Yak To The Shadows update:

I got a good start on this third Yak Track thing. I have completed the first 5 tasks.

Task #1 was completed by listening to Moorrissey's yakstory. Fun fact: As usual, I was listening to 1st Wave on Sirius XM while playing RS, and as I began talking to the yak they played "Ask" by The Smiths. The lead singer of The Smiths is named Morrissey. Perfect timing! :P

Task #2 was to mine only 70 ores of coal or better. I did better and mined 100 coal at the Barbarian Village. The other choice was to smelt steel bars or better.

Task #3 was a pleasant surprise - FINALLY combat was an option along the F2P Yak Track! :) I happily chose this option over stringing a lot of bows! I had to kill 445 monsters, so I went into the dwarven mine and did the entire task there, killing scorpions and king scorpions.

Task #4 was between catching 95 fish or cooking 555 pieces of food. Easy choice! I went to the Karamja dock and harpooned fish. After four trips to have Stiles note the fish, I more than completed this task by catching 54 swordfish and 52 tuna.

Task #5 was completed by going to the Kharid-et dig site and excavating Venator remains until I found a Zarosian insignia (which I quickly discovered after finding one piece of Third-Age iron and one chunk of ancient gravel). I then teleported to Varrock, where I donated the insignia to Soran. At least he thanked me, which is more than can be said for any of those miners I saved from the king scorps.

Next, I am smithing 35 items of steel or better to complete Task #6. That will only take slightly longer than smelting 560 bars (steel or better), and it won't be a drain on resources I'll probably need for future tasks. Looks like I'll soon have even more rune arrowheads.

Since it's Zarosian in flavor, I expect this Yak Track to be a big hit with Kristen! :)

News: Aslon Dak has received Woody, the Woodcutting pet drop!

That's right - I finally got my first skilling pet! O_o :O :D

Interesting it should come as a result of training one of my lowest skills (level 82). I figured if ever I got a skilling pet, it would most likely be associated with Smithing, or maybe Mining. It turned out to be Woodcutting, a skill I rarely train. Who could've seen that coming? Not me!

I was in Edgeville cutting down yews for a Yak Track task, when suddenly fireworks went off. I knew it couldn't have been a Daily Woodcutting Challenge, since I had already redeemed one of those two inventories of yew logs earlier. I then saw the broadcast message in the chat window and Woody in my backpack.

I received Woody at 2,542,485 Woodcutting XP, after having gained 42,185 XP in the skill early this morning.

I will update my list of pets on page 11 once I've posted this.

Yak To The Shadows update:

I haven't had much time to play the past two days, but I did manage to complete Task #6 after smithing 36 sets of rune arrowheads in Falador, although I only needed to make 35 items.

Early this morning, I finished cutting 175 yew logs in Edgeville to complete Task #7. The other option was Firemaking. While working on the third inventory of yews, I received Woody, the Woodcutting pet drop - my first skilling pet! :)

Task #8 is a choice between crafting or siphoning 305 body runes, or burying 330 bones. I'm going with Runecrafting here. However, since the number of body runes needed for this task is so small, I'm thinking of not bothering to go to the Runespan. I may just make some runs to the body altar, especially since (unlike last time) siphoning fire runes doesn't appear to count towards these tasks.

Yak To The Shadows update:

Yesterday I completed Task #8 by making five runs to the body altar. I needed to craft 305 body runes. I ended up crafting 333 of them. All those 3s remind me of someone. ;)

This afternoon I completed Task #9 by cooking 590 pieces of food (mostly tuna, except for three pieces of beef I had picked up while collecting cowhides in Burthorpe for crafting). The other option would've been to string 520 bows.

For Task #10, I must either complete 6 Dungeoneering floors, or bury 660 bones. I am actually leaning towards Dungeoneering. Yeah, I know. I'm surprised too! O_o :O

Yak To The Shadows update:

I finished Task #10 - a Dungeoneering task - a short time ago. I chose to complete 6 frozen floors on complexity 1, so I wouldn't be slowed down by skilling or puzzles. However, I did have to actually complete 7 floors, because Floor 6 did not get counted towards completing the task, all because I chose to end what I hoped was the final dungeon by climbing up the ladder in the starting room after killing the boss, rather than climbing down to the next level in the boss room, and then ending that floor by climbing the ladder in the starting room. Bah!

Here's a list of the floors I did and the bosses I faced:

Floors 1-4: Icy Bones (Easy fights. He barely wounded me. Once I took no damage at all!)
Floor 5: Luminescent Icefiend (I hate this guy and his stupid icicles! Bloody fight, but I won.)
Floor 6: Gluttonous Behemoth (Quick easy fight. I made sure to stand in front of its food)
Floor 11: Plane-freezer Lakhrahnaz (Annoying, but fairly brief battle. I took slight damage.)

7/6 floors completed, and I was reminded yet again of the reasons why I dislike Dungeoneering so much! At least it saved me from buying and burying a bunch of bones.

For Task #11, I could craft 400 pieces of armor out of snakeskin or green dragonhide leather. I'm not sure why blue dragonhide leather wasn't included as an option. Since this sounds tedious and expensive, I'm all too happy to go with the other task choice: to mine 155 ores (coal or better). I'm planning to stock up on coal and mithril, in case I find myself having to do some mid-level smelting for a future task.

Yak To The Shadows update:

This afternoon I more than completed Task #11 by mining 100 mithril ores at Varrock's southwest mine, then mining 100 coal at Barbarian Village. I needed only 155 ores.

Task #12 offered me a choice between burning 445 logs or smithing 50 items. Of course I chose Smithing. I'm making more rune arrowheads. So far, I've made 10/50 sets.
