will combine our magical powers to create a portal from this temple to one of those worlds. Then there's a simple matter of finding the weapon and returning here.

“I see,” said Nick, “And that's the temple?” he added, looking off to the enormous structure before him.

“It is,” replied Zenevivia, “That is the Temple of Destruction, said to be built by the elder gods when they shaped the world; although others claim it was built by Guthix as late as the First Age. Regardless, it is our destination.”

Nick remained silent for the rest of the journey until they had reached the temple. However, he gasped upon seeing it; the temple was masterfully carved so that the whole of the building's exterior looked like a massive battle be fought by numerous statues. All were so life-like that Nick found himself half expecting one to spring out and attack him.

“Zenny, you made it!” a voice called out.

Nick turned to the source of the voice and found a small group at the temple's entrance, consisting of an old man, a young knight, and a young woman in ranger gear. All were marked by the symbol of Saradomin and the latter two were exchanging confused looks.

“Hello Dissy,” said Zenevivia, “I'm surprised you're not inside.”

“Ah, about that,” said the old man, “There is a little complication I didn't want to deal with by myself.”

“What kind of complication?” asked Zenevivia.

“See for yourself,” replied Dionysius, motioning toward the door.

Zenevivia moved in closer to get a good look, and Nick followed her.

Floating in front of the door, glowing in deep red light was a seal of some sort; it depicted a palace suspended in air under a stormy sky. While Nick pondered what this meant, Zenevivia commented, “Well, we should have seen this coming, shouldn't we?”

“Indeed,” commented Dionysius.

*What does it mean?” asked Nick.

“These temples were originally the abode of evil gods,* explained Dionysius, *This temple in particular was abode of a demon god called Akyak, known as the god of destruction. However, when another race, known as the Prantiqeth arrived, they set out to banish the demon gods from this realm, to do so they summoned four powerful beings known as the masters of darkness.”

“The source of all dark magic,” Zenevivia commented, admiringly, “This seal belongs to one of them; Ebon Fortress Kutheostra, who fought Akyak here in this temple. Dissy and I knew about this fight, but we had not anticipated that she might have sealed the temple as well.”

“Since she did, it is likely that all the temple's were sealed,” commented Dionysius, *That would include the Temple of Akyros that held the black pentagram, I can only imagine how many Zarosians died undoing that seal in the Second Age.”

“Does that mean that you will be in danger trying to undo the seal?” asked Tony.

“Not likely,” replied Zenevivia, “The one who sealed the Temple of Akyros would have been Black Sun Seima, among the masters of darkness, she is second only to the Dark Mother. This will be a time consuming process for Dissy and I, but we will succeed without much danger to ourselves... I suggest you set camp here, it could be as long as a day before we get this seal off.“

Realizing nothing else was to be done for now, Nick lay by the walls of the temple, and ignoring the others, was soon fast asleep.

An exceptionally good add today Aqua....quite interesting indeed.

I very much liked the idea of "Armadyl's" staff not really being his staff in the first place. Indeed, the only other explanation (atleast in my imagination) would be through a theory of "Magical Growth" (but again thats just me :P )

Keep up the good work.
