I definitely echo what some others are saying in that I really don't like the idea of dethroning the firecape as BIS, it's an iconic piece of armor and nostalgia is most of the reason I play to begin with. Furthermore it's already good, I think more focus could be added on finding actual weak spots in armor and improving those rather than dethroning already good content.
On the other hand, I really like the idea of a PvM challenge with the TzHaar theme, but would be as challenging to 20 somethings as Jad was when most of us were 12.
I like the idea a couple other people threw out about it being locked behind a grand-master quest leading up to the inferno as its climax; maybe a grand-master quest you need a firecape to start? So while it's extremely challenging and requires you complete the fight caves you don't have to go through the tedious grind of getting a firecape for every single attempt? If you can complete an extremely difficult PvM challenge-on-steroids you'll probably find Jad pretty easy, so all it is is a grind prerequisite. Of course that grind prerequisite could definitely make it more thrilling for some people, as you'd probably have more attachment to not screwing up, and might be more likely to panic. But personally I'd just find it tedious.
As for the reward, I don't know personally what the best direction there would be. On a personal note though I will say it annoys me endlessly that if you want to use a nondegradable melee helmet for something other then Slayer tasks your best option is a nezzy... I loathe that thing, and it's a 50k helmet. Maybe a BIS melee helm? Like some kind of infernal full helm/crown? (Overpowering serpentine in str bonus, as serpentine has venom as a distinct strategic advantage.)
That last bit is strictly me, and I'm sure others could provide far better ideas there.
