I'll just let the old rules speak for themselves.

==================
The Old Rules on Real-World Trading
==================

What is real-world trading ?

Real-world trading is the term used for the real-world purchase of services with the intention of advancing your Jagex character. This includes, but is not limited to: purchasing gold or items in Runescape, buying a Runescape account as well as paying someone to increase your account** experience(XP) in a skill or for them to complete quests and activates on your behalf.

Why do we have this rule ?

We have this rule for two reasons:

1. We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in Runescape. If we let players start doing this, it devalues Runescape for others. We feel your status in real-life shouldn't affect your ability to be successful in Runescape.

2. Often when players sell items in Runescape for real cash, the items are actually stolen. When a player purchases a Runescape account, there is a high probability that the account may have been stolen. Stolen accounts will always be returned to the original owner.

==================

The fact that 1. was removed from the current rules speaks a great deal about how the game has changed.

When I first read the rules seven years ago; I had a feeling real world trading was not against the rules because Jagex didn't want competition, they just wanted a fair game for everyone. And I respected Jagex greatly for that.

Please remember you roots.

No to bonds. Yes to banning inter-game swapping.

No, no, no. Please don't even poll this garbage. The oldschool team has done an amazing job with the game so far, and this would completely devalue all achievements in a way, just like rs3 has. Oh you want 99 crafting? Just buy a few bonds? This was not how the game was meant to be and I hope the osrs team and all the players realise this. About the gold swapping, there is NO risk if you're somewhat smart about it. Many streamers do it, and many people ranked in fc's do it. Of course if you join a goldswapping fc with 3 members and 1 is a recruit, you're bound to get scammed.

Please don't ruin the game, because it's honestly perfect at the moment. If you need more money (Which jagex clearly does not) adding something that will CANCEL SUBSCRIPTIONS to the game is not logical at all.

Could you have a system where bonds in rs3 are linked to oldschool where a player on rs3 sells a bond to the ge and that bond can be bought by a player on oldschool for the ge price of what is on rs3. *´¨)¸.*´ Kilot ~ Failed RuneScape player.

Then why doesn't Jagex perm ban everyone who has paid them for TH keys, Solomon items, or bonds?

In every case, you pay real money to get an in game item.

Is this not the definition of RWT?

Just because Jagex changed the rules to allow it doesn't mean it's not the same thing.

If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...and the UN declares it a war crime to call it a duck...doesn't mean it turns into a mouse.

If you exchange cash for in game items, it doesn't matter how the rules are changed to allow it, you are still real world trading, just legally.

Conspiracy Theory:

Jagex regrets adding OSRS, and they're trying to draw players back to RS3. Their Legacy attempt failed, Artisan failed and now they're trying to saturate OSRS with microtransactions!

Because let's face it, how are we better than RS3 if we have microtransactions?

In a perfect (runescape) world there wouldn't have to be a choice between micro-transactions and these RWTers.

Effectively giving people a way to exchange irl money for gp might dramatically reduce the amount of illegal RWTing that is going on, but the effect is the same: player's will be buying an advantage in the game based on their irl status/wealth.

I don't think there is much real benefit in making the exchanges legal. Sure you might not get scammed, but it devalues the hard work that players put into the game when some kid with wealthy parents can buy him a bunch of bonds which he trades for gp.

I'm sure there are more systems/improvements that can be made to combat RWTing rather than beating them by adding a competitive market.

Furthermore, I think exchanges between oldschool/rs3 should be stopped. Player's should not be able to carry over what they have on rs3 to have an advantage on oldschool. The two games when released were decided on (by Jagex I guess) to be separate. Accounts/stats were not carried over and neither should wealth.
