Rovaan gave a sinister grin when the old man gave a double take after he had attempted to speak to the hellpup. Now it was the old man caught off guard. But just as it seemed that Rovaan was gaining some sort of upper hand, Etheldredda and Conleth burst through the door. Rovaan's grin faded fast to a frown as his small attempt at gaining control of the conversation and having a but of fun was thwarted.

''Speak of the devil.'' said Rovaan with a shrug and sigh when Etheldredda walked in the shattered remains of the door.

With his fun ruined, and attention now turned on Etheldredda, Rovaan stood from his chair and stretched. Since the others had yet to return from their respected assignments and the other busy talking among themselves, Rovaan decided to excuse himself.

''Well while the rest of you argue over who knows what....'' Rovaan began as he shed his human form in favor of that of a gigantic wolf. ''I am going to get some rest. Try not to keep me up. Just ignore me until it is time to leave, then wake me up.''

With that Rovaan walked to the rug near the fire place and curled. The only way someone could tell that the wolf laying next to the fireplace was formerly human was the remnants of armor between the fur.

Bowels of the Earth

Spirry had descended down the second cave; it led to a giant set of ancient doors, split asunder, with a seal that had been recently destroyed. Afterwards, he went down a staircase, passed twin-headed statues, and then felt powerful heat from behind the stone walls. Had he really gotten down so much that he was within the presence of magma chambers?

What a surprise it must have been, to emerge into a mighty canyon, in it a gargantuan orb which was what produced so much light, guarded by six immense reptilian monsters many times larger than the ones above. These big guys had immense horns and a proportionately humongous skull. Spirry would not be able to fight them all on his own and win. For now, he just stood at the opening to this canyon, the orb's light even illuminating the insides of his empty eye sockets.

*What is this? Yggd*asil?” Spirry asked aloud to himself, but was actually thinking about how the heck those beasts got down here; when he spoke, a few of the monsters lifted their heads.

The orb had an ethereal quality, one that seemed to be calling for help, wanting to be freed, to escape its torment, whatever it was. The Newborn could sense that desire for freedom in some way, and considering the orb's vast size, about a hundred houses, it looked like it was full of enough magic to rival anything any faction could muster. (( referring to the Hagspawn's quest and Soahc for example ))

Perhaps he could communicate with that orb; considering it's emotional appeal through magic, the Newborn speculated that there may be someone trapped inside.

“Did you summon me? Let me guess, you want me to take your place, for us to exchange places, so that you become free from that magical prison. I think you are that boy the soldier mentioned, and you ended up entombed in magic you could never control. Well, whatever. I still have to touch that giant ball, to feel it, to breathe it, to be its essence.” Spirry spoke, but he also attempted to send those words telepathically to the orb, if it could work.

There did not seem to be a reply; perhaps his thoughts would take some time to pierce that orb and speak to its inside, whatever it was, or maybe Spirry was completely unsuccessful. Or maybe it did respond, but Spirry didn't notice? He did have a habit of not being able to understand communication very well at times.

With his blood pooling below him and dripping down his wings and frame, the six elephant-sized reptilian monsters surely would smell him by now. Well, he could just fly over the monsters, and as the six giant beasts began charging him, their footfall loud and powerful, he took flight, and flew over them.

One of the giant monsters jumped up and snapped its magnificently gigantic jaws at the tasty-looking red meal. But it could not jump very high, similarly to how an elephant cannot jump very high, and was a bit too low to bite the Newborn, only feeling blood leaking down upon its lips, and feeling its teeth snap into air.

The monster licked its lips, and the six of them watched Spirry just fly overhead like a bunch of giant idiots. But something odd happened; Spirry's flight slowed, and he appeared to struggle. The magical orb, or something, harmed him. Newborn did not appear physically injured; the magical orb wasn't doing anything, but something was doing something to him.

“Vatarr? You are reborn, and you found my mind despite me being summoned in another realm? I didn't see that coming. To think you, me, and the other demon kings... to think we were all a trinity, all of us as one, so long ago.” Spirry mumbled to himself, reflecting about his past, from another time and place; “Vatarr” was Spirry when he was part of a trinity, so long ago, but he did not remember the names of those other demon kings.

Regardless, this magical orb probably did not intend to do anything harmful to Spirry, but the souls of other demon lords, perhaps in some way pulled by the orb's effects of wanting to be free, affected them as well, and now they also wanted to be free.

It appeared as if something giant in the air grabbed Spirry and pulled him backwards, and with such force many of his bones snapped, and his blood for a moment splashed forwards midair. Spirry fell, and the six giant reptilian monsters eagerly ran towards the falling meat. How ironic, that a demon would suffer from multiple simultaneous demonic possessions.

But the Newborn would not give-up easily, and despite being broken, the sharp, hot pain did not outmatch the constant affect of being peeled open, but he felt better, and would have smiled if he had a face. He landed on his back with a loud audible splat, wings and blood spreading out. At least his rapid regeneration kicked in, and his wounds healed, but with this much damage, he'd not be able to fly or fight very well; he had to stand his ground and fight.

The six monsters ran in a triangular cluster, sometimes bumping into each other to be the first to eat such easy prey. The first monster approached, head low to the ground, ready to gobble up the Newborn.

Spirry unexpectedly regurgitated blood immensely, throwing-up a few dozen belly-fulls of the red liquid like a fountain, forming a vast puddle of blood. When the closest monster trudged its way towards Spirry, and very eager to eat him, the monster basically slipped on the pool of blood, and lost balance, sliding a bit before coming to a stop with hind legs spread apart acutely. The next monster slipped and fell over despite stepping on less blood than the first; the four others ran around the first two.

Spirry spat blood out while moving his head to the side, ejecting a torrent of it as a spitting cobra would eject its venom, and the blood squirted into an incoming monster's eyes, and it instinctively closed them, blinded for a moment. The three remaining monsters thumped their way towards Spirry, the one that slipped over getting up, and the first one that slipped regaining it's balance. Spirry quickly stuffed his mouth with little rocks and dirt for some reason, swallowing it all.

The nearest monster opened its jaws, within a second for snapping them over Spirry, who suddenly grabbed a big rock and hurled it into the monster's mouth, hitting a canine tooth and breaking it. The sudden sharp pain forced the monster to hesitate and sway its head to the side; the two others nearby charged the Newborn.

The closest one took a big bite at Spirry; the demon jumped forth and spun around midair, ending up dodging the giant jaws and suddenly beneath the monster's throat, upon which he clung his claws and teeth into. Surprisingly, the monster's blood began gushing out within a few seconds; Spirry had torn through the scales, flesh and jugular vein with his teeth and claws. Now, Spirry was being washed by his own blood as well as the monster's.

The other monster looked around for Spirry, only hearing the one he attacked gurgling. Spirry was firmly and latched onto the beast's throat, and was now gnawing on the bones. The five monsters regained themselves by that time and gathered around, looking for Spirry, a few of them examining their wounded buddy once in a while, who thrashed and kicked around, but had no means to free itself of the thing ripping his throat open.

One of the monsters tried to nip at Spirry, but the monster he was latched onto kept moving around. Jugular vein torn open and gushing blood, Spirry let go; instantly, the five monsters approached him. Newborn regurgitated again while spinning around to the side; his ejected contents some how caught fire in the air, erupting into a sticky flaming paste, which splat on two monster's faces, entering their eyes, nostrils and mouths; they inhaled it and danced about in pain and panic, their horns knocking against each other once.

Spirry's mouth, nostrils and eye sockets now also fumed heavily. The strong scent of sizzling flesh, burning blood and fuming smoke leaving the demon's interior unnerved the monsters, who for a moment thought that fire would suddenly appear. Strange flammable gases brewed inside Newborn's belly, which could ignite by air somehow.

One of the monster's lunged, lowering its gaze and intending to gore Spirry with its horns, which it did, one horn impaling Spirry who simply walked into it aggressively and unsuccessfully. The beast thrust its head upwards; Spirry pulled himself out of the horn as another monster jumped atop the one that gored him as to bite him.

Spirry managed to roll off the monster, but the attacking monster managed to bite off his left arm at the elbow and some of his left wing; Spirry had ripped himself free, the monster chewing on what it had got its teeth onto. Another monster then bit the one who got some of Spirry, and the two growled and fought each other for a bit.

Spirry managed to hover a dozen feet up, wings vibrating and spattering blood everywhere, his hovering zigzagging, but still he remained in the air. Smoke fuming out his mouth, eye sockets and nostrils, Spirry blasted fire mixed with pasty stomach stuff, somewhat like napalm, ejecting a torrent of it for several second onto the five monsters' faces, frightening the big animals and causing them to turn and flee to get away from the heat.

Nevertheless, two regained themselves and charged Spirry, their horns and faces smoking. Spirry billowed smog at them, and they coughed upon snorting it. Newborn quickly ran around them, exhaling smog as he went. Another monster charged him, and he regurgitated a belly full of dirt that he had swallowed, now resembling black heated sand. The monster inhaled fire-hot sand and ran off huffing and puffing in pain.

Spirry began shaking and fell over, the openings of his head fuming black smoke, his leaking blood sizzling, and his flesh hardening. The damn demon was cooking himself inside-out, producing enough smoke to suffocate the monsters. Now was his chance; he quickly faced the giant magic orb and ran to it, flapping his wings to help him move.

The orb emanated with an overwhelming amount of energy, so much so, that Spirry's body began flaking off, flesh coming off as burnt bits. To his great irritation, he felt less pain, nerves destroyed. But he approached the orb, which was so bright he would have been blinded if he had eyes. The great brightness and smog would surely slow down the monsters if they chased after Spirry, whose body seemed to have a weakness to magic; much blood and bits of flesh simply waved off the Newborn. He figured he'd end up rather skeletal by the time he reached the damn ball!

The Hellpup

Interestingly enough, the look that Robnoxious gave to Rovaan was not one of understanding. Not complete understanding, anyways, for the hellpup recognized the language as something that it should know but could not understand it. While his form was of the demonic realms, his mind was not. Demonic energy had forged the soul of a puppy - and perhaps something else, for the intelligence he had displayed over the course of his life spoke of something more than simply that - into the body of a hellhound, mixing the two and creating something more.

While he could not understand what was being said, the hellpup did something interesting in response: he tried to imitate the noises he was hearing. The language was not one that sounded at all like the common tongue, and was close enough to the sounds the hellpup could make that he felt as though he could either imitate or learn it. Either way, he failed, but that was not surprising in the least. The noises he was able to make were not coherent words in the language, sounding more like different sounding growls than anything else.

Anything else that he might have tried to do was cut off when Etheldredda and Conleth burst through the door, the initial growl that had been forming in his throat ceasing when he saw that it was people he had been walking with. The growl came back almost immediately, however, when Rovaan shifted forms, the wolf form looking to be something that he did not like to see. It ceased after a few moments, the same scent telling him that he did*’t need to act threatening, but he looked distinctly unsettled by what was now going on in the room.

Soaring Flames

It appeared that the wide berth that she gave the towers paid off, for nothing interrupted Kira’s unconventional travelling method. Although she was too far away to hear much, the sounds of an explosion did reach her senses, as did the momentary burst of vision-distortion that such a device had to make when it went off. She could not see the one who had set it off, but there was no doubt that it had been one of their group. None of the guards would have such a device.

Pausing her motion for a moment above the town, the pyromistress examined the area that she now had access to. Under normal circumstances, she would have loved to examine the keep, but given what was going on now it was very unlikely there would be time for that. The triggering of the wards indicated that they would at least know someone was here, and that would mean it was only a matter of time before they got to searching the town. Nunneries were fun to raid as well, their reactions to everything she did having an element of horror to them that she loved to observe, but as it was secondary to the keep there was next to no chance she would end up there.

The modern building stood out, as Soahc had made mention of the fact that their objective was a place that was brand new. It was the only building that fit the description, really, everything else that she could see looking as though it had been there for many years. There weren’t any markings to distinguish to her what the building signified, and only knowing that it was a more recent addition did not help her come to a conclusion. New religions liked to spring up from nowhere and then vanish again, and since she did not bother to even keep up with the teachings of the old ones she certainly could not recognize a religion by nothing more than the shape and color of the building.

It would be easy enough to make her way to the building, but that hadn’t been the plan. Soahc had wanted them to meet up in the center of town, and since the alarms had already been tripped she would hope that everyone else was moving along as quickly as possible. Of course, it was possible they might have all tripped the alarm, but since she was pretty sure Soahc wouldn’t be stopped by whatever he came across the plan to meet in the center was still ongoing.

The warriors and mages in the streets concerned her little in terms of danger to herself, but being spotted wasn’t something she wanted after successfully crossing the wall undetected. None of them looked as though they were expecting someone to drop in, and she hoped that her descent would be as unnoticed as her ascent. If not, she knew she could deal with a single, or perhaps two, soldier without them being able to alert anyone else verbally, but fire tended to make the presence of one known quite easily during a dark night.

Picking a spot that was close to the center of the town and clear as far as she could see from the sky, Kira let herself begin falling. She used only a fraction of the bursts that she had used while ascending, trying to make her descent as quick and quiet as possible. The ones used were used to control her speed and direction, letting her land without injuring herself and in the place that she had designated.

From there, her plan was to move to the center of town, remaining unseen if she could.

Encampment of the Empire

Although she would have liked to see what was likely a panicked reaction at the realization that there was indeed a demon on the loose, Kat simply did*’t have time to wait for it.
