Henry

Henry's eyes widened as they entered the demon's nest of gore. Flesh and blood covered the place. Henry put his wrist to his face to spare his nostrils from the putrid smell. In all his years he had never seen something so sick and twisted.

Decan Martha pointed out that the flesh had not been torn from human beings, but instead was growing from the trees themselves. That was just a tiny bit comforting, but the scene was no less horrid. Still smelled like **** too.

The decan put her troops into position. They hid amongst the trees and bushed, ready to strike. Henry knew that the Tyrannian army's troops were the most professional in Engelain, but he still felt uneasy in relying on ten men to protect them from such a monstrosity.

"Who said I was worried?" Henry reassured Alania with a smile, completely lying. Had to keep the mood positive, right?

He held his shield firm as they waited, but left his weapons sheathed. The next few moments were tense. He watched every flicker of a leaf or blade of grass. Not even the wind could be trusted.

Then, finally, their quarry manifested. "So this is the man of your dreams, Alania? I have to admit he's tall." Henry spoke without a hint of fear, though perhaps he was acting. The grotesque, nine-foot demonic dragon continued to walk forwards. Henry's hand came to rest upon the hilt of his sword, as the demon finally came to a stop. If only he had a twelve-foot lance lying around...

The demon spoke of a demigod, the Deceiver. Soahc? The demon's "mechanical form" was leading him into some sort of a trap? Henry began to turn to Alania, but quickly looked back at the demon, not wanting to take his eyes off it.

Zed

Frankly, Zed felt no sympathy for the hags' impending extinction. If the Hagfather wasn't sentient and inherently malicious, then it was just some mindless beast. The world would be better off without a source of incredible power for malevolent hags to tap into. If there were any hagspawn with good left in them like Etheldredda, they'd agree.

As the group set out, Zed held his staff ready. Joric cracked two more puns, but the mage wasn't bothered—it had been a while since his last one. "Should've saved some for the Hags." He told the Dwarf.

As for the mist, it seemed a simple matter of blowing them away with wind. If that didn't work, he would try to dispel the dark magic fueling it. And if that didn't work, he'd probably just set the forest on fire.

''Better a stoat than a fool. To challenge the gods is folly and you lead people to their death. No better than the Lord of Hamstead forcing peasants to march into battle.'' Rovaan returned Armando's insult with another as he rode away.

''The man's a damned fool if he thinks he can take on a god, even a fallen one. The affairs of gods are not for mortals to meddle in. Besides, the gods could be damned to oblivion for all I care, they were never any help to me when I needed them most. Besides, a creature that apparently feeds on magic is of greater concern right now is it not Tempora? After all without magic you are nothing more than a shriveled old twig. You agreed to accompany us, so I don't want to hear it anymore that what we are doing means nothing.'' Rovaan told Tempora as he followed the small party, listening in on what Etherldredda had to say about the traps and where she wanted people placed.

The traps sounded deadly enough, though Rovaan had to admire the ingenuity of the hags. They definitely did not want people in unless they were in the company of hagspawn. All manner of defenses and ambushes where they knew every inch of territory, truly a home-field advantage. But then his mind turned to what would become of the entire race should they succeed in their task. An entire race doomed to extinction, then again, Rovaan had seen destruction on a massive scale once before, in Acaria.

As Rovaan moved to the rear of the party and took his bow in hand with arrow notched to the string, his mind could not help but drift back to his home. Walking through these cursed woods reminded him of the road leading to the Capital of Acaria and the last day he laid eyes upon his former home. They day the Greywinter fell upon the kingdom of his birth, sealing it off from the outside world.

Acaria had once been a beautiful kingdom tucked away in the mountains. Its alabaster walls shining bright whenever the light of the sun struck, the craftsmanship of the architecture and fabled stained glass a sight to behold. The busy markets and streets during the day, and the serene calm at night. It was a sight to behold by travelers to say the least, it was a hub for trading in precious metals and gems as the mines were plentiful. But all that was now a distant memory. For when Rovaan was exiled, all hell broke loose, quite literally. For those that sought to use Rovaan's demonic might as a means in which to expand the kingdom, lost their weapon of choice that day. So in attempt to summon a replacement, they brought only despair and destruction as lesser demons and undead flooded the kingdom. In their desperate need for control, the mages opened the forbidden scrolls and cast a spell known as Greywinter. It stopped the demons and undead but at the cost of the millions of lives in the kingdom.

An entire kingdom laid waste by men's desire for control over another and for greed. The dormant kingdom soon became a treasure hunter's dream as stories were told of the riches waiting to be claimed. Only the brave and the foolish attempted to traverse the ashen fog of the catastrophic spell in search of treasures and glory, no one ever returned. The tale faded from story to myth, in the ten years since the spell was cast and two years after that is was forgotten, Acaria simply ceased to exist except only in hushed tones and in the back rooms of taverns.

Despite seeing a kingdom laid to waste, in a near instant, Rovaan pushed onward with the groups end goal in mind. In the back of his mind, he thought about being responsible for the extinction of an entire race. But perhaps it would not be an instant destruction but destruction over time. Who knows, whatever hagspawn that remained might find a way to integrate into society. But that would come later, right now there was a mission at hand.

Annie was listening what the everyone was saying about they shouldn't go after the hags but Soahc. Armando Godkiller who asked Joric to go with him left and went north to stop Soahc She heard what Tempora said the man was right, if we kill the Hagfather the race dies too. Etheldredda was happy to see that race is gone forever. She saw her new teacher come by her side. She didn't know what to say or think.

Then Etheldredda told Annie to blow the leaves that was in front of them. She stood up from where she was resting. She made a huge wind and blew the leaves away that was ahead of them. She said to Etheldredda,"All done." She thought for a few minutes and asked Tempora Sage,"when are we going to start my training? What am I supposed to call you?"

--------

Judy repiled looking at Cadmus Lenian," That will work. I will help you to get your revenge for your parents. I know where he is, he is with the group I just left. They are going to attack the Hagfather. So what's the plan? I have information for Soahc that he needs."

On the Road

A slight smile graced Siera’s lips as Thorek spoke, although she was unsure why. Perhaps it was simply because his speaking to her was unhurried and relaxed, something that she had not heard for a while. World-saving tasks and demon lords did not make for calm and relaxed storytelling, and it wasn’t until he spoke of it that she realized how much she actually missed such things.

She spoke naught on the subject of history, for the history of this world was something she knew little of. Her experience was limited, mostly staying within the reach of what songs could provide to the people. Learning such things had been something she had done eagerly, even if it had only been done so that she would be able to play something in inns that people actually knew. She also had no involvement in the events of the far past, whether by action or legacy, and so would not dispute the views of others on such subjects.

Accepting his offer of a seat, she climbed up onto the cart and sat down, withdrawing the paper and pen as she did so. Now that she was in close proximity, writing would be possible, and she would not have to use magic to communicate anymore.

That is, she was about to, but Robnoxious beat her to it. Jumping up onto the cart, he climbed over the back of the seat and into the rear portion of the cart before turning around and sitting down so that his head was sticking out over the top of the cart seat. Tongue lolling out of his mouth as his nose twitched with the examination of the breeze, he gave Siera a look that seemed to say, *What, you expected me to walk?”

Shaking her head and looking down to hide the grin that came to it, Siera waited until he was settled to take the seat and write, “
Sorry. He tends to do things like that.
” on the paper, showing it to Thorek before taking it down again and writing the answer to the question he had actually asked.

I did*’t tame him, not exactly. I brought him into existence a while ago, at the request of...someone. He’s the result of my attempt to create a puppy while having my energy diluted by that of demons. The form is the only part of him that is actually a hellhound. His mind is as intelligent as you or I, although I think there’s still some of it that wants to be a normal puppy.

As though responding to what she was writing, Robnoxious chose that moment to give her a massive lick up the side of her face, leaving dog saliva all over her cheek and ear. It was surprising, surprising enough that it made her jump, what she was writing trailing off into a small scribble.

Her train of thought lost, Siera looked at the very happy-looking hellpup and sighed before simply handing what she had written to Thorek to read. There had been more she was planning on saying, but whatever it had been had been lost in the kiss of the dog.

Prophecies? Then why should I not be involved?

My dear Soahc, there is quite a difference between having a weak stomach and disliking the existence of filth.
” she replied, her tone quite haughty as she purposefully avoided looking at the creature that had insulted her. “
I don’t see why you*** bothering, myself, but I suppose every plan must have the expendable ones, repulsive though they may be.

In truth, she cared very little about this demon at this point. It was here, she wasn’t going to stop that, and it did*’t seem to care about anything but its own designs. That was fine, for it meant that, as soon as it decided that what it wanted to do was more important than Soahc’s plans, it would either leave or get itself killed by the army here. Either way worked fine for her.

What Ethyl was saying was more interesting, despite Kira’s lack of fondness for prophecies. Most of the time, they were just vague things that got people to act stupidly and get themselves killed while searching for a future that was by no means guaranteed. Everyone interpreted what was said however they wanted, and if they could spin it into a way that it favored them then they would. She held little stock in such things, preferring to forge her own fate without having to rely on some riddled words from a person who was most likely insane.

No, the reason she was interested in what was being said was much less grandiose that actually caring about the outcome of whatever the prophecy was. She might not care about it, but it was clear that Ethyl did, and since Kira did not like Ethyl at all...well, it would make for some fun to mess with her plans. The Hag was quite clearly invested in this, and although she seemed to think of herself as the one that would bear the child for Soahc, Kira did not see why anyone, Soahc included, would go so far as to bed a creature so hideous.

There were plenty of better candidates, if all that was being looked for was a child.

It wasn’t like a child with the powers of a god’s son would be insignificant, after all.

Is there anything that dictates who the mother of the son must be?
” Kira asked, her tone curious and questioning even though she was not either. It was simply a startup, a question that everyone already knew the answer to, precluding the real reason she was even speaking.

Because if not,
* she continued, gaze turning to Soahc as a rather large smile graced her features, “
I can guarantee that I will be a much better candidate than anyone else you’ve got.
