An awesome read to start the morning! I'd like to offer my feedback regarding the shields. I'd also like to propose a re-work.
In its original state, the Spectral Spirit Shield holds little to no relevance for its rarity. This is heavily outclassed by the Dragonfire Shield's defences and strength bonus. It is also dangerously similar to the Crystal Shield, which is a free quest item.
I'd like to suggest an additional (small) prayer bonus to the Spectral Spirit Shield. This will combat the relevance issue.

-Divine Spirit Shield re-work:
This is a great proposal. I am okay with the original release, but the re-work is a fair. I believe the removal the prayer drain is optional. It should be noted that 50% of the negated damage is applied to prayer. This isn't a big deal.[/b]

-Elysian Spirit Shield:
*EDIT*: I apologize for misreading this. I agree the Elysian should be kept in its original state. This item was never over powerful and a great addition to the game.
I want to reemphasize my comment on the reworked divine. A prayer drain is optional. The 10% damage rework is suitable as is. Remember, it is 50% of negated damage not 50% of the full damage that is drained.


-New Items:
I see you will be doing a Q&A on this. Good luck and have fun.

-Spectral Spirit Shield:
This I brought up above. This item feels irrelevant due to it being outclassed by lower tier shields. I suggest adding an additional Prayer Bonus to the shield.

This is a 50/50. In its original state the shield was never really over powerful. I believe the 2 re-works should be polled TOGETHER. My logic behind this is as followed. If the Divine is voted in as its original form and the Elysian is voted for re-work, we've just devalued the Elysian for no reason!

Did you even read the devblog? The new divine is not a compromise it's just buffed instead of nerfed.

The spectral shield has +30 magic defence, +20 more than the Dragonfire shield. The Spectral would be incredibly useful as a shield for use against magic damage (it would be incredible for Armadyl and was often used over Divine/Elysian back in pre-EoC).

The crystal shield would still hold the title of the highest range defence shield in the game with +80. This is 13 more than even the Divine/Elysian.

We didn't propose a rework of the Elysian, it has always been a 70% chance of a 25% damage reduction. The 17.5% mentioned later on in the blog is what the Elysian's damage reduction averages out to.

As for your comment on prayer bonus, good point. I did forget to include that all of the shields hold a +3 prayer bonus in the blog, I've now updated this. Thanks for the feedback! @JagexRonan

Apologies. I'll re-read and adjust my comments on Elysian. I'd like to know how you feel about my comment on divine. Thanks, this feels a lot better seeing the Spectral hold a prayer bonus.

I will add in a comment about the full removal of prayer drain. I do find that a bit over board, but the 10% damage reduction is a great change.

We may be reworking this based on the feedback. The goal with the change was to leave the Divine as the dominant shield (as it is the rarest) but reduce the over-the-top nature of the damage reduction.

Lowering the damage reduction to 20% leaves it sitting just above the Elysian, but if we had left the prayer drain effect it would have definitely have been a worse shield than the Elysian.

So, while the change would balance the shield in a more measurable way it also leaves it in a position where it is basically a slightly better Elysian. Many players would rather see the shield be a trade-off between big damage reduction requiring more prayer potions and mid-level damage reduction without any extra prayer potions required.


As an alternative... How does a chance of increased damage reduction that, when it takes effect, drains your prayer at the same rate as before sound? @JagexRonan

Just to point out the wilderness bosses are far from dead. We've collected stats to determine how popular they are and in 3 days alone, Callisto was killed over 8000 times. -----

If the shields are voted NO, everything the team has worked on regarding this update will have been wasted. The Corporeal Beast will have absolutely no reason to be in game without any player value. I would personally pack my bags and leave this game if the poll system is what kills this update. I've made a point to Ash and Dan that this needs to stop, and they have somewhat agreed. I draw the line at this update. This must pass. Or I will move on. I guarantee I would not be the last.
