Sure, buying items can be deemed as unfair but you need to remember not all people buying bonds are spoiled children using their parents credit card. There are many players now days who are out of school and are working full time, who therefor don't have the time to grind endlessly. It allows these players to take some shortcuts and achieve goals which they would otherwise be unable to achieve.
I know several people who play MTG.
Some of them don't really have time to build decks. They play, but due to lacking time to really think about and refine an idea.
However, they do have money. Why can't they buy a little certificate from WotC that will make their card better in some way? That would allow them to put less time and effort into the game but still compete.
Of course, that's what it's about, coming up with the best possible deck to win, just like RS is about the grind to get to your goals.
But still, if it is acceptable to be able to get around restrictions by throwing money at it, why not?
