Maybe their stories weren’t the same, but that did*’t mean she could kill them easily anymore. Some part of her knew that this was right, knew that destruction was not what the magical energies she drew on had been intended to be used for, but at the same time she also knew that there would once again be a time when it would be necessary for her to act. For now, she did not have to, but eventually she would, and she just hoped that she could actually do it again.
The brigands in the trees she did not try to affect, but the man that had jumped down to aid them and then immediately jumped back into the trees was another matter. She could see all of them clearly, and sent the request for access to the man. Should he choose to accept, he would gain the same vision privileges that she and Rovaan still had, an invaluable asset in a fight in the woods.
As for the others, there wasn’t much she could do. They were all embroiled in the fight, and she did*’t need to take a step to fire at the brigands. Instead, she did minor things, such as sending a small shield to one point to block an incoming group of arrows or sending a disorienting image to the eyes of a brigand that looked as though he might be gaining an advantage. What she did would allow her allies to fight more effectively, but would not physically injure the brigands.
There was one thing that she did devote a reasonable portion of energy to, however, and that was to Annie. An azure dome, identical to the one that she had used around herself and Etheldredda, sprang into existence over the young woman. While she seemed to think that the troll was going to just speak with them, Siera was worried that she was misjudging the situation and could get hurt by letting her defenses down. Perhaps it was necessary, perhaps not, but since Annie was the only one standing in front of the troll the musician wasn’t going to let it take her out.
Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.
