The Plucky Hecatonchire

A smirk grew across Desmond's face. "I don't want you to get to scared and not join me on my quest so i will keep all the good stories for once you have shown your true strength." He said making a fist and shaking it at the man. "On my way here i ran into forest demons." Desmo proclaimed as if the creatures were no match for him. "Some were as big as this place." He looked around at the walls and ceiling. "Howling as they chased me through the forest!" Desmo then pointed his finger at Rickard. "With this finger i took them all down!" He exclaimed while pulling the finger back and blowing on it as if he smoke was trailing off of it. "A true mage never tells no secrets so... you gotta wait to see how i took them all down."

Desmo felt confident as if he had Rickard eating out of the palm of his hand. However, he didn't see the man as a follower but a companion. It has been, what feels like, ages since Desmond has had a conversation with anyone and even longer since someone has treated him in such a matter.

Desmo felt the shirt in his hand throughly before putting it on. He had nearly forgot what it was like to have clean clothes. The shirt Rickard gave him was a bit to big but that did not bother Desmond. The right sleeve came just below his stump which pleased him seeing as he wasn't to proud to lose his arm. The boy seemed eager to set out on an adventure, and even know he saw Rickard as the minion he was waiting for the OK to leave.

Trolls and Brigands and Demons...Not Good

To say that the chain of events that had just come to pass was startling would be an understatement. In a matter of moments, a troll had just sent a river at them, which had been counteracted by a massive display of raw strength from the two members of their group that were at least partially demonic, one of which made the additional move to send an incredible wave of flames at the brigand ships downriver. Everyone else followed that up by charging at each other, leaving only Annie and Kuro, the latter of which seemed to have expended his energy, as those not fighting the brigands.

To someone as attuned to life energies as Siera, and who also had the additional magical effect of being aware of everything living nearby, seeing lives vanishing so rapidly was incredibly saddening. She wasn’t stupid, and knew that they had to fight so that it was not them meeting that fate, but that did*’t mean she had to like the way the world was working. Everything had to be solved with violence; it did*’t matter if both sides could come to a peaceful conclusion. Everyone wanted to prove that they were the superior being, and the only way to do that was to fight everyone that you thought was lesser than you.

As more brigand lives continued to vanish, whether boiled in the river or cut down by her comrades, the musician’s tune began to change. No longer was it a battle hymn, instead taking the form of a quiet and sad anthem. Everyone else seemed to be killing quite effectively, and she saw no need to partake in the bloodshed right now. Everyone could ignore her music and she wouldn’t care, for the expression of her emotions would resonate across the battlefield regardless of what others wanted. Maybe they enjoyed it, but she did not.

It was a little strange, actually, since a year ago she wouldn’t have been doing this. Bandits and the like had been something she had been forced to deal with many times when she had been travelling on her own, and although she always regretted taking their lives she had never felt overly sad during the process. People hadn’t been quite the same thing to her then, more of individuals that were different from her and not a group that she could really interact with. They weren’t really people, not in the sense that she could have any kind of meaningful relationships with them, and so the loss of their lives, while unfortunate, was not nearly as important.

She knew now how flawed her reasoning was, both in the sense that her magic gave her and in with her personal emotions. The last year had shown her, among other things, that the people of this world were exactly the same as she was, only different in terms of race. They felt things the same as she did and thought in the same way, and the fact that decisions came out differently just proved that everyone were actually people like her own. The magical link took it a step farther, resonating the life of everything in the world through the energies that she gathered to weave her spells, and the sensation - heightened after the defeat of the Dread Lord and her own interaction with the melody of the world - told her, in no uncertain terms, that every bit of life was just as valuable as each other.

It made it more difficult to fight, or rather more difficult to hurt others. It was too easy to think of the peasant army that had marched on Copperdale because of misguided information and the horrible violence that the event had spawned, and wonder how many of those on the opposite side of the battlefield were people like that.

Maybe their stories weren’t the same, but that did*’t mean she could kill them easily anymore. Some part of her knew that this was right, knew that destruction was not what the magical energies she drew on had been intended to be used for, but at the same time she also knew that there would once again be a time when it would be necessary for her to act. For now, she did not have to, but eventually she would, and she just hoped that she could actually do it again.

The brigands in the trees she did not try to affect, but the man that had jumped down to aid them and then immediately jumped back into the trees was another matter. She could see all of them clearly, and sent the request for access to the man. Should he choose to accept, he would gain the same vision privileges that she and Rovaan still had, an invaluable asset in a fight in the woods.

As for the others, there wasn’t much she could do. They were all embroiled in the fight, and she did*’t need to take a step to fire at the brigands. Instead, she did minor things, such as sending a small shield to one point to block an incoming group of arrows or sending a disorienting image to the eyes of a brigand that looked as though he might be gaining an advantage. What she did would allow her allies to fight more effectively, but would not physically injure the brigands.

There was one thing that she did devote a reasonable portion of energy to, however, and that was to Annie. An azure dome, identical to the one that she had used around herself and Etheldredda, sprang into existence over the young woman. While she seemed to think that the troll was going to just speak with them, Siera was worried that she was misjudging the situation and could get hurt by letting her defenses down. Perhaps it was necessary, perhaps not, but since Annie was the only one standing in front of the troll the musician wasn’t going to let it take her out.

Oakfoot, and the Evil that dwells within

I wouldn’* want to be my family.
” Kira commented off-handedly as the entourage began the journey away from Oakfoot. “
They died in a fire, although one of the few that wasn’t of my own making.

She really did*’t care that he did*’* want them to kill each other, and she cared even less that everyone here would probably prefer to stab her in the back and then collect the massive bounty on her head. It did*’t matter right now, and by the time it did she would have everything that she cared about accomplished. Once it was done, her purpose would be fulfilled, and those remaining would be powerless to stop what it was she wanted. They could kill her, but it wouldn’t undo the majesty that she would have brought into being, and the grand act of immolation would be the final step in accomplishing her dream.

So if they needed to get along, she would get along. There was no such thing as someone she could trust, and everyone wanted something that they would gladly use another individual's life to obtain. Random murder wasn’t her favorite pastime anyways, and those that could be of use to her were, of course, better off alive. Everyone here fell into that category, and so there was no reason for her to kill them at all. Besides, some of them did*’t look half bad, and gods knew she wasn’t going to find anyone that really met her standards for a long while.

As for the comment about not liking red, she gave the god a displeased sideways look but let it slide. Even if she really cared - which she did not - there wasn’t anything she could do about it.

These divine champions sound like a minor problem.
” she commented. “
I’ve fought many that claimed to be such, but most were an extreme disappointment and the rest were barely passable. Only one ever stood out, and she was quite amusing before the fire consumed her. I doubt your father could find many of merit, but should I look forward to a fun encounter or simply disappointment?

In a way, she hoped there would be more than one powerful opponent, because fighting peasants got boring after the first several. Someone that she could actually enjoy bringing her flames against was rare. but on those occasions she felt more alive than ever. Wielding fire with skill and being forced to her limits was an exhilarating experience, and emerging victorious from such an encounter was one of the best feelings of her life.

Annie knew what she was doing was dangerous but she didn't care. She just wanted to understand what the troll ment from what it said. She wasn't going to attack the troll unless it attacks her first. She saw a weird dome was around her. At first it scared her that she was trapped in it but, in a few minutes she realized it was protection around her because she was close to the troll that could hurt her. Now she wondered who but it around her. -Dances-
