At this, there was a blinding light, and Amatsu stood in the center of the field; engulfed in brilliant blue flames. Even from a distance the heat of those flames was as intense as if the Zarosians were standing at the mouth of a raging furnace. All around, plants were catching ablaze and being reduced to ashes even as they watched. At that moment, there was no doubt in the minds of many Zarosians; Amatsu was stronger than even most of the Mahjarrat, and perhaps was a match for Azzandra himself.

Then something else caught their eyes; standing in contrast to Amatsu, parts of Mephos' body seemed to have dissolved into a dark mist. All around him, shadows seemed to extend over half of the sky, obscuring six of Muspellheim's suns and shrouding a portion of the land which only knew eternal day into darkness as deep as any midnight. Within those shadows, the City of Stork seemed to become cold; the guards' breath became visible as small clouds every time they exhaled, and the plants before the city gates became coated in frost.

Neither of the combatants moved, both gauging the other's position, waiting for a moment to strike, neither willing to make a sound. The silence over the land was the calm before a storm, and all present were afraid that once that calm was broken, once the storm was unleashed, they would not escape unharmed.

Good. Glad to see an add and glad to know for sure that more are coming.

This is an unfortunate event. Reminds me of something Jarlaxle says "An illusion you think is real can kill you." Terrifying really as it seems most individuals would require very little effort to capture in an illusion especially when they are expecting certain things to happen. Good show by Orcris, unfortunate result however. Doesn't seem fair really ha.

A distance from the battleground, Jayson stood in the shadows of the jungle, watching Mephos and Amatsu. The Guthixian's green tunic was torn and scabs from recent wounds were visible on his exposed flesh.

“Do you think Mephos can win?” asked Jen, also covered in scratches, but less so than the chosen of Guthix.

“By one standard, he's already lost,” replied Jayson. “That Zarosian commander is far more cunning than anyone gave him credit for... as we found out the hard way. They had won almost as soon as they started marching.”

“You know what I meant,” said Jen, “Can Mephos defeat Amatsu?”

Jayson paused. Placing his hands on his amulet, he looked as if he was straining to hear something.

“Mephos is at a disadvantage,” he finally said, “Just as that Zarosian said; he's weak from his “long sleep.” He's not near full power, and he's out of his element. Normally, his fighting incorporates calling upon the dark gods, thaumaturgy and the three schools of dark magic; illusions, shadows, and death. Right now, he's practically starved of life force, and due to being in the land of light, the dark gods will be unable to intervene, and his dark magic will be far weaker...”

Back on the battlefield, Amatsu finally broke the silence, saying, “Actually, Mephos, there's something I wanted to ask you.”

“What would that be?” asked the incubus.

“According to what I've been told on Gielinor, I've gathered that you were put in a near death experience, and your memories and spirit were split from you, making you into a weaker version of yourself,” said Amatsu, “One going by the name Liam.”

“And?” asked Mephos.

“Something has been bothering me about that story,” said Amatsu, “A ritual involving memories in crystal form, a body without memories or a heart, and a corporal soul... I know of one ritual spell that requires those components, but it's not a ritual to make someone whole, but rather a ritual of su-”

A black beam erupted from Mephos' hands, blasting the spot were Amatsu had been standing mere moments before. Had the warlock not managed to move in the blink of an eye, he would've been little more than a smear on the ground. As it was, he had moved, and was already preparing a counter-spell to take advantage of Mephos letting down his guard to attack.

Orcris frowned as he looked at the battlefield. All around him, he could hear his troops talk in relieved tones about how fortunate it was that Amatsu had escaped that “sneak attack.” The half elf suspected differently; the attack Mephos had made was powerful, but it was also sloppy. Not the sort of attack he expected from an experienced mage who was low on energy. Orcris couldn't know for certain, but he was pretty sure that Amatsu had purposely almost revealed something that Mephos didn't want anyone to know.

“Isn't it time to give up Mephos?” asked Amatsu, “A real fight between a council member and one of the seven great warlocks would certainly result in a cataclysm... there will be nothing left of this city, this area will become a black scar... a blight upon this land for generations to come.”

“Ah, but as you mentioned earlier, this is the land of my enemy,” retorted Mepho*, *That takes away a lot of incentive for me to hold back.”

“Have it your way,” sighed Amatsu, “I call thee forth; flaming breath of the seven-headed king of serpents, claim this enemy, and turn him into ash.”

The flames around Amatsu grew in intensity, so illuminating the area around the warlock, that it was as if a fourteenth sun had appeared in the skies of Muspellheim. This radiant blue star did away with all shadows, making even the shadowy area around Mephos as bright as day. And from this star came forth seven plumes of flame, twisting and writhing like serpents; these flames raced toward Mephos, turning all that they passed to cinders. “Had this battle occurred somewhere else, you may have survived,” said Amatsu, “But here, not even you can withstand these primordial flames.”

Mephos made no motion to evade. Even as the shadows around him vanished and the gateway itself caught aflame. When the flames had almost reached him he made an audible sigh and said, “Have you already forgotten, Amatsu? While a warlock must fight alone, relying on only his own strength, a mage is not so limited,” Turning to the blinding flames with a look of defiance Mephos said loudly, “May the great mother, queen of the stars, grant protection to her child.”

The flames engulfed him as the word “child” escaped his lips. But even while the ground below him turned to ash, and the stone walls around him melted and made pools of magma, the flames never reached Mephos. When they finally died down, Mephos stood on an island of soot which rose from a pool of magma, yet was unharmed.

A mantle made of shining gold was wrapped around him with all the care that a mother would afford a child as he woke from a nightmare. For reasons unknown to those watching the battle, the flames which had burned through stone could not so much as singe the mantle.

Among all the Zarosians, only Amatsu recognized this mantle; it was the mantle of the sun, which had been worn by the queen of a holy city as she fled from an invading dragon god; and no flame, not even those of the Void itself could penetrate it's lustrous thread.

Having staved off the warlock's attack, the mantle vanished, and staring toward the heavens, Mephos called out, “In the name of the twelve celestial lords, I command the stars of the heavens to alter their ordained paths and lay waste to my enemies!”

With these words, the clear blue sky of Muspellheim was filled with a multitude of stars, all of which seemed to grow larger by the second. To their horror, all the Zarosians could do was watch as glowing balls of fire fell in their midst, slaughtering them by the dozens.

Amatsu dodged the first few of these falling stars, then, with a howl of rage shouted, “Must you still resort to parlor tricks against me Mephos?! Begone, filthy shadows!”

The stars vanished as quickly as they had appeared, leaving no sign of their passing, but nonetheless leaving only half of the Zarosians alive.

Furious, Amatsu turned to Mephos, who simply smirked and asked, “Haven't you noticed yet?”

Perplexed, Amatsu looked around, and to his shock, found that the lower half of his body was encased in a pillar of stone. Certain that this was but another illusion, he tried to dispel it as he had done to the others. The stone pillar, however, remained were it was, regardless of his attempts. It was then that Amatsu realized what had happened; Mephos had not intended to defeat him with the illusion of falling stars, rather, they had been to distract the warlock while Mephos immobilized him. Turning back to the incubus, Amatsu realized that his analysis was correct; already Mephos was preparing his next spell.

Before Amatsu could escape, a bolt of lighting fell from the heavens. It was so wide that it was as if a shining pillar had placed to connect the zenith of the heavens with the earth below. For seven seconds it remained fixed in place, with Amatsu trapped in it's midst. After this, it vanished as quickly as it had come, sending a peal of thunder which shook the very foundations of the land of light, and knocked the Zarosians to the ground.

After the shaking had stopped, the surviving Zarosians nervously rose and looked at the spot where the bolt of lightning had hit. To their great surprise, Amatsu had survived; his fine clothes were in tatters, and blood trickled from numerous wounds, but other than that he was alive and well.

“Enough!” shouted Amatsu, *This game has gone one for long enough! Did you think I wouldn't realize your goal? Your attacks had no chance of killing me, they were merely to distract me while you used illusions to kill my troops!

Did you think I would allow you to harm them without retribution? I will mark it on your being Mephos, you shall remember this terror! Cower before the wrath of a Warlock Lord!”

Pointing at the ground Amatsu said, “Hear me now, thou seven gods of the Void, remember the promises that thou swore unto me, and arise to fulfill it:

Stone King Belphegor, 'none shall move against thee, none shall have thoughts against thee, none shall question thee, nor move from thy paths.'

Ocean King Hellmaw, 'what makes thy eyes hunger shall be devoured, once open, thou shalt continue to receive, from now until the end. All that they have is thine, and shall run headfirst to thy coffers.'

Insect King Bael; 'like locusts shall thee fall upon the land, that which is desirable shall go to thyself and thyself alone. Where thou shalt pass, none shall be left but withered stalks and scorched earth.'

Flame King Aamon; 'upon those that offend thee, a thousand flames from the depths of hell; a hand taken for a finger lost, a tongue taken for an insult given, a life for a scratch, and a soul for a defeat.'

Pleasure King Asmodai; 'warm silk for thy bed, velvet wineskins for thy love, satin pillows for thine embrace, warmed milk to relax thee, and endless drink to coax the flames within thee.'

Gold King Mammon, 'that which shines for thy eyes only. The bent copper of the peasant made to a ring for thy finger, the wages of the laborer a crown for thy head. A glittering pile that ever grows larger, a mountain of precious metals and stones.'

Demon King Belial; 'ten crowns for thy head, a third of heaven to serve thee, stinging locusts to herald thee. A morning star for thy pendant, the world for thy throne, all peoples to serve thee, and thy enemies consumed by ancient fires.'

The god of demons as my armor, the gods of hell as my guard, come forth; asulan sahuta'im alunuut gahast yeksin veksa'a yedyehut!”

A circlet of blue flame appeared on Amatsu's head, a shining crystalline armor upon his body, and six wings made of brilliant white flames sprouted from his back. Around him, six sigils made of flame were carved into the ground, and from each of these rose an being of incredible power, one after another.

First came a giant made of grey stone. Thick layers dust hung upon the giant, broken only by thriving, thorny vines which ran across its body. In the giant's hands was a large stone bowl that contained the congealed mass of some ancient meal. Despite being the first called, the giant remained motionless, it's eyes closed, and it's body not moving even to breathe.

Second came what at first appeared to be a dark hole, but on closer inspection was revealed to be a large, gaping mouth, colossal enough to swallow a city whole. Around the edge of this mouth, a ring of eyes appeared, darting every which way until they had all turned to Mephos.

Third was a creature similar in appearance to a massive insect, but where an insect has six legs, this being had a multitude. Furthermore, it's head possessed two faces, one on each side, it's thorax had three, one facing forward, and two facing backward, and its abdomen thirteen, located in three rings of four and a final face at the very end of the abdomen.
