Shifting the spear to her left hand, Kat reached under the coat and drew out her second weapon from the holster that was hooked over her shoulder and hanging by her side. This weapon was a pistol, but an interesting one. It had no hammer, and while the grip was made from the traditional material of wood the rest of it was not. Instead, it seemed to be made of some sort of crystal, a somewhat bluish material that looked to be chiseled into the form of the gun barrel. The only part of the gun, apart from the grip, that was not made from this crystal was a small chamber at the back of the gun, behind the barrel and where the firing chamber would normally be. It was instead made of some kind of black material that also looked crystalline in origin, and looked to be purposefully placed in a spot where the hand holding the weapon would not come into contact with it.
Intricate runic symbols covered the entire weapon, but those on the black chamber were particularly numerous. On the majority of the weapon, the runes were green-blue, but those on the chamber were white. They were all carved in some sort of magical language that Kat did not understand, but she did know that they functioned to keep the weapon operating. That was all she needed, and why she had not tried to figure them out.
Pointing the pistol at the ogre’s skull, Kat sighed and pulled the trigger. Although there was no hammer to cause a spark, there was still a crack as though one had caused the ignition of powder, and the bullet still flew out, slamming into the ogre’s skull and causing any movement that it had been doing to cease. During the firing sequence, the runes on the small black chamber at the rear of the weapon lit up a bright orange-red, and remained that way for a few seconds afterwards before dimming down to the white color that they were normally. The rest of the runes appeared to be unresponsive, perhaps fulfilling another purpose rather than the firing of the weapon.
Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.
