The Leprechaun's Foot
This entire venture was sounding less and less inviting every second, and Siera would have questioned her motivation to go had she already not known why she was accompanying them. It was something that someone had to do, and she wouldn't be able to live with herself if she let them go without her. They might need her help at some point, and if they died because she had let a difficult situation dissuade her then she would hold herself responsible for the rest of her life. Besides, it was time that she actually did something about what was happening in the world.
She just hoped that they wouldn't get into much conflict before they reached the forest, since she was absolutely useless without magic. A glance down at her hands brought the two rings that were the swords from the library into view, but she dismissed them just as she had every time she had looked at them before. The musician knew nothing about swordplay, and trying to use one would just get her killed. Maybe one of the people in the group would be able to teach her how to use one, though...that was a possibility. She doubted it would help her fight anyone with any skill, but maybe she could find a way to keep herself alive without being forced to use her magic.
Etheldredda's declaration that they were leaving in an hour following Joric's question of why they were not caught her by surprise. Once she thought about it she wasn't sure what she had been expecting, but waking up and coming downstairs to an almost immediate departure had not been how she had expected her day to go. It was almost like her days as a traveling minstrel, when she had been able to stay at inns for a maximum of a few nights before she couldn't afford it anymore.
Those days had just been her and the flute on the road, though, and it had been a lot more dangerous at the start.
Done in by the dubious doings of destiny.
