“It was like fighting a demon… so many of us died within the first few minutes of battle. That… thing, seemed to enjoy the killing, and our pain. When it became apparent we couldn’t win, he began to toy with us; to hack off limbs of our comrades and force us to watch as they bled to death. He took one young druid, a mere initiate, and held him a short distance from one of our burning houses and watched with glee as he was slowly cooked by the heat. That monster did other, worse things as well, but I dare not utter them, I only wish that they would leave my mind forever…

It was when we had finally given up hope that the black haired boy appeared. He muttered something about pointless detours, then attacked that monster. To watch those two fight… it made me understand, if only a little, why the Zamorakians adore violence. Our defender moved with a grace I had not thought humanly possible; blow after blow rained upon the monster, and whenever it tried to counter attack, our defender seemed to melt away from it, like a shadow before light, only to quickly return to the offensive.

After some time of this, our attacker let out a deafening howl and charged toward us. That black haired boy knocked it aside and turning to us shouted, “Why are you still here?! Flee to the mountain pass in the west; don’t waste the lives I just saved!” That shout seemed to break us out of a trance brought on by horror and revulsion, and we as one unit stood and did as he said.”

“So… he really did save you…” muttered Herba, “And in exchange, I said some terrible things to him and attacked him… I feel so stupid and immature.”

Sanfew put his hand on Herba’s shoulder, and smiling, said, “We all make mistakes Herba, what is important is that we correct them.”

“Thank you,” said Herba, standing up. “I do feel a bit better.” "He appears in the Form of a Man with many Countenances; and he hath a Book in his right hand. His Office is to teach all Arts and Sciences unto any; and to declare the Secret Counsel of any one."

“Pardon the interruption,” said a dwarf, sticking his head into the doorway, “But if you please, Lord Sanfew, there’s a young man here claiming to be a messenger of Zaros. He is asking to speak with the Guthixian leaders here; so I figure he wants to talk with you.”

“A Zarosian? How odd,” mused Sanfew, “Tell him I’ll be out in a minute.” As the dwarf left, Sanfew turned back to Herba and asked, “Shall you be coming too? I’d like to know what this Zarosian wants.”

“Yes,” said Herba, “Please, let’s go.”

The Zarosian looked over his bow as he waited for the Guthixians to arrive. Pausing for a moment, he tightened the bow string, and pulled it back, testing the tautness. Satisfied with his work he returned to the process of examining it and was thus focused when Jayson walked into the room. The Guthixian looked him over quickly, trying to decide what to make of this blond, pale young man in front of him.

“Ah, you must be Lord Jayson,” said the Zarosian putting down his bow.

“I am,” replied Jayson, “Please wait a moment, my companions will be arriving shortly.”

The Zarosian nodded, and turned to another door that had just opened. As he did so, a smile broke across his face, and waving at the person walking through the door he said, “Hey Chris, long time no see!”

“Kevin?!” Chris exclaimed in surprise, “What are you doing here?”

“Taking a break from my normal duties to play messenger boy,” replied Kevin, “What about you? It seems Guthix decided to make you part of his search party.”

“So he did, I guess my work in the Monolith incident caught his attention,” said Chris.

*I take it you two know each other?” asked Jen as she walked into the room.

“Yeah,” said Kevin, “It’s a long story though, and this isn’t the time. We have more important matters at hand.”

“And what would those be?” asked Herba, as she walked into the room, with Sanfew close behind.

“I would gladly tell you,” replied Kevin, “But I’m under explicit orders not to start until Guthix is present.” "He appears in the Form of a Man with many Countenances; and he hath a Book in his right hand. “Then you will never start,” said Sanfew, “Guthix does not manifest himself on Gielinor.”

“That’s not what the Cult of Darkness’ intel says about that matter,” replied Kevin.

“The Cult?!” questioned Sanfew, “What do they have to do with this?!*

*I take it you know of this cult?” asked Jayson.

“A shady group specializing in espionage, assassination and magic,” said Sanfew.

Before he could continue, a second voice spoke, “Who doth act as the emissaries of darkness in this world, and art vital to the balance.”

The Guthixians all recognized the voice, and stared in shock as a man covered in a green cloak appeared in the room.

“Lord Guthix,” gasped Herba.

The god of balance nodded in acknowledgment before turning to Kevin and saying, “Thou hast caught mine attention by mentioning that the Cult is aiding thee. Speak then and explain what it is that thou followers of Zaros and the Cult of Darkness wish.”

“Lord Guthix,” said Kevin, bowing to the god. “As I have stated, I am a messenger of Zaros. My lord wishes your help in returning to Gielinor.”

The Guthixians were immediately taken aback, and even Guthix appeared puzzled by this request.

“I doth not understand,” mused Guthix, “Since I didst awake and end the wars of long ago, I have not permitted new gods to rise up, why shalt I do so now?”

“As you may know, Lord Guthix,” replied Kevin, “Zamorak is an imposter god. He was but a mortal, who by luck managed to steal some of Lord Zaros’ power, and upon taking it declared himself a god. This was not only an assault to the way of the gods, it disrupted the balance.”

“Explain thyself,” said Guthix.

“Since the beginning of time, the world was split between four gods,” said Kevin, “Aither, god of light; Erebos, god of darkness; Ananke, goddess of order; and Khaos, goddess of chaos. Erebos and Aither balance one another, as do Khaos and Ananke, and because of this the world remains in balance.”

“This I know,” said Guthix. "He appears in the Form of a Man with many Countenances; and he hath a Book in his right hand. His Office is to teach all Arts and Sciences unto any; and to declare the Secret Counsel of any one."

“Then you know that in order for balance to exist in any world, for every god associated with one of those four, there must be one of equal power associated with the opposing god; in other words, for every god of light, there must be one of darkness. For every god of chaos, there must be one of order,” said Kevin, “Originally, Saradomin, who even now proclaims himself a god of light, was balanced by Zaros. While Bandos, as god of war acted as a deity of chaos, and was offset by Armadyl, god of justice. However, when Zamorak usurped Zaros, he declared himself a god of chaos, and the balance was broken, for afterward there were two gods of chaos, and only one god of order. Likewise, there was a god of light but not one of darkness.”

“Do you have proof that this Zaros is a god of darkness?” asked Guthix.

Kevin smiled and produced a sealed envelope, which Guthix opened.

“This is a document signed by the leaders of the Cult of Darkness, affirming Zaros as a true god of darkness, and petitioning your aid in restoring the balance between light and darkness,” explained Kevin.

Guthix looked it over and nodded. “What doth thou propose?” he asked, drawing surprised looks from the Guthixians.

“The Dark Weapons,” began Kevin, “They can be used to return Zaros to this world, although they will be destroyed in doing so. We propose that you turn over any Dark Weapons you discover, and in exchange we shall turn over any Light Weapons we discover. You may seal the latter, and we will destroy the former to resurrect Zaros. Thus, balance will be restored.”

“I whilt consider thy proposal,” said Guthix, “For now, know that mine followers shalt not hinder Zaros’ if he doth not hinder mine.” "He appears in the Form of a Man with many Countenances; and he hath a Book in his right hand. “We agree of course,” replied Kevin.

“Whom shalt I contact when I hath made mine decision?” asked Guthix.

“Lord Parsis,” replied Kevin, “He may be found in Senntisten.”

“Then it shalt be so,” said Guthix. As this was said, the god of balance vanished before the eyes of those gathered.

“What just happened?” asked Jayson.

“Lord Guthix agreed to a non-aggression pact with us Zarosians,” replied Kevin.

“But why?” asked Herba.

“Because Zamorak is an imposter god who upsets the balance,” answered Sanfew, “Armadyl and Bandos are both very weak right now, and cancel each other out. Zamorak and Saradomin on the other hand, while opposed, do not embody opposite ideals, so they do not really balance each other out. Thus, Zaros should be returned to Gielinor to restore, the balance. Or at least, that is what the Zarosians and the Cult of Darkness are arguing.”

“Yes, and I’ll have to inform Lord Parsis of this decision,” said Kevin, “So, I’ll have to leave shortly… oh and Chris, let's meet later on and catch up, it’s been a while since you and I talked.”

“You’re right,” said Chris, “Whenever you get a break then.”

“It’s a deal,” said Kevin, “Well, later.” And with this, the Zarosian made his way out of the pass. "He appears in the Form of a Man with many Countenances; and he hath a Book in his right hand. His Office is to teach all Arts and Sciences unto any; and to declare the Secret Counsel of any one."

Bah!.....politics.....

I liked the beginning, guessing that monster was the one from near the beginning of the story?

When you mentioned a sealed envelop from the cult I pictured an office fill with their workers filing papers....

Now Guthix will read the letter, and start stamping papers that read "Conflict with Zarosians" with "Void'...

I thought of many loopholes with all the "balance" issues Kevin described yet none seem irrelevent enough to post so all in all a good add...

Can't wait till next weeks...

8 to 10 hours a day for 10 days straight isn't really my cup of tea...

However, I'm sure you can tell from previous posts that my interpretations are merely influenced from what first comes to mind after reading your adds...

Unfortunatley, my speculation/predicting/interpretation/(whatever else you can call it) talents are not as refined as say Prefix or Orcris...

I am (or atleast I hope I am), understanding the story and its main plot/s......

Even so, I don't like the idea of trying to accuratley say something about the story when (atleast with your creative writing) I'm fairly positive it'll be completley off or wrong...

Rose lay back on a large cushioned chair and asked, “Are we all here then?” Hearing no response, she sat up and glowered at the inhabitants of the room. “I said,” she shouted, “Are we all here?”

“And we heard you,” retorted a clown whose clothes seemed to be made of pieces of cloth of all colors, sizes and shapes, sown together randomly to make something that looked more like a pile of laundry than an actual outfit. “It’s just that you’re too boring to answer.” Having said this, the clown picked up a mouse and began to send jolts of electricity through it, giggling when it squealed in pain.

Ginko looked around, still wearing his multi-colored suit then said gravely, “String ginkoReply equals “I believe we’re all here.” semicolon. System dot out dot println open parenthesis ginkoReply close parenthesis semicolon. Run.”

“What the heck does that mean?” asked a bespectacled boy with curly hair.

“Mr. Fask is speaking in java I believe,” replied a girl with short red hair, “By the way Mr. Imayc Lown, stop torturing that cute mouse.”

“Why?” asked the clown.

Smiling sweetly, the girl said, “Please stop torturing it, or I will slice your stomach open, rip out your intestines, and choke you with them until you pass out. Then wake you by tossing you into an ice-cold pool filled with electric eels, wait until you nearly drown to pull you out, then begin breaking your bones, starting with the tips of your fingers and toes and working my way inward until I have snapped all your ribs. After that I’ll cut off your censored, stuff it down your throat, and pour molten lead in after it.”

“Sheesh,” groaned the clown, “Fun-sucker… by the way, why did you say censored instead of just telling me what you would cut off and shove done my throat?”
