Increasing the performance of the Java client - Mac
Note: This is for the Java RuneScape 3/ OldSchool client only!
If you are using the Java client for RuneScape 3 or OldSchool and you are experiencing problems such as the game crashing without any errors or running slowly, or if you just want to give your client a bit of an overall performance boost, we can edit the info.plist file to help with all of this.
1) Open the terminal: Applications>Utilities>Terminal
2) Type in the following command (This command assumes that the official RuneScape client is located in your Applications folder):
/Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit /Applications/RuneScape.app/Contents/Info.plist &
This will open the file containing all the Java settings for the client.
3) Scroll to the bottom of the file and you should see something like this:
< key >VMOptions.ppc< / key >
< string >-Xmx256m< / string >
< key >VMOptions.i386
< string -Xmx256m< / string >
< key >VMOptions.x86_64< / key >
< string >-Xmx256m< / string >
4) Locate the '
-Xmx256m
' parameter and replace it with
Xmx512m
5) Save the file and restart the client.
You should notice that performance should have increased. If it didn't then please continue to read other topics in this thread or create a thread of your own!
