While reading the blog, I understand there is a desire to higher tier weaponry instead of it all being capped at 75 attack/magic/ranged. We have already seen this being implemented with newer updates like the ferocious gloves. I think this is a good thing, and should be continued in future updates. But I don’t think that existing content should be altered in such a way, that a large portion of the player base cannot access it anymore.
The blog states that re-assessing the item tiers should help to ‘better reflect the power of the item’. If the goal here is purely to distinguish the item’s power, why not keep the 75 attack requirement and add an additional strength level requirement of varying tiers (like proposed to for instance the new Warhammer classification). This way, one can still distinguish the item’s tier by their strength level, while having much less impact on special account builds (since they are mainly limited in attack/defense).
Also I fully agree with the concerns around ‘nerfing’ items that have existed in the game for many years, like the blowpipe and d’hide. However since there has already been said a lot about it, I will not go further in on it.
I think OSRS already has done a great job if it comes to adding more diversity to training methods and weapons. Think of dragonbane weaponry, the twisted bow, variety in weaknesses of bosses, special mechanics requiring special items (like spectral for cerb, zamorakian spear for corp, etc) and armour with specific uses like inquisitor’s. Continue on that track, but don’t nerf old content because you want to introduce new items into the game!
Please be careful, listen to the community and keep OSRS the great game that it is.
