I wish the condensed gold item was literally made of gold bars. There's a lot of those around.
Are the dwarves going to get one of those penny-squashing machines? It could be a nostalgic touch.

I don't think taxing is a good idea. Yes, the economy is bad, but RS3s economy was worse and they fixed it by adding a new skill (invention) to the game. I don't think asking real world economists for advice on developing a game is smart.

First of all, of course they are just going to say tax players, they don't know anything about the game. You need creative minds that can handle the economy with a creative spin to the game. Just outright taxing people just feels off.

It already feels like real life class systems coming into Runescape, tax all players, only the upper class can afford a 500m bank space increase, only the upper class can afford XYZ... Now with taxes in place it just feels weird, I don't know.

Unpopular opinion but I think there should be an in game addition to impact the economy, not real world economists.

Also the main accounts that need bank space are ironmen. How is an ironman going to afford 500m bank space. I'm 11 days 19 hours playtime into my group ironman and I've already hit 800 spaces and need to clear room.

Ok so all those items are great, can we add a sink to items such as
All TOB items
ALL high level slayer item uniques that are 85+
Wilderness boss uniques
All DK rings
All zenyte jewelry as well

These are just a few off the top of my head I’m sure there’s many others that can be put on this list too.
Fully agree with the item sink though I think it will benefit the game in the long run for all non iron players

So with the 2% tax, you are essentially eliminating "flipping" on the GE exchange for a significant portion of items.

10 Mil GP at a 2% tax = 200k taxed

most items in the 10 Mil GP range, you are making significantly less than 200k per item flipped.

A lot of items that are flipped are in the range of less than 20Mil GP, unless you are extremely wealthy, and even then, flippers who are extremely wealthy still do their rounds in this price range.

The margins do not add up and by taxing 2%, you are taking away a fundamental part of the game for many players.

Can anyone explain to me how this would not impact flipping?

Love the spirit of this update! While certainly funny, I think the gold sink is a swing and a miss, and something like the GP Well that others have proposed in the past would be a better option, both in terms of community building and gold removed from the economy. A public highscore system of who has donated/wasted how much would generate far more gold removed from the game than a POH item that most people will never see.

I agree with Phault on these items:

...alongside other CoX items such as the twisted buckler and DHCB. However, I think the middle drop table at CoX (Dinh's, Ancestral, and D Claws) is fine where it is, not sure why Dinh's was singled out.

To those complaining about this not being polled: The Grand Exchange itself passed by only 1.3% over the threshold. And an integrity poll that will hurt people's income would almost certainly not pass, even though it'll make a better game. That's a bigger issue for a different time, but people tend to not know what's best for them until they have it.

A 2% tax will certainly hurt small time flipping, but it could also invigorate the economy of items that sell at high alch price. And I think most big time flippers aim for ROI's in the double digits, so while 2% hurts, it won't kill the activity. Just like the brokerage fees of 1-2% IRL haven't killed the stock market.

I support all of ideas proposed! I've been an active participant in trading in the osrs economy and think this would be great! Although my trading is generally swing trading where its guessing what items will increase in value rather than volume based flipping which would likely take a hit in terms of potential returns.

One thing I want to make sure gets implemented as part of these changes is a clear or automated procedure to be transparent about what items are being removed from the game. Any fundamental subsidization in any economy only works if every economic participant is aware of and in some way democratically decides what a good reason is for deciding to subsidize that commodity or scarce good. By that I mean, we can all agree that farmers in real life should be subsidized for macro-trends because food supply depends on farmland remaining arable. We can all agree on that. However, we cannot all agree on subsidizing guns in real life in the same way the OSRS community would be wary of potentially bottable items being favored for item deletion.

Maybe start pre-recording the buying and have some good looking assets for the coffer and posting these videos to the youtube channel. The bot busting streams have always been great, and it would just be cool to see big numbers of expensive items getting deleted. Maybe the items have to get put in a toilet or thrown in a fire to be deleted. Would be a cool way to be transparent and keep in touch as a mod team that cares about what we care about: the health of the game!
