GE Tax & Item Sinks
Fundamentally this is a good idea although this blog does not put this across. I understand this would have a hard time passing a poll but another unpolled change is not good news. The trust keeping the game together is eroding each time this happens. You need to trust the poll system again.

Bank Spaces
As someone who is on the edge of bank spaces a lot I think a little more bank space is nice, although it's easy to keep under 800. There is so much clutter in all our banks we could sell if we needed space.
However the idea of buying these spaces is ridiculous! This does not feel old school and is unnecessary when you're already looking at adding a tax to the GE. I would not be surprised if you're just using this as a testing ground to see how much players would spend to expand a bank in order to introduce bank space microtransactions.
I hope this is not the case! Either give all players the expansion or add a fun way of unlocking it. For example a quest where you solve a bank robbery or help a bank increase their security.

Golden Sink
This is an old idea, and pretty good. Would the condensed gold bars be used in anything else? Personally I think it could be fun to create them with lots of gold bars and some kind of workshop like creating elemental and mind bars.
RIP Forums :(
Finally we have signatures in the surprise forum update. I'm Lewis, I play Old School & I've been playing since 2005.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems a little unclear what items are being taxed under the 2% tax. Is it all items or just the specific items listed? It seems more clear that the items being bought and destroyed are just the listed items:

Spectral and Arcane Shields
Nightmare Staff and Orbs
Twisted Bow, Elder Maul, Kodai Insignia, Dinh's Bulwark, Prayer Reward Scrolls
God Swords, Armadyl Armour, Bandos Armour, Saradomin Sword, Zamorakian Spear
Abyssal Bludgeon
Kraken Tentacle, Trident
Dark Bow
Smoke Battlestaff, Occult Necklace
Toxic Blowpipe

Anyways, the idea that "This coffer would be used to fund the purchase of specific items that's chosen by us and based on the estimated quantity of the item entering the game per day and the amount we'd like it reduced." does worry me. This seems like you're just working to fix the prices at some certain determined level. While I fully believe there needs to be a way for items to leave the game so that items maintain some value, I'd want to understand this more. A team at Jagex determining the price range items should be at just doesn't feel right.

It also seems strange to me that we're focusing on inflation when the general economy has been deflating. General price levels have been falling, not increasing, so it feels to me that an item sink is more necessary than a GP sink. But perhaps the GP sink is in preparation for upcoming updates that will add more GP to the economy that will need to be dealt with.

Finally, I would love to see treasure trail items and various slayer/boss uniques removed from the game. There are simply too many of the items in the game and many of them aren't even worth alching.

Just some thoughts to consider.

Cheers!

Great ideas, this will help the economy to stay healthy for years to come.
Don't forget to add more items to the buy list.
Don't be discouraged by negative feedback, people will always have difficulties with change.

People have been requesting a G.E. tax for years. So what do you do? Wait until the game is inflated to hell, then hire an economist to tell us what we've been telling you for ages. Hope it was worth it.

Jagex ruins the death mechanic and then wonders why equipment isn't leaving the game. Let's just artificially remove them from circulation using the Grand Exchange. Figure something else out, please.

Duel Arena staking is going to be capped at 10m. I can't wait for all these new scams that will pop up where middlemen are now involved in staking. Or people "duel" in the wildy with cash stacks. Well done jagex on generating new ways to scam players.

Edit: Oh, and regardless of my personal feelings on these. Not one of these should be implemented unpolled. G.E. shouldn't have been introduced into oldschool without a tax in the first place.
Don't forget – RuneScape members get TWO free spins a day instead of the usual one!

This must be polled. I'm getting trade limit vibes back in the day which was forcibly implemented and cascaded into worse decision which essentially ruined osrs.

I really don't like developers having control over the economy. I understand the sinks and they need to be implemented but to control the flow of items is not a free market. Why would we as players want increased prices regardless? Seems like you're trying to save the value of bonds which is not your job, its the markets job. Make content harder? Make it less accessible and it will do what you're trying to achieve without you having the final say.

Also, why wouldn't sellers just force the tax onto players? Hey you want my item? get ready to pay 2% more for it since I had to as well. It will basically change nothing except make the average players experience worse.

Personally i hate the tax idea and i hate the fact devs are picking and choosing which items they want to be valuable. Instead, consider expanding on the expanding bank idea. Maybe implement something similar to nightmare zone to "upgrade" items with cash or copies of itself

Could we add an item sink to TTrail items too? Most are currently worthless compared to their normal counterparts. Perhaps something similar to the literal gold sink? One way could be to sacrifice 100x of a ttrail item to make a large display of it in our POH. Or perhaps something similar to how RS3 sinks them (fortunate components for alchemical hydrix)?

I suggest being a bit more aggressive with items included, extend it to dragon items, barrows, even some common items.

I HIGHLY suggest adding alchables to this system as well. Many alchables can be bought from the GE for under alch price, simply because alching thousands of things is annoying, this could be used as a secondary gold sink, you're removing alchables from the game for slightly less than their alch value, over time this could have a significant impact.

However, in-person trades are not taxed, and I think that is a great way to do it, bringing back a bit of the old school player to player market. HOWEVER, I do think the trade system should be given an update, because otherwise this is going to result in the support team getting swamped with an uptick in scamming reports. A very simply suggestion I have would to simply add a small countdown timer before you can accept a trade that is initiated when an item is removed from either side of the trade window. Say I put an item up, then swap it for an item that looks the same, the other player is given a 5 second countdown before they can accept the trade.
Also, a double confirmation screen when a trade is about to be completed with a significant value imbalance, say 1m+ value difference. (This might need a toggle option though, because for example, people sometimes like to trade around a single D Warhammer for specs when bossing etc, and a third window could be annoying).

Fundamentally taking money away from players for no gain in return just feels bad. (Yes I know it will help the economy, but no, your average player will not understand that.)

If an item and money sink is to be implemented, it should be done in a way akin to invention in RS3. Just without all the rng. Because rng when throwing money into a melter ALSO feels bad.

How it should be done is as follows:

New skill, (Generates hype of new content for game), is basically invention but not terrible in almost every way. (No rng on crafting upgrades, no random components when breaking down items, no need for useless collection skill *cough divination cough*), no tediousness of only having one place to use the skill, (invention workshop), no overly complicated crafting/leveling system that requires a 40 minute youtube video to understand whats going on.

What it SHOULD do:

Allow players of all levels to have a progression system that helps with ALL skills. Every item broken down should have at least two separate uses for it.

A few examples:
- Breaking down a rune plate body will give 40 hard metal components. Black armor would give 10. (Common items would share components because they are easily gained.) Hard components would be used to craft upgrades for various skills like smithing, mining, defence etc. (Like adding a hardened tip to your pickaxe to give you a 10% chance to double mine an ore up to X ore based on pickaxe level.)
- Breaking down higher level armors like barrows, bandos, etc. would give components respective to their armors, and would be used to either craft upgraded versions of those armors, or be used for various other things. (Break down arma peices to make silverhawk boots. Make the boots have a charge system that needs arma components to charge.) (Barrows could be broken down and reshaped into a new franken stein set of armor with a new effect, or the barrows amy from rs3.)

Wow this is going to be the first time that I vote.

Instead of focusing on real issues, Jagex is trying to fix features that aren't broken. Wildy update repeated?

You add a tax, we will stop using the GE.

You created the 250m untraceable crystal crown, with no stats... Purely cosmetic. That's the way to go, your golden sink is almost the stupidest item you could come out with.

Introduce more 250m untradeable gear if you want a money sink.

You aren't actually tackling the gold sellers problem.
You aren't actually tackling the bond loan scammers issue.
You aren't actually tackling the in game gambling bots scam.
You aren't actually caring for the community, the grand exchange tax adds no value to the game.
When you actually care, send a Jmod to world 1 and 2 and perm mute the scammers, ban the bots, and stop wasting Dev time on stupid updates.

You want civilians to gate the government more, act more like them and tax us.
This obviously isn't a feature that's going to stop the bots, they can go to the general store and sell 100k stacks at the minimum price.
They will still make the same amount of gold they currently make.
They will still bot.
They will not pay your tax.
They will continue to sell gold on every world at the GE and in lumby.

Why waste so much Dev time on useless updates?
Just do your Mod work and create a system to prevent the bots from operating.

You can stop an autotyper from being abused x10 messages in the last 60 seconds.

But that's not your goal...

We have been thru the trading posts, now we have the GE.

You want to get rid of it, okay. You want to tax actual players, of course.

You think that will help anyone? No.

Will the bots continue to bot? Of course.

Will the bots be taxed? No.

Can the bots still sell 100k stacks of ores and runes for tokkuls? Yes.

Can the bots still sell 100k stacks of any item to the general store for minimum gold?
Technically no, because you already editted half the items in the game to be worth 0 gold to the general store.
Did that stop the bots tho? No

Are you going to stop the bots?
While anyone that sees them repeat the same message 100 times every time they logon, we may be able to recognize the bots... But the scammers use new methods to beg and deprive players out of their own gold to fund someone else's bond.

But the fact of the matter, these bond loan scammers have gold in their banks. Yet they just want to use autotypers to scam free players, while they still have membership running. Just unequip all items and ask for a loan or a free 1m. Then deny any scammer allegations, but still have the nerve to flash 12m in go before logging. (Example that recently occured)

You want to fix the GE? Fix the posion (p) posion plus (p+) poison plus plus(p++) scams, as they still go on til this day. Fix the overpriced items that occur all over the place, because they are traded often enough to regulate the price.

Then tell us about every item you fix, so it's known that these scammers won't have that route available to them anymore.

Start there, proceed with caution. Fix the bot issue. Don't break another feature of the game.

If you want a riot, you can have one. But that doesn't stop the bots.... Only Arengeesus can save us now.
