The Musician

When Annie asked, seemingly out of nowhere, if Siera was ok, the musician raised her eyebrows curiously but nodded her head. Had it been a demi-god’s instinct to ask that, or was she that bad at hiding her underlying concern for the overall situation? It wasn’t like she was spending an extra amount of effort to try and keep the fact that she was concerned about the world’s state a secret, but at the same time she had thought it was a sentiment that she shared with the rest of the group.

Upon entering the establishment, she had to pause for a moment in order to think. Any hope that she might have held about actually being able to ask people about anything was squashed when she saw the interior of the tavern. It wasn’t that there was anything particularly frightening going on in here, but rather that her natural shyness in starting a conversation - which had been amplified greatly by the removal of her voice - kicked in almost immediately upon actually seeing the people. It did*’t feel right to walk up to someone and hand them a piece of paper as a greeting. Most people would take that as irritating, and the situation would just become more awkward when they realized the one standing there could not speak.

Instead, she went with her backup plan, which was the same backup plan as every other situation: music. Even with her voice intact, music was her way of speaking clearly, and it was the only way she was going to even help in getting any information. Although wary about using magic at all, she figured that something basic and indirect wouldn’t be a problem. She did*’* want to read thoughts or force people to tell her the truth, but there were ways of getting people to talk without such drastic measures.

Taking a seat over near one of the walls, in the room that was closest to where they had entered the establishment, Siera took the flute out of the holder and raised it to her lips.

Although she was a bit nervous about starting to play without asking the owner, she was confident enough in her own ability that she knew it was unlikely she would ever be thrown out of somewhere because of it. The only time it would matter would be if the establishment prohibited or hated music, and she had yet to run into one of those.

The first note she played was quiet, trailing on for several moments before she transitioned into the next. The music she played did not seem to be an established piece, but rather just a random collection of notes that she somehow crafted together into a melody that sounded as she wished. It was not slow, but neither was it fast, not upbeat or a dirge but rather just something that felt...relaxed. It flowed through the air lazily, never getting loud enough to overpower but still managing to pervade the entire establishment.

Woven in with the notes was the passive magic that she was trying to spread around, an effect that went with the general feeling of the music. Although there was no specific thing she wanted, what she was trying was to make it so people were more willing to talk about things, something that she hoped would lead to getting information. She was listening, but barely, her senses taken up by the creation of the music, and so it would be up to Annie to take whatever actions she felt were necessary to find out what they needed to know.

The look she gave the girl signified this as best she could do with a look, as air-text was too readily available to be seen by others and telepathy wasn’t an option. What Annie did was up to her, since she could either be more active by trying to talk to people or just be passive and listen, hoping that they would say something relevant.

Annie had a weird feeling that something was troubling Siera so that's why she asked. She gave her a nod so, she wasn't sure was that she was ok or not. They walked in an old, white-wooded and high-beamed establishment which called Pride of Tyrrus. She saw the pub was three rooms, each one connected to the other by open alcoves and each room bordering the bar which sat at the centre of the establishment. That made her feel a little uncomfortable for going in but she knows what she has to do and she will do it and happy that Siera was with her and understands her as she gave her the look and understands why she was playing her flute. Annie walked to the bar to talk to the only barwomen who was free. She sat on a seat at the bar and asked in a calm voice," hello, can I have a two beers please? I been on the road for a while and what been going on lately?"

Judy walked with zed ignoring the advertisement as you pass the stalls in the marketplace and didn't care that she was stared at because she has a sword on her waist. She heard him talking about having a hat from one the stalls. She responded with a laugh,"I think a hat would look good on you no matter what color it was." She looked at the bread stall and thinking what else they needed. That's when she heard the bell of the town and hear Zed comment on Soahc being busy. She said in a whisper,"yea, we can stop him. What else do we need?" She was keeping a secret from the group about that. She was secretly telling Soahc their location and plans.

The Docks (Into The Fire)

Conleth followed cautiously. He wasn't so much worried about stirring suspicion from the other people around the town so much as the other people in this travelling party, specifically their leader. So far the day had been chaotic to say the least and he'd been on edge walking all the way to the town. Now he was starting to relax a little, but that only made matters worse; the full shock from the fight and what had happened was sinking in, which usually resulted in him losing his breakfast. Luckily, he didn't feel ill or sick at present.

At this point he was asked abut his previous mission.

"Er...well, I was supposed to be investigating a forest where some menace was lurking, or something. Someone or something cast some kind of spell, and I ended up in a completely different part of the world." He didn't see any need to include all the details of what happened.

Suddenly he darted over to some bushes, keeled over, gagging, then walked back looking visibly less tense.

"Er...sorry, that usually happens immediately after a battle ends."

The Hellpup

The old man entering the establishment caused Robnoxious to lift his head up, yawning even though he had only been sleeping for the amazingly short time of one minute. His spot by the fire had been close enough that he was almost in it, but the heat did*’t seem to bother him at all and the flames did*’t get close enough to actually catch him on fire. It seemed as though he had been paying absolutely no attention to anything since Siera had left, and had displayed no disgruntled feelings at being left behind.

Placing his chin back down on his paws, the hellpup’s eyes followed the new man, but he made no motion towards or away from him. It was like he was gauging the individual, but what the criteria or expectations he had for it were not clear. The look in his eyes was, at this point, curiosity, for he did*’t know what exactly to make of this new arrival.

When the wizard locked the door again and told the innkeeper to go upstairs, the hellpup got up, making his way towards the man slowly but with purpose. That purpose was, if the wizard allowed him, to sniff him and see what the scent said. The way he walked indicated that what had been said had made the hellpup a bit more wary, but it was not enough yet to make him concerned.

The Pyromistress

Stealthy infiltration was certainly not the specialty of someone who preferred to walk into towns with their wanted poster hanging up and act as though they belonged there, and getting over guarded walls even less so. Her response to guarded walls was to flashily soar over them, putting everyone on alert and letting everyone know she was there. Such an approach wasn’t an option here, not if she was planning on doing what Soahc wanted. Even if this place had some kind of protection that wasn’t something they wanted to deal with, she was sure they could win a fight, but she had to continually tell herself that they were not here to fight.

Sighing, the pyromistress turned around and walked away from the walls, going down the hill a fair distance before stopping and turning to face it once again. If she wanted to get inside undetected, she would have to use some kind of innovation. Maybe she could have untied the rope at the top of the tower using fire, but she refused to climb up a rope in such a manner. Losing that much dignity wasn’t worth it, not by any stretch of the imagination. That left her with only options that she could conjure up, and most of them were a bit too flashy because they involved fire. On a dark night, fire was far too visible to consider it a stealth option.

That was why her normal means of flying over the wall would not work. A bird made of fire would light up the sky, and it would be very clear to everyone on the wall that such a creature was not natural. Perhaps if she went far enough back and flew high enough in the sky she could drop in somehow, but that would take too much time and she refused to be late. Any means of getting inside the walls without walking over them required her to have vision of the interior, and to do that she would have to get up in the air somehow.

Wondering why she was even bothering with this, Kira jumped, at the same time conjuring a bursting of hot air below herself that pushed her skyward. Only the fact that she was fully anticipating it and was also the creator kept her in control, and she continued to throw herself upward, bouncing skyward a dozen feet or so at a time. It was irritating to do so, but she had enough control with her abilities that it was not as much work as it would be for the majority of others.

Although it was impossible for it to not make noise, she endeavored to make it as silent as possible and to have the sound head away from the walls if she could. Added to the fact that she had walked a fair distance away from the walls, her hope was that they would not be able to tell that anything unusual was going on. The darkness of night and distance from the walls was her visual cover from the patrols, the dark travelling cloak masking her form in the darkness better than the bright red of her dress would have.

Once she was at enough of a height that she could see past the walls, Kira searched for any fires that she could see in the village, preferably something that was not surrounded by people or in someone’s home. If there was none that she could see, the pyromistress would attempt to conjure a small one in a dark area between houses, aiming for somewhere that was a reasonable distance away from the tower and wall that she had been standing by. If someone was going to notice and stop her from getting there, she preferred to not have it be immediately traced to her position.

With the fire in place, her attempt to infiltrate the town took place. Behind her back so as to be as invisible as possible from the guards patrolling the wall, she formed a flame around her hand, and attempted to disappear into it and reappear out of the one that she had either found or formed. Avoiding the wall entirely was, in her mind, a preferable option.

The Huntress

Kat’s return to the camp was mostly uneventful, although at one point she heard the sound of something falling behind her and smelled the scent of blood again. That made her pause for a moment, but the sound receded after a moment although the scent remained. Her instinct told her that something had been following, but when nothing further happened she decided to continue on.

The trip back was somewhat long, but she did*’t care. The time spent out here was better than the time spent in the camp. Even though she followed the same religion as everyone there, Kat felt out of place among the soldiers. Maybe it was because all of the others that could fight wore full armor and shields while her armor consisted of a leather plate and chaps over her clothing, or maybe it was because they were trained soldiers while she was a hunter. They also held somewhat more strict religious beliefs than she did, although the core tenets were still the same. It might have been a compendium of all of the problems that she felt like they saw her as more of a mercenary than a holy soldier. Her inclusion in this expedition hadn’t been because she was loyally serving the Empire or the Church for years, but rather because she was better at what she could do than anyone else they had readily available.

Still, she did*’t really care, because her biggest opponent in acceptance was herself. Neither side of her wanted to agree that the other belonged, and that was why she was out here in the first place. If she could do some work to help the Church that she had followed as a child, then maybe it would grant her the ability to see clearly into where she should be. If not, maybe she could find something else that would give her a clue. The sea hasn’t given the answer, so now she did*’t have a choice but to take to the land. Thanks to the side that emulated a more primal creature, the land was not as unfamiliar as it would have been otherwise, but that was little comfort when it was that side that had prompted the journey in the first place.

Eventually, she reached the cliff that overlooked the encampment, and a quick glance told her that something was happening. It wasn’t anything violent or serious, as nobody was actively rushing around, but there were more people in the camp than she remembered there being and they were all clustered by the Decan’s tent.

Adventurers, perhaps? Had she not been distracted by the demon, she was sure that she would have spotted any group approaching from her direction, and it was even more unlikely that a group of adventurers would be approaching here from the north.

Descending the cliff and walking into the encampment itself, Kat declined to speak with any of the soldiers about what was going on. It looked tense, though; one even had their sword out and on their lap. While it was not unusual for soldiers to be ready for combat, they all looked wary, and that was unusual. It was typical for one or two of them to be, but not everyone at once. If it was news that the adventurers had brought, then it wasn’t good news.

"If you can take orders then you may join our ranks, or else we can aid you in hunting down this demon. But do not think to meddle in affairs that are not your own."

The Decan’s words, audible throughout the camp, answered the question. The demon that she was coming to warn them of had already been seen by these adventurers, and the soldiers were as nervous about such a being as she was. If this new group had come to warn them about the demon, then she assumed they either were not able to defeat it on their own or had only gotten a brief glimpse. There were other options too, but most of them were either unbelievable or something a bit darker than Kat wanted to think about.

It seemed the Decan was still busy with the group, and so Kat took a seat on the ground a few tents away, setting the spear across her crossed legs and taking a moment to survey the group. For a group of people adventuring up this way during the middle of a war, they looked a bit...ragged. Only two of them were actually armored, and one looked like the type of person she would expect to find stealing her money in a back alley. The others looked to be a mix of the types of people one would find in a tavern, and it made her wonder how these groups of adventurers assembled themselves.

In her musing, something tugged at a memory, one back when her whole mess had first started. It took a moment to realize what had triggered it, and when she did Kat had to take another look to make sure. Brushing a piece of her dark red hair out of her eyes, she stared for a moment and came to the same conclusion: the blue armor was definitely being worn by someone she remembered. It was one of the people that had been on the Pelagic II, someone that Kat had met on the same night that she had undergone the mental transformation. That was a strange thought, actually, that someone from her past on that vessel only knew her by the mental state that she had now - the huntress with the feral glint in the back of her eyes.

Eyes still on the group and the Decan, she waited. There was nothing to rush for, and she wanted to see what they were going to say anyways.
