The Hive

Whilst Soahc the Deceiver and his lieutenants went forth to battle whatever forces their diabolical demigod had chosen, mercenary captain Raspur Cain was left trying to make sure their encampment was fortified, with little success. The ghost's undead minions were completely unresponsive to any order not given by their master, though Raspur was certain the corpses were leering at his failed attempts with joy. Cold Ethyl would not allow her hagspawn to assist in defending anything other than their hag parents, so that was another workforce barred from use. The cultists weren't fit for physical labour- Raspur assumed they'd all turned to demon worshipping after being turned down at the prom- so it was left to the mercenaries, barbarians, murderers and psychopaths to set a watch, scouting parties and secure the perimeter. A most unruly bunch indeed.

Raspur was currently stood over Black Axe, the one eyed, earless mercenary with a thick beard and foul repute. Right now a crow flew overhead with three eyes, two its own and one which once belonged to the mercenary. Elsewhere, two rats, each with a human ear fused to their backs, were scuttling around. Raspur had no idea what sort of dark magic was needed to achieve this, nor did he want to ask. Raspur Cain was unscrupulous, merciless, completely devoid of humour or justice, yet even he was disturbed by his experimental brethren.

"Swarm coming," the man grunted, seeing out of an eye not attached to his body, as the bird magically bound to his will swooped down overheard.
"O' what?" Asked Raspur, hand already pawing the flintlock pistol at his side.
"Bugs. Magic." Black Axe appeared to be struggling against the crow's inherent desire to eat whatever was approaching. But Raspur had heard the word 'magic,' and therefore knew the best person to call for this situation.

"Hag!"

Of hags there were four- Cold Ethyl their leader, who had lead their defection from the Great Mother, and the three sisters she had convinced to accompany her. Though it was only Cold Ethyl who responded to the call, the other three deep in concentration, muttering in a tongue not known to man, summoning up dark clouds and stormy weather to cover up the approach of Soahc and his legion, to drive men indoors so that they would be unable to spot the coming terror.

"What is it, mutt?" Spat Cold Ethyl, clawing over towards the mercenary, fury in her every move. "I don't take orders from human filth."

"Something's coming," Raspur responded. He was usually a foul-mouthed man, but the rage inside Ethyl was unparalleled in humans, and the two had quickly discovered that when they became locked in a shouting match, there was no victor.

"It knows we're here," muttered out Black Axe, almost as an afterthought, in response to what he was seeing with his missing eye. Cold Ethyl scowled thoughtfully down at the murderer, then turned to the skies to find the bird that was his thrall. Seeing what direction she needed to go in, Cold Ethyl marched off. She had no doubt whatever this 'something' was, was due to Soahc alerting every authority on the planet to their presence from slaughtering three villages in a row, and was determined to bring proof of his folly to the demigod in order to talk some sense into him, (she was hoping for a paladin or prince, but would settle for a warrior priest.)

Encampment of the Empire

"If you wish to investigate this matter further yourselves, I cannot stop you," Decan Martha said plainly to Henry. "Though ogres do not take well to trickery of any kind, and asking too many questions is something they'll take negatively," she gestured towards Mugwo, who was currently breaking boulders open with his weapon in the same way a man might smash open an egg.

"At dawn we march east, if Tyrrus grants us good weather. If news of skirmishes nearby are true, then we will most likely be hunting down the Ogrin scourge ourselves. Though I'll need a full report from my scout first," the decan looked up and spotted Kat a little ways off in the camp, engaged in conversation with Enrael, and rolled her eyes.

"Auxiliary, report." Enrael had tried many times to advance himself upon the decan on the journey, to no avail. Martha was unsurprised to find out that he had now switched targets, but there would be time for merry-making later. Right now, they were servants of the Empire, extensions of Tyrrus's holy will, and needed to save these people.

Karstone Greatjohn, an eyebrow arched, turned to face the group. Ignoring Sir Charles's religious fervour and Alania Clarke's idealistic chirpings, he focused instead on Henry and Alicia, both of whom seemed to be equally as miffed by all of this prattling on as he was.

"Ah'm no' fig*'in' in nobodies war," Karstone told them all. "Tha's no' why Ah'm 'ere. Ah'll go west wi' Mugwo, see if the ogre city 'as any better answers."

"You're leaving ?" Alania said with slight disgust- an emotion one would not associate with someone so positive. "Didn't you hear the decan? The ogres of Ogrin are the aggressors and they're moving in closer. They need our help."

"An' on whose word does our decan 'ave this information, eh? The ogres o' Og. Think they'd jus' be tellin' the truth ou' of the kindness of their 'earts?"

"Is it really that unbelievable to you that people might want do to good in the world?"

"Yes."

Alania clearly did not appreciate that answer, for she turned her back on the old adventurer and instead faced the rest of their party, apparently waiting patiently for them to agree with her and join the decan's mission.

Bowels of the Earth

With the lush blue grass now soaking up more blood and gore than had ever been seen in this chamber in the past one hundred thousand years, the Newborn was now advancing towards the second cave. This one did not even deign to give the hint of a steady incline, but instead lead straight into a vertical drop. Brambles around the perfectly-carved, circular well seemed to reach out ethereally as though to claw at any who would try to make the ascent, the leaves sucking up the nutrients of the blood that poured from Spirry's eternally mutilated body, but the overall descent wasn't hindered completely.

The demon was now so deep into the earth that the sheer weight of the land above seemed to be bearing down on the atmosphere, or perhaps that was simply a trick of the mind. No more moss or fungi grew this deep, and the darkness was all-encompassing. Only through extrasensory perception could one make out the cavern that had been entered, seemingly innocuous except for the wall on the far side- for it was a wall, and not simply the rocky side of a cave- which was elaborately decorated in ancient carvings and featured a sealed door at its centre...

A sealed door that had been cleaved clean in two.

That this place was ancient there was no denying, but the destruction of the seal was certainly recent. Was something trying to get in, or had something succeeded in getting out?

Proceeding through the entrance lead to a grand staircase, a staircase that seemed to stretch endlessly into the abyss. To either side stood statues of a twin-headed god, looking behind Spirry towards freedom, and ahead towards damnation. Seeing into a past of safety and a future of uncertainty. If before he was in the bowels of the earth, this must certainly be heading towards the centre. The walls were radiating an unnatural heat, as though magma was bubbling just metres away from Spirry, behind each wall, ceiling and floor which surrounded the demon.

Though of course the demon lacked eyes, perhaps it would sense rather than see the literal light at the end of the tunnel. The staircase widened out into a great expanse, miles wide, a great canyon within which sat something glowing majestically, something large enough to fit a hundred houses in it, like a massive celestial egg that was nestling in the world's nest. Was this the world's spirit? Or the birthplace of a god? The energies coming off of the orb could not be ignored, it was staggering, overpowering, calling out to be freed.

But surrounding the energy pit were great hulking beasts, as large as elephants though just as reptilian as their kin further up. Trudging around on four legs, their heads of a humongous side- aided, no doubt, by the great expanse of skull which stretched above its head, from which sprouted two great horns. Half a dozen of these creatures were present, but despite the door above being broken, it was clear that they were not trying to break open whatever magical seal was on the device which they surrounded. Whatever was inside was calling out for release, for freedom, but the guardsmen were implacable, seeking only to prolong the creature's torment.

In the twilight zone there was no way of seeing the Newborn approach, but soon the enemies would pick up the sound of blood splattering onto the floor, and charge out accordingly.

Annie laughed and repiled with a smile,"no I am fine with my drink. Thank you anyway. But I have a question, you mentioned before about the time mage, Do you know who or what is the time Mage is? I never heard of him or her before. I want to learn about that. Any information you have will be appreciated." She really needs to know this. -Dances-

The Bed and Breakfast - Joric Ironfist

Joric jumped and went for his axe when the door burst open, but stopped when he realized it was Etheldredda, his hand hovering over the handle. He returned to his relaxed position, although there was still tension in the air.

The old man introduced himself as Tempora Sage, and told Ethel the same story he had told Joric and Rovaan - minus the conspiracy theories, of course.

In truth, Joric wasn't entirely sure what to think about anyone right now. What people in this group he did know he knew very little about. Zed and Siera were the only two he felt confident in trusting - Zed had helped him fight a demon and Siera stood with him against an army, even if she hadn't done a lot of fighting.

He had only briefly seen Kuro in action, Annie was careless with her powers and had almost hit him on numerous occasions, and he had never met Rovaan before today despite him apparently being present at Copperdale. Everyone else was a total stranger, or he didn't know them well enough to even list them above.

Why did adventuring have to be so complicated these days?

"He's with the Champions Guild." Joric added helpfully. Then, he turned to Conleth. "A little bird tell you he was here?" He asked in a joking tone, perhaps to lighten the tension.

Joric had noticed the sparrow in the corner of his eye, and had found it odd - birds didn't normally just land on windowsills and start watching people, not with a busy street outside. Due to the immediate arrival of Etheldredda and the man with the bird, it was fairly easy to put two and two together. But the reality was that Joric did not like being spied on.

Espionage - Brodus

When the elemental launched its blast, Brodus ran into the tower for cover. He felt strong wind against his back, threatening to knock him off his feet, but he kept his balance. He quickly went over his options.

First, he could wait in the tower for the elemental to come through the door or window, forcing it into melee range. But it could also throw some spell into the tower and knock him around for all he knew.

Second, he could try some ranged magic attacks. But the elemental might be able to dodge. And though he still had quite a bit of soul energy left, he didn't want to waste it - it was his first day on the job and this probably wasn't even the last fight of the day.

Finally, the elemental had emerged from the top of the tower. Perhaps, if he went up there, he could find some way to banish it or seal it back in. It was a longshot, and going even higher up when facing an entity that could easily send him hurtling to his doom probably wasn't a good idea.

All of this went through his head in only a few seconds. Then, the former knight sprung into action, running up the tower's stairs and going all the way to the top - if nothing tried to stop him.

-----

Encampment of the Empire - Alicia Vendal

Already a rift had formed in the group, it seemed. Charles, the devout knight, seemed obsessed with killing the demon, and Alania, the wide-eyed idealistic, seemed ready to dive head-first into a war she had no personal investment in.

Though Alicia was mainly in this for material gain, she was smart enough to realize splitting the group up was unwise. It could even lead to them fighting each other on opposite sides of the conflict.

"What happens if you're wrong?" She asked, turning to Alania, her voice a hushed whisper just loud enough for the other party members to hear. "What if the ogres of Og are the aggressors, and the ogres of Ogrin are the victims? What if both sides think the other side started it, are both receiving their equipment from the same group, and both are being manipulated? What then? We came here to find out what was going on, not to get wrapped up in some holy crusade. If you really want to do some good, then at least hear both sides before you pledge your service to complete strangers."

And that was all she had to say. The least they could to do was find out who was the right or wrong (as well as who could offer the greater reward) before they made any decisions.

The Hive

The Hive moved forward.

It cared little for its surroundings. It was aware of them, yes, but its destination is what mattered. It was going to kill something. It was going to have fun!

We’re almost there. Something is close, I can feel it. Should I...no, I** going to kill it. You...I...we don’t have to ask. I will do. I will do what I was made to.

The insects were a tempest within; a growing storm waiting to be unleashed. They hummed with anticipation, and many took flight to form a cloud of vermin around the walking corpse. A battered glove reached towards the creature’s sheath and drew a sword. Flakes of dried blood drifted to the ground, but the creature cared little. It felt its own anticipation building within, an overwhelming desire to taste death once more.

Feel your strength. Remember your joy. Remember the thrill. Find it again!

No thoughts. No questions. No confusion.

It willed itself faster. The legs began to apply more force, although this sudden surge of strength caused the creature to stumble. Catching itself with its free hand, it righted itself and tried again. This time, the arms pumped in time with each glorious step. The Swarm seemed to buzz with glee, still wild in its frenzy about the body.

This was right. It had to be. How could something that felt this good be wrong?

The image was clear in its mind. An old woman, one strangely unresponsive to the growing presence of insects as she drew closer. Who was she?

She’s dead. She’s dead the moment you find her because your sword will find her heart.

Silence.

The swarm was eager to descend upon its prey, and did not hesitate when the Hive was within reasonable range of the Hag. Sword raised to the heavens, it charged.

NOW KILL!

((Can I be on the character list pwease? :D ))
Cower, worship, or beg. All are valid choices.
