When I am all alone
I catch myself waiting
For the allure of a future
that is never to come.

It hurts me to say
I'm not stuck in the past
Nor am I present, for
I longingly grasp
For a fictitious place
Close enough to touch
Yet too far to hold.

However real it seems
I am reminded of the lie
Each and every time
I open my eyes.

Excuse me, miss, you're a tall drink of water
Hung up on my ex, and I'm just glad you're not her
Maybe we could noodle dance pb and j otter
Have you going up and down like a teeter totter
________
It seems the only type of poetry I can write is the type that needs to be spit over a beat in a freestyle cypher. That's what I get for surrounding myself with such artists as Dumbfoundead, Wu Tang Clan, Kendrick Lamar, and George Watsky to name a few, I suppose.

It's not a possesion.
It's a feeling.
Warm, bright, euphoric.
Not the bed, not the rooms,
but the people and memories
who helped you make it through.
Dinners aren't there for the food,
for the tables, or plates you consume,
it's for the friends, the love, your new family,
when you see the smiles you can
finally understand
what is home
and how it should last.

I don't usually write free verse, but I came up with this idea that was going to be a short story until I decided it was better suited as a poem.

- Vicissitude -

Yesteryear; it seems one heartbeat ago
When I stood here, hands in pockets, smoking
A cigarette. Unshaven and unkempt;
You, by the yew tree: that purple miniskirt
And those garish shoes, laces untied—for
Even then you never tied the knot. Let
It die; yet still you complained, unhappy:
That insatiability for someone
Still lingered in you; cancerous, it drove
You to your death—all because you never
Committed yourself to me. There were tears:
I said the wrong things, but so did you.
So here I stand, kneeling by moistened grass;
Fingertips’ reach from the marble, ready
To say: I forgive you.

This is one that I was working on for the past four days.

----------------------

As We Watch

We watch as fire burns the land,
Everything turns to ash in our hand.
Our lives become bitter and cold,
The ones we love we can no longer hold.

We watch as smoke bellows toward the skies,
Everything we build crumbles before our eyes.
Our hearts ache as we venture alone,
The blood stains you see is our own.

We watch as the world continues on,
Everything we have is now gone.
Our scars each have a story of their own.
The pain sinks into our flesh and bone.

--- Snowflakes ---

I know what you're thinking
Another poem
About snowflakes.
We've all seen them
Poems about the coldness
Piled up in snowdrifts
As a lone horseman stares
Into a serene, muffled forest
While another stays inside
And looks morosely
At the downy comforter
Over his daughter's
Final resting place.
So what makes this any different?
Has every thought
Every waking wondering
Been wondered before?

Is every snowflake really the same?
