Here's my take on the situation.

I was originally turning to wc for money, however the bot infestation had ultimately made it a very unreliable method as there were a multitude of bots to compete with at every yew tree. I needed a new method, i decided to venture into the hunting business. I didn't realize how bad the botting situation is until i started to high-score some of the hunter bots i encountered. Not only were most of them 90+ hunter, but there were dozens of 99s that were in the range of 15m+ xp, some even on the front page. I wrote their names down curious to see if they would eventually get banned. My face lit up when i saw the dev vlog, i immediately opened up my notepad with the names, one by one i entered their names expecting "no player found". When i reached the bottom of my list, i realized not a single one of those players were banned, but instead are now in the 18m+ xp range, meaning they've been botting for over a month and have managed to squeeze through the cracks.

As a legitimate player since 2004, it saddens to me see this happening to this amazing game and the unique opportunity jagex has provided us with. My personal achievements are worth so much less knowing some people above me on the high-scores have put significantly less effort than me, and quite frankly it hinders my playing experience and makes it very difficult to stay motivated, or even log in every day.

I do urge anybody that happens to read this to please never consider botting, don't let your mind venture in the dark realm. We are all blessed to have the opportunity to go back in time and relive our gaming experience on runescape, only to find there's people out there tainting it. Ultimately we play games to have fun, and enjoy them, bots take away both of those values not only from the individual themselves, but from the surrounding community as well.

TLDR: Bots =bad =me sad

Awesome! It's really really nice to see JaGeX putting effort towards saving the integrity of the game. It's really frustrating to know that all my hard work, and ALL those lobsters I fished to get 76 means nothing because sharks tanked at about 300ea raw. It's getting ridiculous and it really is reassuring to see something being done. One question I have though is, when/where are these bot busting events? I would love to attend but I'm not entirely sure where to find the schedule.

Country Pony, most of the bots are not playing for the sake of playing. They are doing it to make real money in the real world. Low-life insecure players who think their self-esteem is some how connected to an online game don't want to take the time to earn money by actually playing RS. Therefore they go to online sites that sell RS gold to players for real pounds, dollars, euros or whatever. Idk how much you have to pay to get say 1 mil, but silly spoiled people are willing to pay real cash to get RS gpees.
Gold sellers can set up hundreds of computers (cheap comps btw) and run programs with just a few people supervising the operation. Idk but maybe they even know how to multi-log w/out be caught. Probably 95% of the bots in game are there to make a real life profit.

Good post. I mean, disheartening, but better to have an accurate view of what's actually being allowed to happen than continue to listen to Jagex's propaganda and feel warm and fuzzy about them really getting something done.

The story hasn't changed in all the years I've been playing. Mod Reach, actions speak louder than words.

My total level has stalled out this past month just below 1K, because I just can't bring myself to log on. And I'm just one example among many to show how discouraging this is to honest players.

There are thousands of fletching and alching bots at Pest Control due to the fact you don't get randoms there, There's also an insane amount of bots in the Catherby general area doing Crafting (flax), Woodcutting (Yews, Magics) and Fishing (Lobsters), not to mention Red Chins are plagues with bots at all times of the day...

The majority of players returned for nostalgia and to play a game they loved again back when it was in it's prime, including myself, I currently only play because I enjoy playing, not for competition, not for ranks, just doing stuff i find fun which serves no purpose in EoCScape (Mining and Smithing, Fletching arrows, and training a tank ranger slowly but surely) So if the fun is taken out of the game and it takes too long to ban bots then I just wont have any motivation to play :|

I report every bot I come across, but like someone said earlier there are hunter bots that are beyond 99 now that heven't been banned yet, how can they survive for so long?

Hope to see a lot more done soon! :)

Edit: Just checked the Mining highscores, up around the 5K rank mark there's quite a few bots sitting there.
They say it's not the children it's the parent thats the problem
but if we teach the children how to parent that's the problem solved then!

You guys should check out barrows.. people also alch there due to no randoms. Also check the barrows skeleton area, I have seen accounts there with salve amulet and bones to peaches spell be on for a LOT of time. I have seen a particular player be on over 24 hours (I log on day 1 at around 3PM see the player, look up on HS and has 'x' xp, the next day at around the same time I see him again and look up him.. same xp amount, what the hell..?). This player does this regularly, it is hard for me to believe that he is a legit player considering they are better xp methods out there (provided you are legit, of course).

Also, it would be nice if you guys would notify us of accounts getting banned/muted thanks to our efforts (reporting). You don't need to tell us any names, just saying ''x' amount of players have been dealt with thanks to your efforts, thanks!' would suffice to makes us feel that it is worth our time to report possible rule breakers.
